Last year I traded my 95 Gold Wing for the best bike I have ever owned, a 2004 1300 C in the fast color  Orange at Gretna Honda--Gretna http://www.gretna-honda.com/ They were more than fare with me and it was a pleasure working with John, Dan and Mark. They also have a great service department and will give thier customers a 15% discount on all parts you buy from them. The last time I was there they had a used 1300 c and a sweet 1800 c, both in red...if anyone is thinking about another bike....cougar

On Gretna Honda - After being denied service for not buying my parts for them and then wanting to charge me way too much for some spare bolts that Rods just gave me for free - I don't even go there at all anymore (and they're only 15 mins from my house - Rod's is nearly an hour). Just seems like they want lots of your money or none at all.

I bought my bike from Rod's Powersports from a great young guy that is now a regional director for Yamaha. (he deserves it too) I've tried to work with Star City but they're 10-30% more expensive on everything and won't budge on prices. Plus they never seem to know anything about the VTX when I ask. Although Rod himself isn't always the easiest to deal with the service and parts guys at Rod's are second to none IMO. I do most of my own work but the times I've been in there I've always been impressed.

Of course then there's Leon.. he's a character. He does the bike prep and installs aftermarket parts at Rod's. He's a lot of fun but a little disallusioned about his VTX. Each time I go in he claims it to have a little more HP.. the last he told me I think was 145hp. And as we all know here, to get those numbers you'd have to be forced induction or total engine buildup, neither of which he's done. But, he's a nice guy so I just let it go

I purchased my 03 from the guys at Gretna Honda, and they did all the work for me on it. I would highly recommend them. They have been great to deal with, and have gone above and beyond the call of duty for me when dealing with suppliers, chromers, etc.

I'm heading to Daytona in 3 weeks with a few of the guys from the shop.

No doubt! :D And, I almost bought a retro from them last week.

No word on the wheel yet. I'm hoping to get it back by the end of the month. In the meantime, I'll ride the FZ1 if the weather ever cooperates.

The Daytona trip should be a blast. They're going to trailer my bike out there, and I'll fly in on Tuesday. We got a condo on the beach, from Tues-Sun. The total for 5 nights of lodging, and bike transport round trip is less than $600. Not a bad deal!

is that your bike on their web page? If it is, what a great bike!!! Have fun in Daytona...some brand X biker friends of mine went last year, had somebody truck their bikes out and flew, said it was a blast! They stayed at some camp grown that turn into a nude thing as the week went by..they said it just seemed like the normal thing to do  ... cougar

Cougar -

Yeah, that's mine. It's a work in progress. Thanks for the compliment. Can't wait for spring to get here to I can ride the darn thing.

I've heard Daytona is out of control. I'm very much looking forward to it.

After waiting 5 weeks for a 10 day delivery to Gretna, I bought mine from Ralph at Tim O'Neil's. Had the bike the next day. "nuff said

Well, I've never come across a perfect dealership. And, I've had some horrible experiences at other dealerships. But, to date, my experience with Gretna has been great. I'm sorry to hear others were not as fortunate.

And if you do find a perfect one let us know! They all have their problems. My wife's bike had to have the engine pulled with less than 300 miles on it because Leon at Rod's put bad gas in it when they prepped it. The valve guides were all gummed up so the valves wouldn't close and it backfired through the carb and blew the intake boots off. Their service guys made it right in a hurry and my wife chewed Rod a new one, she was NOT impressed.

I think some of it comes from the fact of where you bought your bike. You're always treated best where you spent the big bucks. 8)

Hey Stever, you did see this post didn't you???

On a separate note, here are my latest purchases:

Chrome "Exhausted"
http://www.motoarts.com/

Kewlmetal Chrome Fork Flames
http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/vtx/p ... =339923766 (http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/vtx/product.asp?pid=2215&ID=339923766)

Kuryakyn Engine Case Covers
http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/vtx/p ... =339923766 (http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/vtx/product.asp?pid=4629&ID=339923766)

I was going to purchase those Kewlmetal chrome lower fork pieces, but they are made to go with their fat fork kit. I have my stock forks chromed, so the Kewlmetal pieces are of a larger diameter...bummer. My only choice would be to buy the whole fat fork kit, and cover up my already chromed forks. :(

What's everyone else waiting on?

I'll trade you my stock forks for your chrome ones then you won't have to feel bad about covering them up!

I'm getting some new bars, braided clutch line, braided throttle cables, new grips, new air intake (sold the Hyper), and of course all my chrome. Once I get the bars in I'm going to run the cables through them and through the risers. Hope to clean up the frontend pretty nicely!

Rob,

What kind of bars did you get? Which air intake did you go with? And, what exactly are you having Handler chrome for you?

I can't wait, the chrome is at UPS in Omaha so it should be at my place tomorrow when I get home. Ordering the bars tonight, my wires are laying on the kitchen table ready to be taken apart and I'm moving all the wires from the headlight to under the tank to clean up the headlight bucket. Probably take me 3 more weeks to be back together.

Bought mine at Gretna Honda as well. Went to Starcity and Rods and it didnt go well. Gretna treated me like a dealer should. I recomend them to everyone looking for a Honda. Jahn is a stand up guy. Just my .02

I bought my 1300S (used) from Rod's where I'd previously purchased a new Rebel, and then a new 750 Shadow Aero.

I made all of my purchases through Dave Zichek ("Z-man"), who has been great to work with. He brought my 750 to Beatrice in the middle of last winter; he didn't have to do that, but he did. He helped modify the license plate holder on my 1300 and has consistently given me good advice about accessories and performance. I trust him to walk the very fine line between representing the dealer and representing me.

Ryan and Jeff in Service have been very accommodating; I live 35 miles away from Rod's and I don't have a trailer to haul my bike in for routine maintenance, nor do I have someone who can trail me to Rods, bring me home, and take me back to Rod's to pick up my bike. They've been great about scheduling.

Nick and Aaron in Parts have been very responsive, and have brought in accessories and sent them to me right away.

I've never had a moment of friction with anyone at the dealership, and I'll be going back to Rod's for my next bike, which might well be a new 1300 in a couple of years.

I bought my '01 Sabre from Rods. I then went to Star City, and they gave me the best deal on my 1300 C. The first 1000 to be made.... I now work part time at Star City. I like both businesses, but it seems Rods has changed a lot of faces around there. I think any of the dealers will deal, you just have to make one, and stick to it. I've seen plenty of my friends go in not serious, try to get the best price, then walk out without a bike. The next time they come back.... the salesmen don't take them serious... Opinions vary too I guess. Just saying I like both places, and PLEASE come find me, or mention my name if you buy anything at Star City. It might help.. Remember, sometimes it's who you know...
(don't worry, I don't get any reimbursement or bonuses for any bikes I help sell since I work in the service dept.)

I bought a 2003 in Dec 2002 from Thiels Wheels in Upper Sandusky OH. I found them on the internet after I could not get the guys at Gretna who had a 2002 at the end of the year to move on the price. Guys at Thiels got the 2003 C with V&H pipes, Hondaline windhsield and back rest, Cobra Tach and RevTech DFO plus Shipping for $11K. That was $500 more than a stock 2002 off the floor at Gretna.

Shipping on a VTX is about $600 bills.
