I was just wondering who is active on this board, I would like to even count our fellow riders who don't actively post here. I look around the other state sites and see that they have put together a group of people who are active in 1) having a web site 2) Do an occasional ride together 3) Tech sessions, etc....Anyone interested in pursuing this further??

you can count me in for all...

except I don't have a website yet :?

I don't think the NY board moves too well during the winter months
hopefully we can pick it up some in spring.

Hey MikeC, glad that you are in. I have seen some of your ideas on here i.e. ride to Honda Homecoming, etc. I will be there and I think staying in the same hotel as you. I think if we can get some riders on here that are as interested as us we can get something going. Maybe a ride together as soon as the snow melts. It would be nice to put faces to names and see what we can do to get state chapter going. I will keep in touch. T-Bone.

I am active and always interested in meeting up with people.

Maybe we can start a VTX Chapter riding club. Anyone know how we start that.

I'd love to get together in the spring

we would have to pick a central location in NY
still would be few hours ride for most but alot of fun...

I just got my fork springs in and when I get a chance I will be putting them in with a mechanic friend of mine...

maybe we can turn it into a tech session for a few of us

sorry HondaDavidson I didn't see your question

I guess we already have a "club" right here on these forums

I have offered to coordinate(sp) the res. covers, patches, shirts ect. in a previous post and got little feedback...

maybe it's due to it being winter or just no real interest in a "club"

I'm still looking for feedback from NYers regarding this so if you read the post please reply with comments

Hello folks,

While relatively new to this board and one season in on my 2003 1800c Uranium, I never even scrolled down the opening page to see state chapter boards. How much more of an idot can I be.

In any case I'm in! I can help as much as time allows and would love to meet centrally for a group ride once weather permits.

I just bought the Thunder Tornado and V&H Big Shots. Just need my garage warmer to start projects. I plan on getting into deep doo-doo once I start so I'll be online looking for help.

About me: I live in Ithaca, right at the end of Cayuga Lake, in the Fingerlakes. Great riding roads out here fellas! I'm a 51 year old marketing guy and USAF Vietnam Era veteran. This VTX is my 7th bike over all. I started on a CB350, then CB750, 650 BSA, 1950 Panhead, 450 Suzuki, then another CB 750, then spotted this beautiful Uranium Green VTX in the Honda store while buying parts. THEN Honda offered their special deal and whamo! "I'm back in the saddle again . . ."

I look at this forum almost every day. I was thinking that for the most part allot of New Yorkers were not interested by the list of threads down the page and the dates on the older ones.

I have posted a couple times. Mostly beginner questions as I just got my MC liscence and am still trying to decide where I will purchase my VTX.

This will be my first bike and I will be looking for all the advice and riding practice I can get.

A couple of people have contacted me from this forum in the past and I am looking forward to meeting them and anyone else that is willing to spend a little time with me occasionally answering questions that may or may not be obvious to them.

I'm 44 and live in Ransomville in western NY.

T-Bone, I see you are local to me. PM me and I'll give you my phone number.

Otherwise guys, I'm getting very impatient for spring so that I can get atarted on this motorcycle thing.

Welcome Russ Ithaca VTX and Bowsrus, its good to know of some more riders who are interested in getting a NY VTX thing going. Any suggestions or thoughts on how to do this would be welcome. As for a ride maybe we can all meet up at the Honda Homecoming July 28-30 in Marysville , OH. There are a few of us who are planning on going and we could either meet there or ride there together. Rooms are going fast so if you think you might be interested, getting reservations might be the thing to do. Mike C and I are staying at the Amerihost in marysville. I have some thoughts on a state website and if anyone has any experience doing this I would like to talk to you. The more imput the better on this. Bowsrus, I have PM'd you. Talk to you guys later, T-Bone.

Not to butt in here, but the WIVO group (Wisc / ILL) started pretty small as well. With only a few guys getting together. After posting what they did and the fun they had, Suddenly MANY others started comming on board.

All you need to start, is Two People

Thanks Dawg. I am thinking the weather is playing a factor here. Can't do the thing that most bikers like to do...Ride. Maybe when the deep freeze breaks we can get out and meet each other. That would be a good start. T-Bone.

