I've heard Mobil One is a good oil. Also read that synthetics are good after first 600miles but they must be free of mollys.

Motul 5100 is a full synthetic oil and would work well in your X.

Irish,

I changed my oil on the weekend. I used Valvoline SynPower 10W-50 which I got for around $60 per 5lt. I took the X for a run to Maleny after doing the change and noticed that there is a difference in 'running noise' however the gear change from 1st to 2nd is still noisy (...as is standard for a Honda so I have read). After looking around for a while I found that the correct viscosity Mobil 1 is difficult to get hold of in 5lt jugs so I settled on the Valvoline.

Guys,

Just some follow up on the oil change I did to Valvoline SynPower 10W-50 from a standard non-synth oil. I did notice some minor clutch slippage on 2 occassions soon after changing oil - it no longer occurs. I emailed Valvoline asking whether their oil contained any friction modifiers (apparently friction modifiers will effect wet clutch performance) and their response was as follows...

"The are no friction modifiers included in the Sypower package. You may be witnessing the high sheer properties of a quality 50 grade. The clutch may be having difficulty in breaking through the oil film strength. If this a major concern, go to a 40 grade."

Something for you guys to consider. Anyway the X is running fine now and I will persist with the 10W-50. Will post more info if anything changes.

Cheers.

I've been using Motul for years in different bikes and had no trouble with it. I was warned off Mobil 1 by the guys at the Mobil laboratory due to the friction modifiers. This was a few years ago so it might have changed by now.
