I HAVE SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT AT THE NEW YEAR PARTY

This will be worth your time.. A ride of a life time in 2006.. I am very excited to try and get this going, And I beleive you will be happy to do this as a BIG group ride. This will be a TWO week ride, after the meeting I will be spending lots of time on this, planning gas stops, places to stay on the way, I will posting the route so other VTX'ers will be able to meet up with us on the way to the turn around point. This will probley be the ride of a life time for many of us..Please make it to the New years Party so we can have a Meeting on this.. Thanks for your time

Lets see, I think I've done about four of those.

(on the other hand sometimes I feel like i'm four lifetimes old.) If you have never been on a sojourn, DO it. It's one of those things you'll be telling your grand kids about.

Man have I got the stories Whew!! 8)

I've rode Southern California while I lived out there - too far to go from here.

I've rode a bunch of Arizona and New Mexico but want to see more. I'd like to ride more of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and S.D. I'd also like to go into Northern California and Oregon.

I'd like to do some Canada touring also.

I figure I've got about 25 years to do it all in, then will need a Trike

Think more north!

I'd like to do some Canada touring also.

That would be a good part of it!

Now that I've pretty much given it away..........

Have to brush up on my Innuvik though......tuk tuy uktuk

Skinny,

I am just curious if this is related to a discussion Tomsak and I had regarding a 2+ week trip to Alaska and why it is such a dang secret?

I would also like to plan a ride south at some point ... south of the border. I realize the riding in Mexico can be hazardous but a little planning and knowledge ....

Lake Titicacca? :D

East Coast, we have a possible B&B in East Lime Conn. My Uncle Ed lives there, I'm sure he'd be up for a group of bikers to crash at his place. He was a Dead Head after all, I'm sure he has extra tents and plenty of room at the house. Plus lobsters, Clam chowda to die for! Maple syrup, Vermont Teddy bear factory, Ben&Jerry's factory...... 8)

No Spike that would be the 80's spring break movies you apparently spend too much time watching. :D
I was thinking about riding to Brownsville and stop in Padre then cross at Matamorros and run down the gulf coast to Tampico. It is definitely not a ride for the faint-hearted as travel in Mexico can be dangerous, both on the roads and off. Robbery and kidnapping of gringos has become the crime of choice in parts of Mexico. A little planning and preparation and knowledge of the risks and we should be fine.

I did not know you and Tomsak had dicussed a road trip, Is the old fart going to get a new bike..MEXICO what you do not want you bike anymore..

He and I talked about it late this summer at one the many Doyle's parties. It was actually his idea and I was all for it. I have family in 3 different cities in Alaska.

If this is to Anchorage, I spoke with a guy this past summer that did this trip. His reply was he would never do it again in 2 weeks, more like 4 min.

He said they had actual seat time of 10 hrs per day from Chicago and would take 14 hours from start to stop each day to get it done. 10 hours of driving and 4 hours time eaten up in fuel and food stops. That was as direct as you could go with a chase vehicle carrying plenty of gas as there were many parts of the trip where there simply was to many miles to cover between gas stations. They drove around Alaska for only 2 days in order to make it back in that two week time frame.

I visited a buddy on the base in Anchorage a few years ago, I spent 5 days and that was not enough to see all the wonderful sights. If thats where this trip is planned for, I would maybe fly up and rent a bike once there :D

The bike tour mags I have read say you should plan a minimum of a week just for the Alcan highway and I would think at least 2 or 3 days to get to the Alcan (NW of Edmonton) so even if they are double the expected time on the Alcan and you can push hard and make it to Fairbanks (the north end of the Alcan) in a week, it means an immediate turn around and hard push home. I would say this trip is a minimum of 3 weeks and maybe 4, which is what Tomsak and I were talking about when the idea came up. My Aunt and Uncle rode in for the HD 100th from Fairbanks and it took them 8 and a half days with that big group and several chase cars but I don't think the group pushed hard. I know it was a long enogh trip that they made arrangements to trailer it home from somewhere in the Dakotas.

Lets just talk about it at the party. I drove from Fairbanks back in 1973 and there was 1000 miles of gravel ***** roads. Made it in three days, just pounding it. But from what I see and how the roads look like know 4-5 days couple days there and a ride back. Who has a Job to take a month off WTF. I am not going up to see every snow bank in Alaska. I would think the beauty of the ride up and back would be a great ride, couple days there.. :? Drink some good old rock gut and the saloon  lot of time to talk about it..

I think I have gone as far north as I am going to go. This warm blooded latino does not want anny more cold weather then what he has. However... South of the Border sounds interesting to me!!!

Anyway, we have plenty of time for all of this, but we need to let everyone in, and everyone will not be going to the New Years Party!!!

Arriba Muchachos!!!

Mike and I were talking about taking a little detour on the way to Colorado next year. Over to San Francisco, down the Pacific Coast highway, over to Vegas via Death Valley and over the Grand Canyon (maybe some time for an alien sighting i Roswell, NM) before arriving at Borger for Snakebite's pre Coloradical get together. I'd also like to get a group together and head to Eureka Springs, Arkansas. There is some fantastic riding in that part of the country. The Iron Horse Stables would be a really cool place to stay if we can get in. The book up about a year in advance. There are alot of other motorcycle friendly hotels in the area though. This one just has a built in mechanic, tow service, leather smith, restaurant, liquor store and a big ol' bon fire always roaring. Check it out at http://www.ironhorsestables.com/
