Hi
I asked Tapper if he would create an Alaska chapter so Vtx riders up here could communicate regarding rides, sale of equipment, modifications, and any other bike related information. Here it is. If you ride up here check in and meet your fellow Alaskan Vtx riders. I don't think rules are necessary except to be friendly and courteous.
ride on!

Happy Holidays.

I'm in Texas right now but interviewing for a job in Kenai, AK. Any VTX riders close? How many months a year can you ride??? What is the riding like up there? What else can you tell me?

Hi I hope you get the job. The riding is from about the middle of May to the end of October depending on where you live. The Kenai area is warrmer than Anchorage and so they may have an extra 2 weeks. The best fishing in the world is on the kenai river and off the coast of the kenai penninsula. Kenai is aout 2&1/2 hours by road to Achorage which is the only large city in Alaska (280k). It is beautiful, has great hunting , fishing and hiking. People are frendly. Riding is very good but there are not that many roads compared to texas.
The weather is warmer than Chicago but colder than the new england states. Bring a woman.

I don't know about being the only vtxer but there is a very active chapter of abate down in Kenai. They put on riding clinics sponser rides and such. I have included the link to their website as it is very informative. http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/3701/
If you come out let us know so we can go riding or lend you a hand.

Thanks for the info,

I really appreciate it. It does sound like Kenai is really being away from a city so I need to see. I am sure I will have more quesitons. How far does money go up there??? Is a salary of 90-100 decient or good living up there?

I'll let you know what happens.

I'm going on a long ride this Sunday and I will think of you guys!!! The shorter riding season does not bother me much as long as I have a place to work on the bike. I have been mainly rideing and bolting on things but I want to get more into it.

Thanks.

You are right about Kenai being away from a city. It is a small town of maybe 3 or 4k and then there is Soldotna which is about the same and then a little farther down the road is Homer which is kinda like a college town without the college. It is rural.
You can live like a sultan on 100k here. You should come up and check it out.
I am cleaning my bikes and working on them, riding is done for the year and snow is everywhere. You should ask akjason about Kenai and alaska; he grew up here . I 've only been here since 1986. He lives up in Fairbanks. I 'll think of you guys riding in the sun while I am sitting in my garage.

Appreciate the info. I am waiting for the business to set the date and make the travel arrangements for the next interview.

I did not mean to rub it in about the ride. I love the ride and the bikers, but it is also fund cleaning and working on the bike. So we both win.

As for the bringing a woman idea, well that has not worked for me so far. :?

I met and was in love with this wonderful woman about 4 years ago, we got married, she brought her children and then like her male friends. So it didn't work.

So for now I work on the bike, ride and have freinds.

Well that's not perfect but not the worst either. My problem was I was really in love with her, so.... She wanted to get back together but said she would never give up her men. So I gave her up. Guess I'm too old fashion when it comes to marriage. anyways.

Happy Holidays.
