Hopefully it wasn't any one from our boards. Has anyone heard about this?

this was some kind of accident where the guy was trying to merge into the hwy and while trying to get ahead of the traffic coming sped up and was hit head on.

Is this it?
Robert Munro, 33, of 408 Legardeur Drive, died Sunday when the motorcycle he was riding slammed into a vehicle that cut in front of him on Bayou Liberty Road west of Slidell, State Police said.
Munro was eastbound on a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle at 3:35 p.m. when an oncoming 1996 GMC sport utility vehicle turned left in front of him at Baldwin Drive, police said.
Munro slammed on his brakes and slid 180 feet before his motorcycle hit the SUV, sending him flying 45 feet into the path of a westbound 2003 BMW that ran over him, police said.
Munro, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene of the crash. The other two drivers were not injured, police said.

Another biker on the north shore died yesterday after being struck by a car making an improper left turn.. The biker, 26y/o Dwayne Ransom of LaCombe, was southbound on North Pontcartrain Street when the car driver turned left at West Spruce. The driver was charged with Improper Turn, not involuntary manslaughter.
Guys and Gals, be careful out there and anticipate the other vehicle. They don't look for us and the police won't fault them to the level that they should care. Makes my blood boil. :x

MCN or Rider mag. I forget which, did a study and its not that they don't see us, it's that they don't perceive us as a threat. The study had bikes and bikers that looked like cops and cop bikes and no one intruded on their space.
Are there any Blue Knights out there that can shed some light on this, especially those that also ride their own non-cop bikes?
Don't get lax, even for a second.

I read on a post, I think that it was here, where some one in Ca. dressed in similar colored clothing as the CHiP.
The results where amazing to say the least. Since every one thought that he was CHiP, they acted accordingly. When he took the same route in normal riding apparel, it was like he wasn't even there.
Well. I may paint my bike Blue and White, and where a white shorty helmet.

I know it is illegal to have flashing blue or red lights, but what about one steady blue and one red mounted driving lights on a bar, you know one on each side... just on the front.
???
Jim, I guess they don't turn in front of you when you're hauling though.

Well, as for the red and blue lights, they have the market cornered! The Police some times get upset with blue.
Believe it or not, more people pull out and turn left in front of my "big Truck" then have while on my bike. Although, if I know I'm in the "right" , they're gonna be in trouble for sure. I don't swerve, or move for stupid people. Like I told my wife once before. I don't want to kill any one, but who is going to tell, and take care of my kids because of an idiot.

Guess I'll have to wear my uniform when I ride now so I can feel safer. Then I'll have to paint my bike white. Nevermind

I feel a little bit better now. The guy in the car got charged with negligent homicide and no drivers license. Now to see what the courts say.

Now, you feel better? I liked it better when you were mad, angry, frustrated. @#$%^&*&^%$#W@#$% Holy crap!!! two lives, two families, one dead the other with a lifetime of regret, AMA has it right.... Driver education by bill board, public service announcements, preachers in pulpits, teachers in schools, and Jack you're right the manslaughter charge will help if it is publicized. We, riders, are not actively doing squat. We need to talk to people about talking to others to watch for motorcycles.
When I get in from this oil rig, I going to send money to the AMA. I've procrastinated too long.
If I get killed, I want a bunch of people to get really pissed. Let's make some noise now and every time one of us get Jankalowed.
Now I feel better too. And I am going to call and write and make some noise. AND I am going to send the AMA a check.
Someone from the Slidell/Lacombe area should call the Judge to sentence the driver to tell his story to teens in schools as public service. I sure there are some ways to make a changes. Maybe this is one.

I joined the AMA years ago. They are the only voice we have that I am aware of other than ABATE.
Also, I like your idea for punishment.

If you havent already done it, get a head light modulator. After I put my SD modulator on, I noticed a significant improvement in my ability in being seen. This with driving with my high beam on during daylight, really helps.
Sorry for busting in on your state board, but this is a serious topic, and thought I'd share something that should help.
Ride safer.
