I think that we are about ready to send to Autocad files to Bonz. So far the design lay out has been an outline drawing no Fill. The Fill is the part of the engraving that which is a shape not just a line. In Autocad Fill is done using “hatch” a series of parallel lines in this case < .03 inches apart to direct the .03 cutting tool of the CNC machine to cut out the area desired. We do not have to use Fill on our design, we could stay with a line drawing. If we deside to to use fill we need to agree what to Fill.

VTX N is Fill in this Tennessee cover

I altered Heavy’s bmp, the darker grey would be the fill area the rest is shining chrome. Nebraska outline filled this would make the “X” and the Mask stand out more. Also I would suggest that fill be used in the Flame area behind the lettering.

i like it just the way you have it vtxhogg (with the state outline filled in.) lets get them made.

I believe that if we would fill the banners, those are to close to the out line of the state. i would say if you have to fill the banner or the lettering i would fill the lettering. just my thoughs....

I move the flame boarder out, and tried to display each possible variant of text and fill.
Letters NEBR – are chrome , flames fill.
Letters ASKA – are outline only
VTX RIDERS – letters are fill , flames are outline

Of the Three I like the both the , outline only, or outline only .It’s hard to tell with the bit map.

Let me know which is preferred, I'll be working on it Wednesday and Thursday Nights.

I will get the autocad file to Bonz Friday

I like the fill effect applied to the state and to the letters in "Nebraska" and "VTX Rider." But, I'm in for whatever we decide to do. I know that it will look great, and it will be a unique badge that I'll be proud to have on my bike.

I'm with Danx....Is there any way to make the little N "red" on the cover? Great work on this project and I too will be proud to have it on my VTX!!

Hey VTXHOGG how did you get the temp sig to show on your post? I have the click through line, but it doesn't show on my posts....cougar

Couger,

On an engraved plate it's, fairly easy to wipe in the paint into the groove then wipe off the excess paint with a solvent and a rag. I'm not sure if the groove on the cover will be plated or raw aluminum. It would be best to consult a Paint man like Enfuego to select the best type of paint.

To get the time an temp to work save the URL you have as a IMG in you signature of your profile.

Keep in mind that not everyone that might want a Nebraska cover is necessarily a Husker (red) fan.... I know that's about as anti-Nebraskan as a Texan not liking guns but... :D :D

I would suggest that anyone that wants the red to find someone local to do it.

I agree Robdogg, the Red painted N should be an option at the local level.

For those that do not want a red N would get no paint.

Bob Devaney (ex- Nebraska Coach) when asked about the N on the Cornhusker Helmet, he replyed that the N does not stand for Nebraska it stands for knowledge :wink:

No red N for me :)

i don't think coloring the "N" would be good idea. but after seeing some of the mods i woul;d suggest the outline filled and the banners filled. not the lettering. since you move the banners out i looks great.

Glad you asked, I spoke with Bonz by phone on Thursday for about 40 minuets, he’s a blast to talk to. I picked up enough detail to complete the drawings (to take the drawings for AutoCAD 2000 .DWG file to what he wanted for a file.) He would work with jpeg, bitmaps, but he uses iges files for his Gibbs cam software but he has AutoCAD 14 and can us DFX files. AutoCAD version conversion was performed by 2000 to DFX version 14. DWG and DFX conversion I downloaded a 15-day trial version of Hyjaak 5.0, so I’ll also be sending IGES files.

Going from AutoCAD to a CNC machine requires a little work. Drawing with AutoCAD is like drawing with a razor; lines are only as thick as you need to see them (no real thickness unless specified). Bonz’s CNC machine uses three different sizes typically; we will two .01, and .03 inches. This is like drawing a picture that has been drawn with a razor edge and pencil and a Sharpie marker. So to get a sharp edge you no longer draw to the center of the line, but to the outside of the line so that the edge of the cutting tool makes the sharp line desired. So I’ve been work on drawing this weekend. Sample of what I’m talking about:

Red = .03” Tool
Blue = .01” Tool
http://bigbikeriders.com/photopost/data/3231/1092Cover_artwork.jpg

I’ll try to get all the drawing to Bonz Monday night.

Bonz will see what he can work with and cut an aluminum plate, we will then decide if we need to make any changes. So design will not be done till then.

I like it, put me down for 2 - no red

Red paint I'll try with mine, and post instructions on how to do it.

Progress is being made, just a little more work than what I thought.

THE COVER IS HERE. WE HAVE POSTED A PICTURE OF IT ON THE 'NE master cylinder covers LIST' TOPIC, TO CONSOLIDATE TO JUST ONE TOPIC TO GO TO, FOR THE ORDERING.
