Hey all. I'm new to the board and look forward to riding with everyone one of these days when my bike is out of winter storage.

I've got a question....I'm thinking of puting on a new air kit, probably either a Thunder Hurricane, Barons BAK or a xtreme revolution. I'm somewhat mechanically challenged and don't want to damage the bike at all. Has anyone installed one yourself or had an of the local dealers install one for you? Just wondering how hard it will be and if I need to change anything else when installing. I just hate the look of the plain air box cover that's on there now.

Oh yeah, I have a '03 1300 retro.

Thanks!!

Hey silvervtx: You live in Utah?

How's your Shell Rotella 5-40 Synthetic hangin?

Some times I wish I did... Two weeks ago the ground was bare and I could ride now we have two feet of snow and lots of cold. The oil is doing fine so far....I even recommended it on the board today...right behind amsoil and mobil 1...

Part of the reason I posted here was because I wanted a local answer in case anyone had a local dealer work on it or if I could perhaps bribe a local member to help me....wink, wink!

Thanks again for any help.

When the weather gets a little warmer, I think we are going to have some tech get togethers. Some really good wrenchers on these boards. I don't have a 1300, but I can't imagine changing your air intake being that difficult.

And yes, silvervtx, is correct. Many good 1300 techies hang on the 1300 Technical Message Boards. Just use the search engine in their too. Helps you identify topics easily.

Get that Scoot out of sotrage and come ride on the Polar Bear with us. We'll be meeting, Honda Salt Lake's Parking lot 9:00 a.m. Sunday March 13th. More the merrier. :) :D

And Welcome aboard, Mate.

PS: I'd wait and take a good hard look at Pete's (VTXROCKETEER) Proton 4, which should be coming out soon.

There are three of us out in the north that have changed air boxes, very simple and would gladly help out.

ILUVUMAN that intake looks really cool were did you find out about it. I want to learn more. Very interested in a new intake also. The BAK looks like a possible option. But I want to learn more about this Proton 4 looks like it could be mounted to the stock air box? Probably has a K&N inside?
IF you have any more info that would be a big help.

Thanks,

skipdrag and others interested:

Proton 4, is probably one of the most discussed topics on these strings. Go to the Search engine and type Proton4. You'll have more hits, than you probably want.

Here's the largest and most recent string, I could find, which tells the story the best. http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/viewtopic.p ... ht=proton4 (http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=45660&highlight=proton4)

The Proton 4 is the air intake I'm waiting for. I love the looks and functionality.

HDL will be selling them. Email or call them, they'll tell you the status.

Yes, a K&N Air Filter fits inside.

PS: German Pete (VTXROCKETEER), who invented and did the development on the Proton 4, told me, they make one for both the 1800 and the 1300, when available. He sold the rights of them and they are in ramp up production phase as I type and should soon be available for sale.
