I noticed last week when I asked Drywallman about putting a R seat on a C he was able to pull up some cool Service Manul type pictures. Is that from one of those cd's that I see on ebay for a couple bucks? I just purchased an Oiltemp/dipstick and want to know whats my Temp range. I have heard of some users that have used Red finger nail polish to show when an engine is getting to hot. If there is a green polish to use that for normal running temp. I am up for suggestions if anyone has a better idea.

I believe it's for a C, but it could be for both. I'll check when I get back into town (tonight) and let you know.

If that CD is for a C, I'd be interested too. :)

I have a Service Manual I bought off Ebay for about $30, but it's for the R and I own a C :(

Here you go http://www.hondaonlineparts.com/index.asp
just look up the part you want write the part number down and then go back to the front page and enter your part number than they will give you a price for that part.

I know that is not what you wanted but, this is where I got the pics to send you.

Drywallman I am trying to find out what is the Normal oil Temp range for my X. I just put in one of those Dipstick temp gauges and would like to mark the gauge so at a glance while riding I would know what temp I am running at. Do you know ?

Normal operating oil temp is about 190 to 205. Hope this helps.

OK, I just checked my service manual on CD. It's for a C model. VTXOAK was kind enough to send it to me and I'll be happy to share it with you. If anyone else wants a copy, just let me know and I'll copy it for you. I drive an R and could use a service manual for the R. If you're interested in selling yours, please let me know.

Skip, I'll try to make it over there on Wed. night. It would be good to meet some of you guys. I'll bring a CD for you.

On another topic, my son installed my new Roadhouse pipes while I was out of town. They look fantastic and sound great! I'll take a pic tomorrow and post it.

I'd like to keep the manual, even though it's for an R. Nice to have a hard copy in your hand while working on things. If you'd like, I'll meet you at Kinkos or any other copier of your choice. The one I purchased off Ebay is bound together with a plastic binder and is a copy. The manual I have, could easily be removed, copied and rebound. You pay, for copying costs and having it rebound, and your more than welcome to use it. Especially since your nice enough to make a copy of your CD. Any others who would like to make a copy could do so at the same time.

Yes, I have the Roadhouse Shorty too. I also love the sound and ease of installation.

I'll cut and paste a reply from a guy named Mike, regarding oil temperatures on his bike.

I have that same gauge on my bike for about 3 months now. My temp runs between 180 to 200 degrees. If I am in stop and go traffic on an 80 degree day it will rise up to 215 D. I am running Mobil 1 red cap. I have heard of some temp. getting up to 225 DEG.

I like mine, and when I run it HARD, or make a trip to Vegas in the hot part of the summer, it is nice to see just where the oil temp is at.
So far 230 is the max I have seen it.

Personally, I like to use a Synthetic oil (some would argue, I use a "semi-sytnetic oil) because synthetics handle wide variations in temperature much better, break down much slower on their viscosity (espcecially since our engine oil, also circulates into our tranmission gears) and have much higher film strengh, which is important on long periods of non-use (winter). I use Shell Rotella 5-40, which can be bought by the gallon at Walmart for like $12.84. The 40 protects during the high temperatures. The 5 makes start ups on those cold mornings easy on your engine. 70% of the wear on an engine is created, when the engine is cold. Good to stay off the throttle until the engine has had time to warm up and the engine is starting to flow. Obviously the lower the viscosity, the easier the oil flow when cold. Here's a good read on oil, for what it's worth. http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Oils1.html This guy also uses Shell Rotella Synthetic 5-40 as his oil of choice in every vehicle and motorcycle he owns.

I think I'll do as you did and watch for a service manual on ebay. In the mean time, I'll burn a couple copies of what I have. It's in pdf format, so it takes a while to load when you open it up.

Mountain Flier:

Remind me and I'll give you a couple Sony CD-RWs for your trouble.

PDF is no problemo.

Thanks

Kirby,
Burn me off a copy as well if you would be so kind. My ride buddy that lives near me has a C.

Where are you meeting Mike (skipdrag) Wednesday night?

Is this the meeting to be held downtown with the Shadow Riders?
I was thinking about going myself. Let me know.
