Hey guys.
I'm new to this board. Live in Bountiful. Didn't even know there was
a Utah chapter. Cool. Anyway I'm not familiar with this desmog
thing. What is it and why do you do it.

Thanks

Just did mine today with DrywallMan (Lewis), Skipdrag (Mike), and Terry. There is more crap to come off the bike than I expected! I did it to stop the decel popping with aftermarket pipes, to deepen the sound of the pipes, and to open up the airbox for more air flow. This mod, that Lewis and Mike basically did for me, added everything positive I expected. What I did not expect was the performance increase, and that is without the K&N I have on order. I have heard it said before, and believe it now, that the X loves to breathe. This did it! Contact Lewis for technical info.

Hey guys,

Anybody know if the local Honda shop can do this mod or if they even
will do it. Thanks again.

Don't think that they will do it because it's not really supposed to be done. Desmog is only for test purposes, in my case I'm still testing, and will continue to test untill my X dies. So far the testing is going great.

Your question is like, can I take my Ford to the Dealer and have him take all the smog stuff off of it? Not likely. My .02

Hello and welcome to our chapter.
LOL thats funny Drywall (because its true) :D . I LOVE my new Hypercharger and Desmog it was a eyepopping upgrade both in looks and performance :!: I'm sure you would be happier doing this upgrade yourself rather than having to PAY honda to do it. blank off plates are only $13.00  from HDL(honda direct line). few allen wreches and a #10 and #8 wrences (open end), I put some high heat RTV on the plates to make a good seal. and this mod is a snap. helps ya to "get to know" your bike better to. plenty of info here on this forum and enjoy the ride.

Lewis helped me with my desmog, too (he basically did it). I, like others, am very pleased with the result. It made my stock pipes sound better and is a good complement to my aftermarket pipes. I'm looking forward to warmer weather when we can all get together for a ride. For now, I'd like to get a few of us together for another tech session. I know my friend Ross wants to do a desmog on his scoot.

Hi guys,

What are these blank off plates JETMECH was talking about. Where
do I look on HDL for them? Any help is appreciated.

Geeeeesh. How about a little notice next time. http://www.headachesupportgroups.com/echat45/shrug.gif. I'd be glad to help and I'd if nothing else love to watch. Especially since you guys are so pleased with the results.

Some of us (namely me), just aren't sold on tinkering, just to tinker.

Anyone tell me exactly what I need for;
1. Desmog
2. Valve Adjustment
3. Ground Fix/Check

After all, if I'm taking my tank off, I'm going for it. :)

Any help would be appreciated and next time you guys have a tech meeting/session, I'd love to come, I'll even bring my metric wrenches

Jetmech:

That's all you need? What is high heat RTV? Where do you get that? Cost? Does HDL have it? Thankshttp://www.headachesupportgroups.com/echat45/hail.gif

Sorry about that, Hehe RTV is just a mechanics way of saying silicone or calk, its a form-a-gasket. you can buy it at Wal-mart for about $4.00 (High heat is the red stuff) I just go looking at my shop for expired (aircraft standards) RTV, it works just as good as new for ground stuff. FAA won't let us use it on aircraft. If you want, I can let you have some of mine (FAA expired stuff). just PM me your phone # and I will do what I can to help ya, or Drywallman has some tech sessions, He knows lots. I am much better at the mechanical side over the computer side so Drywallman thanks for posting the plates. Good mod, my bike runs and sounds lots better.

Hey that would be great. Thanks. I guess I better order that plate from HDL. Only $13? Sounds reasonable to me. If Pete (VTXRocketer) made it you know its good stuff. $5 handling fee, ouch. Maybe I better order some more stuff to get over $100. Anyone need anything?

RTV can be picked up at any auto parts house. I got mine at Auto Zone High Temp RTV Black. I use this when I have the case spit while installing the Barnett springs. Also use this on the final drive case halfs, works great.
