Wierd experience last saturday. At 7am Pi woke me up and told me "Were heading out, see ya around noon.'. Since I was kind of awake anyway so I did comprehend her words. Uh where are you going? Pi said, Were going to Willamina for michell's basketball games. Michelle is my 10 year old daughter. Well, after watching the morning news I found myself pretty board just hanging around the empty house, so I figured I'd ride to see my girls game. (I try not to miss them. There really a kick!) So I saddled up in my cold weather gear, including my snowmobile gloves with those small powder hand warmers, and hit the road at 7:45, 37 degrees out. Roads were still wet, got my bike dirty, @#*&^#%. Nice ride though. After the game it was just too nice to go home. So I figured I'd go on my favorite short ride. McMinnville 99w to Corvalis. Hwy 34 over to 99E, through Tangent, 3.9 miles to a train trestle over the Calipoolia river. About a hour and 15 minutes depending on maturity and throttle dicipline. On the way there, geez my right hand sure was sore! %$@# I had a small cut on my hand, so I thought the little heating pad was irritating it. I arrived at the train trestle and waited for about an hour to see a train. I like to hang in the center of the trestle, built in 1904, and have the big freighters go over my head at 50+ mph. Really makes that trestle flex and shake! What a rush! Hour went by, no train, so I rode to Tangent to fuel up for the ride home. While I was fueling, here comes a train! The big long freighter's last car went by just as I finished and hung up the spout. I thought to myself, I wonder if I can catch that train? I knew there were no police on the road. Throttle maturity be damned. 115mph I had 3.9 miles to catch that train....Yeeeeehaaaa!!!!!!! The terrible X made the pavement tremble as as the awsome V twin caught up with the speeding train with about a 1/4 mile ahead of the engine. Whew, that was fun. That hour and 1/2 home ride was good too except for that freaking heating pad irritating the little cut on my hand. @#@ Well, when I got home, I removed my glove to find the top of my hand burned with big water blisters developed! I had been being burned the whole time I rode! Normally I would have stopped to check on what was giong on inside my glove, but that little cut fooled me into thinking the discomfort was nothing to be concerned with. So if you use those little powder hand warmers that are only supposed to develope 140 degrees, keep am eye on them because they can get much hotter! Ride safe fellow Xriders! Sundance :x
