Drywallman and others in the know.

I'm aware we are "suppose" to do a valve adjustment check at 8k miles. Well my beast has been running so darn good and since I didn't know how to do a valve check on our 1800s, how about a garage get together where we can do a bike's valve check (mine would be a good candidate) and thus not worry about some stealer screwing up and/or charging us big time for such.

My bike is now at 15k, so I think I should get busy.

Anytime, anyplace, any help would be highly appreciated.

Riding out here in Tooele, has been great last couple days. A little nippy, but nice and clear out West. :)

Alright when do you want to do this? How about next week end?

Sounds good, looks like we'll be in the 40s (heat wave) this weekend, and that miserable cold I had, has gone the way of the dinsasours.

You name the place and time, drywallman, the sun is shinning out here in Tooele (one of the reasons I moved out here), while in Salt Lake there is a fog bank this morning. I have a two car garage. Unheated, but southern exposure. However, I don't mind at all driving over to your place, no problem at all. Any special tools needed?

Do we need to take the gas tank off? (If so, I might wait until it gets warm again ). After all my bike runs perfect, so I'm going to assume they are OK. :)

OK, There is also a Xer about 3 blocks from me who will probably want to do his also. And yes, the tank has to come off, so does your forward right cover. If your pipes are in the way it has to come off also. Remember I have an R not a C so I'm not sure if you have to remove your pipes. I did not have to remove mine, so I thinking no.
I have heat in my garage (propane) and have the tools needed to do the job. If the weather is in the 40's, that's riding weather. :D :D

Heated garage nice. If you and your other Xer want to do it this weekend let me know the time and place. I'll be there.

Yes, they are talking in the 40s this weekend. I agree, 40s is riding weather. As long as no ice on the road, I'm good to go.

Now they are saying 50s for the weekend. Might just be wearing my vest if this keeps up. :)

Drywallman:

We can do valves any old time.

Yups 50s. http://www.weather.com/activities/recre ... ocid=84119 (http://www.weather.com/activities/recreation/golf/weather/weekend.html?locid=84119)

Perhaps a nice ride would be more appropriate :) :) :) :) :)

Hello guys, can I join the valve party. My name is Mike I live in Herriman. I have had my X since May she is used (2002) but in great shape. I noticed the last couple rides in Oct that I think the valves are making noise. I would really like to learn more about my X. I saw some of your postings the last month and wish I could have made some of the rides.

Herriman is a really nice place. Tom Barberi lives there and Bruce (can't remember his last name) officer of Salt Lake Motorcycle club lives there too.

Welcome aboard.

I think I speak for all, EVERYONE is welcome! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Mike, how many miles on your X, and what kind of oil are you running? Would love to have you join in on the fun. IloveUMan says the weather is going to be nice, I think he would rather ride this weekend. But when we get together we would like to have you there. PM me with you number so I can ad it to the contact list.

Here's a great website, explaining how to do valve check.

http://www.rwmillerandsons.com/Riley/RileysVTXhome.htm

Go to that website and click ENGINE, than go to valve adjustment with diagrams.

The bike has 31000 miles. I have put on about 3000. It has been about 2000 since I changed the oil. I am using the Mobil Red Cap.