I check these boards pretty routinely and have posted a few since signing on this past fall. I'm so anxious to ride that I'm getting ready to break through ice and snow compacted on my rather long grass driveway to get on the road, even for a few miles. I'll brave the salt and winter crud as best as possible. There are a few down in the lower Adirondack and Catskill region who would probably prefer to ride than write. Hopefully I'll be able to meet some of you when the weather allows. I can't make it to Ohio for the homecoming but will be at Lake George for Amricade in early June. Then on the road for about 6 weeks with an extended tour of the US including Alaska. I've got relatives in the Buffalo area and plan on riding up that way at some point. Well, let's keep communicating and work on some feasible ridesmeetings. A central location sounds like a good starting point for discussion.

Perhaps for those of us in WNY, we could meet at a cigar bar or some such thing to talk about winter mods, readiness for spring, or whatever?

I am more of a viewer than a poster...but I ck this site daily. Have met a couple of great local people from the board..one that lives in my town, one from a nearby state.

I am up to meet people to share experiences and go for rides. However...I never seem to have the time. As such I have had my bike since Aug 04 and only have 700 miles on it. If the New Yorkers are getting together somewhere... let me know and I'll try to make it.

I am planning to do a lot more riding this year (I hope) and have even considered going to Americade ..but that's a real long shot for me.

As so many of us, I am just plain sick of the cold and snow. I have my bike stored for the winter and it kills me to see it sitting there...I have just 7 more years and I be moving to south Florida!

Middletown isn't too far...

we'll see if we can get together for a ride in spring

Hi RichNY, welcome to the board. Middletown is by my old stomping grounds. I used to live down in Ulter Co. in Rosendale. Still go down there alot to visit. I will be down there on the bike this summer and we will have to get together and ride. As soon as the white stuff melts and the temps start to rise I am sure that most of us would like to get together and put faces with names. Talk to ya later, TB.

Hi RichNY, I'm in Hurleyville, about 30+ miles up Rt. 17, exit 107 or 105 at Monticello, then a 5 mile ride to the boonies. We moved up here from N. Florida a few months ago. Some people think that's crazy. I wanted to get back to 4 seasons even at the expense of some riding time. But I know what you mean, I rode nearly every day and commuted to work by motorcycle. Except for snow, I planned on riding through the winter up here by use of electric gloves and proper winter gear.
Then the white stuff came. Oh well, There's beauty in it though. Roads here are surprisingly clean, just my long driveway could have been an ice rink lately. Now its melting and if it continues I'll get on the road for some local riding. Just a note, I waited for years to get back hear and retirement finally happened. I'll make up for the lull in riding by going on a long trip this summer and extensive area touring. BTW, Florida has soime of the most boring terrain, especially in the sourthern part. The north is a little bit better. Fine riding doesn't happen until you get to northern Georgia and into North Carolina. I'm anxious to visit the OCC store down in Montgomery. Been There?

RichNY
02-04-2005, 06:44 PM
The OCC shop is now in Walden... I believe. I've met Paul Sr. at a car show in Montgomery(before they became famous) ..brought his air force motorcycle...cool, but very dangerous riding.

Look forward in meeting up with you guys. I am so winter crazed I think I am taking it out of storage tomorrow...can't wait to ride!

Hey Russ I live in Vestal and I do ride to Ithaca on occasions. I am an IC alumn. I coached at Ithaca High and played football at IC. I love to eat Greek in college town. I to am interested in doing more with a state thing. There are a couple of us around here with the X. I have been out every day for a ride and looking forward to this weekend. I am going to go to Marysvale in July too. Well drop me a line Tros

I used to live in western NY. I kinda miss it sometimes. Seems like there are more x'ers up there than down here on Long Island. I've been thinking about taking the bike for a ride back up to buffalo to visit friends and such... only problem is, the weather is so unpredictable for the ride back and forth. I don't have rain gear and usually don't like riding in the rain. Guess i'm more of a fair weather rider. I am getting the itch to ride though. This weekend is going to be in the 40's close to 50's down here. Hmmm....... we'll see.

