View Full Version : Thin On The Ground

Spent 2 weeks in San Jose California last year on business. All that sunshine gave me the bug for riding again, so after a break of almost 20 years, came back and bought myself a Bandit 600.

Not the meanest bike in the world, but relatively safe and forgiving to re-learn my riding skills.

Changed the Bandit on Good Friday for a 1300 Retro, never looked back. Been to see the doctor to see if he can cure my addiction to buying chrome - now part way through therapy with some success, but not before I had acquired a backrest, highway bars, lamp bar & spots, drag pipes, Dynojet Stage 1, saddle bag supports etc.

I have found this board to be very interesting and particularly helpful for tips and tricks e.g. rejetting.

Some of the political stuff goes over my head, and the strong Veteren contingent is something I know nothing about, but I guess that's just because of the physical distance between us.

For the UK side, I like to do as many ride-outs as possible. VTX riders appear to be thin on the ground, and I don't go much on riding with HOGs, so I have tended to go up to London for the Ace Cafe events.

I, too, have put the dust covers on for the next few months. I can deal with the wet if properly prepared (and psyched-up for the post-ride clean & polish), but the cold gets to me.

1 hour riding in the wet = 1 hour cleaning & polishing.

1 hour riding in the cold = 1 week warming up.

Look forward to meeting up with anyone in the UK.

Hi there VTX-UK. Glad to see another 'UK' member out there :D

There are a few of us at the mo but hopefully we'll see ever increasing numbers. I'm only up the road in Bristol and I know of a couple of others (whom will hopefully be reading this post at some point) in the South West. Did you get to the big meet at Aust-Bristol last weekend? We had approx 2K bikes. Across the severn Bridges.. cool.

Anyway there are a few of us trying to get something together across the UK. Although in it's infancy it promises to be good. I'll keep you updated with the ways and wherefores.

Until then we might get a few good days before Xmas who knows??

I mean we are ukXriders....

I too got back into biking 12 months ago. I went out and bought a new 600 Hornet, nice but too revvy, I was state side this year and hired a V-Rod and went on a ride out fron Tucson to Tombstone and back in a day, I caught the cruiser bug, I visited a honda dealer in the US and saw a VTX, it was love at first site. I will be purchasing a VTX 1800c in Febuary 05 for my 40th Birthday, the funds are there and the wife has agreed!!! imediatley i want a Slash cut Cobra exhaust and a set of floor boards fitting. If anybody has any contacts or websites to import parts please drop me a line. My e-mail is andymurraygoose@yahoo.co.uk

Only four members, there will be plenty more for these beautiful machines.

Hi Andy

Go to Google.com and type in "VTX 1800" - make sure you also type in the quotation marks.

You'll see so much stuff you will go blind.

I can't earn enough at the moment to keep up with all the VTX stuff I'm buying, about to sell first born...

We all seem to be in the SW, where are you?

Hi Steve & welcome!

I looked at two, side by side in the same shop - one new for 10k, one s/h with 3k on the clock, 1k of accessories, and costing 8k - no brainer really. The 2nd hand one looked as new as the new one!

VTX-UK and all in the UK VTX forum.

Hello all.

Hope all is well with you all.

Just thought I would introduce myself, as you can probably see from my signature my name is Marty, Martin, whatever you like, but, I live in San Jose CA, and I have a VTX1300 Red Retro ( lovely toy !!).
VTX-UK, just reading through the forum's, saw you were over here last year, and thought, well, if any of you are ever over this way, from one fellow countryman to another, give me a shout, maybe we could meet up and have a chat over a beer or something.

Nice to see there is a UK part of the forum.

See ya later..
