head to Rod's to get a used 04, PowerSports Pro called

Congrats! I beat you by one day. I picked up my new 2003 1800C Monday morning from Procycle in Columbia, Missouri. Only has .5 miles on it. I got in on the $8k deal. :D It is sitting next to my VT1100 in the garage. My 1100 really looks meek next to the beast! 8)

I already have a list of things that I want to do and a list of parts to buy. Getting my list together and I am planning on ordering in the next couple of days.

I'm not much of a wrench, but I plan to learn with this bike. I wouldn't mind picking up tips from you guys.

I live in the Papillion area, it was way to cold to ride the bike home PSP. I took it for a ride and my hands nearly froze off.

Hal said they're really only useful for guys over about 6'4"! I of course though of you bro! They move the pegs forward and up like mine and Andy's but also add the highway peg mounts.

Well, I placed my first order with Hondaline Direct this morning. I should have the parts by the middle of next week. :D Still only have .5 miles on my bike!

I got:
Progressive Front Springs (will prolly save this for tech day)
Windshield
Risers
Cobra Angled Slashcuts
V&H Quiet Baffles (will wait to see how I like the pipes alone)
Grips
K&N air filter
HPP
Paladin backrest

I eventually want to get the Proton and Boss Bags. I think that will be enough for my first summer!

I have read a lot of posts on the tech board about breaking in the bike. I plan on doing that before I really start doing any mods. Is everyone a firm believer is riding the bike hard right off the bat? It appears that most people advise against the gentle break-in. I don't ride real aggressive, but I like to get on it now and then. :D Besides, this bike weighs 200lbs more than my VT1100 and has a ton more power. I need to get used to the weight before I ride real hard. This is the first new bike I have owned, so I want to do this right. Any suggestions?

Until the Proton is available, I was planning on opening the front side of the air box. What are your thoughts on this mod?

Well, I placed my first order with Hondaline Direct
It's addicting.. 8) Here's my quick tips:

Cobra Angled Slashcuts
Be sure you get a bung welded in these for the HPP before you install them (18mm I believe)

Grips
If you got the Kury's, now is the time to install a throttle lock if you want one. Also, don't use Kury's glue, go get some spray grip adhesive from the stealer

I can't speak for everyone but I did. Left the dealer with 0 miles, hit the rev limiter in the first 3 gears, and never looked back. Now, many thousands of miles later, she runs strong and smooth.

I was planning on opening the front side of the air box.
No particular reason to actually cut your box up. You can achieve the same result by taking the snorkle and flapper out. (they're glued in) This would be about the equavalent to a Kury Hypercharger as far as flow goes. Opening the front IMO would be mostly for the looks, although I'm sure it would introduce some cooler air but not enough to notice a perf difference.

Can't wait to see the mods and meet up!

Also,

I would suggest you install the HPP yourself or have one of us help you with it. Don't use the vampire clips it comes with. Solder in pigtails with spade or bullet connectors. If you have a dealer do it there is a slim chance it will be done the proper way (with soldered joints)

Yes, I was planning on saving the pipes and HPP for tech day since I am not much of a wrench.

Cool, No problem there but be sure you have the bung welded in ahead of time (if they don't come with one already) And even if they do already have one, it will most likely need to be drilled out and tapped for an 18mm O2 sensor, which should also be done before the tech day.

a guy by the name of BigLry told folks to ride your new X frisky, there has been as much discussion about this subject as oil and sparkplugs lol
Congrats to the new X riders and think about heading to Denver for the 4th of July Colorado Ride In. www.coloradovtxriders.com (http://www.coloradovtxriders.com) Cya, Lep

Good news! All my parts are in. Wife is out of town for the weekend and my VT1100 is in the paper. Hopefully it sells this weekend so I can have more room in the garage.

Well, I should revise that statement. All parts are in, but HDL is reshipping the exhaust. They sent me Classic Deluxe Slashcuts instead of 2 1/2" Angled Slashcuts. Because of everything else going on this past week, I still wasn't able to slip out and put any miles on the new X.  :x

I was able to get all the badges and reflectors taken off. Tomorrow I might try to remove the stickers on the shaft drive. So many damn dummy stickers.

I'm really looking forward to "tech" day.

Ok, bought my bike on March 7th, but due to circumstances beyond my control :x I was unable to ride it until today. Up until today, I was a X virgin.

HOLY SH@T!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I LOVE THIS BIKE!!!!

This was my first X ride and I was a little concerned about the extra 200 lbs over my VT1100, but I have to say that the X still felt pretty nimble. It has the turning radius of a truck. But was suprised at how light it felt at low speeds. After reading the forums for 6 months, it sounded like it would be a cow at very low speeds.

Drove right to gas station, put gas in, and then to JFK. Ripped through the gears going up the on ramp and was doing 95 mph before I realized I was speeding   8) I have NEVER had a bike snap my head on every gear change!!! 8) I was amazed at the power!

I now realize what everyone on this forum has been talking about. I was able to get some of my parts on. A little of a pain to do by myself, but I love the Aeromach 6" risers. Finally got all of those damn dummy stickers off also.

(By the way, if you haven't noticed, this article was written with a perma-grin! )

Unfortunately, 1 full weekend down and no calls on my VT1100. :( Had it in the OWH since Friday. If anyone knows of someone local that is looking for a scooter, let me know. I have a nice one that has been taken care of.
