Does anyone know if there is a vtx patch for Kansas? I was looking in the Arkansas posts and they are having Dawg make patches for them. Is anyone interested in a state patch?

You kinda missed out on that a while back. We kicked it around, but due to some alternate views, just decided we would stay a riding club and not get into the whole MCC thing.....But i don't speak for all. I would hope others chimed in and gave thoughts.....

Yep...I'm with Travis on this one. Celebrate riding, celebrate the VTX, but, let's stay away from forming or the perception of forming a motorcycle club. At least not right now. Dawg has some nice stuff though. Of course...your mileage and opinion my vary.

I wouldn't mind getting some Kansas VTX riders patches, but I think we should do something totally different than the rest of the crowd, including the MMCs. Let's all wear eye patches! We can be the KS X-Pirates! C'mon it'll be cool! At least people would know who we are... Or we could just get some group shirts. I kinda like this idea :

OK, I guess that settles that, I probably should have done a search to see if there was any talk about this before I started hanging around. Thanks for the info.

Don't fret deer....Its all good. We had a issue a while back and things got tense and none of us wanted the drama...Just riding free and enjoying the company....

Yep, I agree with Meyer and the others. After reading some of the posts about Kansas and other areas, I don't think I'll be wearing any patches that imply that I belong to a club. Too old to start trouble.

I kinda like the eye patch thing. Maybe even a "peg leg".

Bigmeyer-

His is the quick and dirty on the airbox mod.

Here is what I did to make my airbox: (I apologize if the some of the steps sound juvenile)

1) removed airbox cover and covered the area to cut with masking tape. (i just covered the whole thing)

2) drew my design on the tape to cut out. keep it simple. that plastic cover is thicker thank you think. so the more intricate the design the tougher to cut out

3) used a heavy duty cut off wheel on my dremmel to cut out the design. dremmel makes different cutting bits but i was most comfortable with the wheel.

4) after cutting out the design, i used a file to make sure the edges where i cut were smooth.

5) i wasn't happy with how all the edges turned out. :? it wasn't bad but some of the chrome chipped a little so i retaped the airbox and cut out about 1/4" around the design and lightly sanded the exposed chrome around the design so when i painted it-it would stick better. wiped the dust off after sanding and spray painted it black (the area cut around my design). I used whatever i had in the garage so i am sure you could use any color. i let the paint dry and removed the tape.

6) after doing this i found the airbox mod with my k&n let too much air in the carb. so i used metal screen like you would find on a patio door or storm window, and layered it in a criss cross fasion on the inside of the airbox to restrict the air flow a little more. i just cut a piece of screen big enough to cover the area. layed it on the inside of the aircover. marked where the support fins were located and cut slits in the screen so it would slide down towards the front of the airbox cover.

7) put it all back together and get compliments from your buds.

it is as easy as that.
 NOTE: be sure to wear eye protection of some kind when cutting the airbox cover. that plastic gets hot when you are cutting it and flies everywhere.

i kinda zipped through the directions so feel free to contact me if i can be of any help.

you also may want to do a search of cool runnings posts on the 1300 Riders Board. He has also done a similar mod.

have fun and lets see pictures when you are done.

Thanks Crowe! That will help alot. I will look at it closer and see what I can do....Trying to figure out how to put some risers and a baby ape style handlebar on it without having to change out all the cables, etc. But the breather project is now on the "to do" list.....thanks again, and I will holler if I need help!

Thanks Crowe. I've also been thinking about doing something similar. Any way, in your opinion, to keep the chrome from chipping?

i just taped over the area with masking tape. there was very little chipping at all and the chrome plastic was really just slightly curling up in spots. i am kinda a perfectionist when it comes to making parts for my x and the little imperfections we unacceptable to me.

to answer you question. just tape it and be careful pulling it of. i am sure the type of cutting bit/wheel will impact it also. again mine just had slight imperfections. nothing major.
