I've lost my beloved M-1 redcap
Anyone know of a nearby Amsoil dealer?

Only one I know of is NC Brew. He's in NC, but I'm sure he could ship it to ya. I think my preferred membership is still good, but I'm clear up here near Atlanta. Wouldn't do you any good for me to order it for ya.

Not using it until it's proven.
From the Mobile 1 web site:
These formulations with the Advanced SuperSyn System contain 50 percent more SuperSyn, 36 percent more anti-wear additives, and 37 percent more cleaning agents than the current Mobil 1.
Good for a wet clutch?

Most of this wet clutch stuff got started by the manufacturers like Honda to keep people from using syn all together. You will find very few people who have actually had a clutch slipping problem. When they do it is usually because it is out of adjustment. As long as it does not say energy conserving it will be fine.
Many people run Royal Purple, which is actually one of the slickest oils out there. The problem with RP is it does not even stick to the metal and actually causes a lot of wear on startup. Racers love it because it actually makes a difference in ET at the track.
When used in bikes it does not cause the clutches to slip. Many rumors and drama exist out there and most are from people who have no scientific basis. I have studied many papers with actual data on oils and I have a Nuclear Engineering BS and a Masters in Physics and Chemistry, so I believe I can interpret the data pretty good. Many people on these types of websites are meerly stateing what they have heard from somebody who actually knows nothing.
If it does not have the energy conserving label I will continue to use Mobil 1. If it has the energy conserving label I will probably use Amsoil. Amsoil is a fantastic product, it is just a pain to order. Nice to be able to go to the store and pick up Mobil 1.
Remember "believe about half of what you see and none of what you hear". Many of these people are just repeating hear say from some one who has heard it from some one's cousin, who heard it from the barber, so it must be true.
Molybdenum, Atomic Number 42, is the component atributed to slipping clutches and if it gets above certain percentages it probably will cause some problems. I have not been able to get the numbers on the new Mobil 1 yet, but I would bet it will be fine to use.
Bottom line do what you a comfortable with. But always remember that not everything you hear is true.

Sounds good Mike. IF you are coming up Richmond Hill way just let me know. I will do the same if I am headed south. We ride to Darien often to eat at Mudcat Charlies. I will do some more research on the new M1 and let you know.
There is a strong possibility that I will be moving to Chattanooga, TN in the next few months we will just have to see. Would love to be 1.5 hours from Deals Gap.
Keep the shiny side up, Bro

Just for info this is proably the best overall oil for our VTX. With a Total Base Number (TBN) of 12 is is very resistant to contaminants and provides the best possible combination of additives and it will not cause clutch slippage. I am goin to switch to this when I get more settled, you can find it at Diesel truck shops.
Product Description
Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 is a fully synthetic supreme performance heavy duty diesel engine oil that helps extend engine life while providing long drain capability and fuel economy for modern diesel engines operating in severe applications. Mobil Delvac 1 utilizes state-of-the-art technology to deliver exceptional performance in modern low emission engines, including refrigerated units, as well as older, well-maintained engines. Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 is recommended for use in a wide range of heavy-duty applications and operating environments found in the on-road transport and off-road mining, construction, and agricultural industries. Mobil Delvac 1 also meets the API SL specification for gasoline engines used in mixed fleets.
The unequalled performance of Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 is the result of extensive cooperative development work with major equipment builders and application of the latest lubrication technology. As a result, this product meets or exceeds the latest API, ACEA, JASO, and Global industry specifications for diesel engine oils, as well as the requirements of virtually all major American, European, and Japanese engine manufacturers.
Features & Benefits
Many modern, low emission diesel engines generate more soot and operate at higher temperatures than older engines. This significantly increases the need for supreme performance lubricants. Current tighter engine designs reduce oil consumption, resulting in less fresh oil makeup to replenish depleted additives. Top piston rings are located higher, bringing the oil film closer to the combustion chamber and exposing the lubricant to severe thermal stresses. Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 maintains outstanding performance at significantly higher temperatures than other high performance diesel engine oils. It is also fully compatible with conventional oils. The key benefits include:
Features
Advantages and Potential Benefits
Meets or exceeds demanding specifications of major OEMs One engine oil for mixed fleet operations
Outstanding thermal and oxidation stability Reduced low temperature sludge build-up and high temperature deposits
Enhanced film strength at high temperatures Reduced engine scuffing and bore polishing
Inherent stay-in-grade shear stability Wear protection and reduced oil consumption; maintains viscosity in severe, high temperature service
Advanced formulation and viscometrics Improved fuel economy
Low volatility Reduced oil consumption
Exceptional low temperature pumpability Easier engine start-up and reduced wear
Enhanced TBN quality reserve Deposit control and extended drain capability
Outstanding resistance to corrosion Extended life of critical wear surfaces
Long drain capability Increased operating efficiency and lower overall cost
Component compatibility Longer gasket and seal life, extended service intervals
Applications
Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40 is recommended for use in all super high performance diesel applications, including modern low emission engine designs with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). These applications include the following:
* On-highway engines operating in both high speed/high load and stop-and-go conditions
* Off-highway engines operating in severe low speed/heavy load conditions
* Virtually all diesel powered equipment from American, European, and Japanese equipment builders
* High performance gasoline engines and mixed fleets
* Refrigeration units
