I'm starting a new thread just because I can. My question is, will this be a private chat room of sorts for three of us to hang out, or are there more Alaskan riders coming out of the woodwork???

My poor bike is sitting under the cover, waiting for my remodelling proejct to slow down so I can roll it into the trailer for it's long winter nap. I took a ride Sunday with my oldest boy, hit patches of ice twice in some shady spots. That was a real pucker moment. Of course, the slush on the sides of the road should have been a clue. It's warmer now but I've had my fill for the season.

I sent out invites to the 8 or 9 alaska riders I saw by looking at the membership info I haven't looked at them all. I thought I would also post a notice at alaska leather which has a bulletion board and maybe one at the local honda dealer. I will post a photo of my ride as soon as I can get my son to show how to get the photos on the computer and on to the message. I'll also ask the dealer how many vtxs he has sold and if he would mind me contacting them. I figure their are about 25 in alaska. There is a bike fundraiser for abate on the 16th maybe I'll see some vtxs there. it may take some time for the word to spread but I figure by next summer there should be enough of us for a ride. heck we have all winter to add to our numbers!
The weather here must be about 8 degrees warmer. it won't be long before the ice in the shadows will shut me down as well.

Maybe I'll bring a little blurb to the local honda dealer when I go there this week to check out the bikes. I don't know if he has a corkboard there or not, but just in case.

Tough pickings, not very many VTX's sold up here!

The guy I spoke with on the phone said he has an 1800C left, which he's trying to sell for $8,800. Not bad for Fairbanks prices.

Hey guys, I was just feeling sorry for myself because it has been raining since Friday continuously and I can't ride. Well, I could but it would be somewhat uncomfortable. Now I don't feel so bad. Maybe yall can get some more riding time before the roads get too bad. :mcrider:
Y'all have some beautiful country up there. I have never been to Alaska but would really love to. My dad was just talking the other day about taking a scooter ride to Alaska. It very well may happen next summer. :D
Welcome to the board. You'll find lots of useful information on the tech board and some good people to chat with.
Stay Warm,
Mark.

Hey, nice paint job on the tank! Definately post some better pictures when you get them.

I can feel the chill in the air just looking at the last shot there. I can smell the highbush cranberries too, or at least I imagine I can. That smell always reminds me of fall.

The premiere of the follow-on event - Alaskaradical 2005! Hmm, the name needs some work. Ride from Coloradical to Alaska and back. Maybe complete the trip with a ride down Rte. 1 the entire way, to a big party hosted by Coyote and friends.

And the four guys on this board who are retired or can take 2 months off will be there!

I rode down to end of Eagle River Road with my son on the back. He just kept saying go faster. It was about a 70 mile ride from my house and back. I am in for the first Alaskaradical.
I am going to try to get my Vace and Hines Bigshots on this week along with an HPP unit. I was going with a power commander until I realized there isn't a dyno unit up here. This winter I'm going to try to put progressive shocks on and a triple tree and risers if my kids and uncle sam leave me any extra cash.
Snow machines will probably be the topic here in a few weeks but I'm hoping for just a few weeks more of riding.

$8800 for an 1800? what a deal!

Well, let me fill some white space for you guys...I am neither a VTX rider nor an Alaskan...but I ride with the VTX group here in Mass becaues my brother is the state coordinator....and I used to live in Alaska. It's where I had my first motorcycle! A 250-cc dirt bike, as a matter of fact!

My ride has changed quite a bit, but I admit to many day dreams about how nice it would be to go to Alaska and ride. Are there places to rent bikes? I actually wouldn't mind taking the ferry from Prince Rupert to Skagway and then riding, wouldn't that be sweet!!!

If only it weren't for the damn kids and that job! Someday, though....

Just figured I'd say hi....hope you guys are staying warm!

w-w-w-w-w-warm? W-w-w-w-w-what's t-t-t-t-that?

I haven't heard of a place that rents bike anywhere in Alaska. Perhaps in Anchorage, if any place. Many Harley dealers rent bikes. I haven't taken the time to stop in at either AK Harley dealer to see if they rent tho.

I figure when it's really freaking cold out I'm going to trailer my bike down to the bank where the temperature sign is, suit up and ride out for a picture. My goal is colder than -40, though with all this darn warming I don't know if we'll see it this year!

I had my bike dynoed there and I thought they did a good Job. (92.7 hp 105.8 torque. My bike ran alot better after it was dynoed its hp actually went down about .5 but it was smoother, faster, and its gas milage went way up. What mods does your bike have other than a PCIII? ther are several threads on the big vtxoa website regarding what to know to get the best results. Let me know when you do it. I'm going to re dyno mine when I get the new proton 4 airbox if it ever gets shipped.

Abouy $175. Make sure your air cleaner is clean and that they dyno it in 4th gear. I didn't clean my airfilter and it may have cost me a couple of hp. If you want you can watch them dyno it on a tv screen while they do it. I down loaded a map from the pc site and it worked ok but just ok. It gave me max hp but it was rough running in certain parts of the power band.
