Hi,
I live in Sydney and actually I just accidently ended up seeing the restrictions on sound levels from nsw motorcycle council's webpage. http://www.mccofnsw.org.au/a/80.html
I bought the vtx with cobra pipes from the dealer and I also got the stock exhaust with it. Well, the cobras are pretty loud and they do not have the ADR label. The dealer never told me about these labels which I should probably have on.
Anyone got into trouble with aftermarket exhaust?
At least mine is not the loudest one I've seen in Sydney but I don't want to end up paying o the spot 200$ fine because of having nice pipes/sounds.
Maybe I end changing back to stock and when I move back to Finland I'll change the cobras back since we do not have such stupid restrictions on aftermarket exhausts.

Cheers,
Iippo

Hey Iippo,

Those restrictions down there are ridiculous - I too have Cobra pipes on my 1300 and everytime I ride into northern NSW wonder if/when I will be pulled over. I have no sticker on my pipes and see no reason why I should have one if I don't live in NSW. There are no signs at the border telling me about this requirement either - just seems to be one of those "sneak it in - tell em later" type things to raise revenue. I can honestly say that these pipes have saved my life on 3 occassions when a motorist has not seen me - they sure heard me when I wound it up to get past them!! Isn't that what they should be more worried about instead of trying to raise revenue??

I think something was raised in the NSW parliament last week regarding that law so you may see some changes once ratified, hopefully soon.

I'm planning to do the Anzac Ride that was posted on the board - I'm still contemplating changing back to my stock exhaust to avoid the fine.

If I were you and depending on when you bought the bike, I would be going back to the dealer and asking them to pay for and fit the label that is required. They would have known about the change in law.

All I can say is thank f*%ck I don't live in NSW!!

Safe riding :mcrider:

Hi,
Thanks for for comments Beaker.

It seems that we have the the similar slashcuts :D

No-one is really informing about these things in NSW, until you get fined.
I have been seeing signs in the shops about illegal Yoshimura pipes in Sydney metro but that's it.
I asked about this from the dealer and they were more or less ready to switch the cobra's back to stock if I wanted to do so and even free of charge. But the dealer wasn't able to provide the plate on the cobra pipe though, which totally pisses me off.
I love the cobras bark!!! Haven't heard the stock pipes at all, but what I've heard they're pretty lame.
Advice basically is that, get the rego, pink slip whatever, and then change the pipes, but anyway this does not prevent you getting fines. But what I've heard, coppers do check streetbikes more often than cruisers.
But hell, all the bloody harleys over here are louder than my X, but I guess if you can afford fixing your hd all the time, you can afford paying the fines.

Safe riding to you too,
Iippo