There are quite a few VTX riders on the island that I met during the summer at Nathans in deer park, Bald Hill, Port Jeff. The NY thread seems to be dead during the winter. I ride year round but this snow crap really sucks.

Hey RichNY, I always look for a few good days in each month to ride during the winter and today was one of them. 51 deg. but warm enough to break the beast out and do some riding! I don't know, everytime I ride after a few weeks off it seems like getting the bike new again and taking it out for the first ride. It was one big smile!!

T-Bone --
I'm interested in whatever is going on. Schedule permitting, that is. (Work, family, kids both in travel soccer, etc., etc.).
VTXDDS -- like like Li432Paul said, there are probably more of us here on LI than you realized. I confess, I haven't checked the board in a few weeks myself, but I was also out riding for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon.
There are a few VTXers on LI who are all associated with air traffic control in some way, and a couple of them had put some effort into trying to get us better organized several months ago. I imagine they'll be showing up on the board again soon, especially as the weather improves.
In any case, I'll try to remember to keep checking this board from time to time, and hope to catch up with some of you soon.

Hey, not for nuthin' guys, although I live in the Garbage, I mean Garden, State, I used to live in the Rotten, I mean, Big, Apple. My better half hails from NY as well, so New York has had its way w/me and left its mark as well.

I'm new here to the VTXOA and I recently affiliated (so far, loosely) with the NJXRiders. Just got back on two wheels after a 15 year hiatus, have had a dozen or so bikes over the last 37 yrs. and I'm looking to make new acquaintances and learn new things. The VTX is in a league of its own IMO.

T-Bone, your initiative is meritorious and I'm certain that your effort to organize will pay off in spades over time. What I'm thinking is this; NY is a very big state and consequently many of you might actually be closer to out-of-staters such as myself than to your Empire State brethren. I would like to do some more riding in your great state and I would hope that some of you NooYawkers would be interested in doing the same in mine and some of the other states that are adjacent or proximate to you.

I would be happy, at any point in the future as you might deem appropriate, to try to help coordinate or facilitate interstate interaction. Although the Jersey VTXOA affiliate group is quite new and I certainly can not speak for them, I surmise that they (we) could assist you in dealing with and overcoming the birth pains attendent to any startup venture such as you are contemplating. If you have not yet reached out to the NJXRiders, perhaps I can act as your intermediary and introduce you to the movers and shakers there. Let me know what you think!

Regards and Respect

Hey Guys,
If I may, I would also be interested in joining in on some rides when the weather gets a little nicer. I can't say that I've let the bike sit there all winter especially on those 40-50 degree days, but only on short rides. I can't wait for this snow to melt. I usually ride alone and hook up with some other riders along the way. It would be nice to meet others from the board. I am also interested in seeing the different mods that you guys have done. I ride a 1800 custom. Not too many extras. Really trying to save up for the fat 240  One day when I hit lotto.
By the way, I may not have many posts because I like to "browse" alot more than type. Oh well... hope to hook up one day. Dan

Hi Dan, welcome to the board. Your from my old stomping grounds. I used to live in Rosendale. There are a few riders from around that area. I am working on putting something together that would allow for possible more than one chapter of NY VTX Riders. Each member could belong to the chapter that is closest to their home and maybe we could do a once or twice a year ride together with all of the chapters. I notice that is what is being done in other large states. What do you and the other riders think? Gotta go, T-Bone.

I haven't been able to check messages for a few days, computer pooped out, now I'm back and have to rebuild lots of directories, etc. Well, I WAS ready to ride, then it snowed, snowed, snowed. Nice to curl up with my wife, so things are fine. I may have lost my pics and have to remember how to do get them back.
I just installed some nice Kury highway pegs and got more camping stuff. I found an army surplus sleeping bag that is feather (down?) filled for cheap. A surplus outfit in Idaho. Getting ready for some seerious long distance riding. Anyone game for Alaska in June? After Americade? Not kidding. Of course, you must be prepared for several weeks of riding.
