I am a Road Captain for the South Jerz Riderz. We are involved with the first annual Greater Philadelphia Ride for Kids. The Ride for Kids organization is a biker found and biker run organization that raises money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of America. Brain tumors and Cancer are leading killers amongst children and a ride like this one will help raise funds and awareness for the children that need our help.
The event takes place on Sunday, September 18th, 2005. It will start at the IMAX Theater in King of Prussia and end in Longwood Gardens in Delaware. It'll be a little under 50 miles through some very scenic terrority. We not only need to spread the word in regards to the event, but volunteers that can lend a hand to actually run the event. I know distance may be an issue for some of you, but I wanted to get this information to as many people as I can so you’re free to make your own decision as to whether or not you would like to be involved and/or attend. For more information on the charity itself, you can visit the website http://www.philadelphia-rideforkids.org and you will be able to see the tremendous work they have done for these kids. In the past 10 years they have raised more than 20 million dollars and they have hosted successful events all over the country with tens of thousands of riders participating.
The main office of this organization only estimates a few hundred bikers will attend this event but I think we can do better. September is a little difficult for most because there's alot going on that month and other charity events going on at that time. It'll be hard to squeeze in with all these well established events but I'm confident people will be able to ride with us on such a special day. Be advised from what I hear about Ride for Kids runs all around the country they're very emotional. Children who have survived Cancer and are currently under treatment will be there and ride with us on the event. There is a ceremony at the end of the ride where clubs and businesses that have helped make the event happen will get special honors. You'll also get to see how much money was raised and give a big round of applause for the children who need all the support.
I have met a few people that are volunteers for this event and they are fiercely devoted to this cause. You can't help but admire that.
Please mark that day on your calendar and if you can make it to king of prussia please do so. You won't regret it. If you or your club want to volunteer to help organize the event please contact me. We meet the second Tuesday of every month and all are welcome.
Thank you all for your time and take care.
