Hello fellow X'ers,

I have had my x for almost a year and have been a member of the site but never scrolled down past the 1300 message boards to see the states. I don't spend alot of time online as I rarely have the time running a stainless steel fab shop. I am hoping to meet some of you and actually form more of a life, HA HA!!! I love riding! It has been 17 years coming for me to get back on the street after being hit by a car, I rode just never bought my own bike and was always kind of a crotch rocket kinda guy, still have a little fire in me for one but kinda like the cruiser lifestyle these days as it seems life is already passing me by too fast... I don't need to do it on a bike. Anyhow, I have a silver 04' C and last Sunday installed some new HK 2 into 1 sideburners, and thunder jet kit. Still waiting on the intake...backordered, grrrr! I am looking to hookin' up with a few of you, that is if you're looking to expand your club. Most of my buddies have Harley's so I could use a little backup, LOL! Reply or email me! Maybe we can set up some X-runs to and fro! Hope to hear from you! Slim phat boy (Mike)

Mike,
Welcome to the Nebraska board. I think now that we have our own board the communication amongst one another will be real good and the opportunity to arrange rides on the spur of the moment and also the rides that are planned well in advance, will be so easy with our Nebraska board. I am looking forward to checking it often to see if anyone is looking to put some miles on whenever I get the chance to do so. I still have yet to go riding with my co-worker and fellow VTXer from Omaha. I have had my X for about a year now too and last year never got the chance to hook up with him and put some miles on. We will gidder done this year though. Once again, WELCOME!!!! and hope to put some miles on with you and the others.

Welcome to the board Mike! Have you seen the posting about the Tech day in April? That would be a great way to meet most everyone.

You say you run a Stainless steel fab shop? Hmmmm, do you have U bends and lengths of pipe? I am trying to complete a turbo set-up on my car and was thinking about having a piece made out of stainless. When you get some time post again.

Sorry no tubing bender, I do have a pipe bender but with thinwall materials it just kinks them. I don't get alot of call for bending so I have not been able to justify the 10+g's for buying a good bender. I do however have a shear, press brake, cnc punch press/plasma cutting machine, sheet metal roller, ironworker, lathe, horizontal and vertical band saws as well as lots of hand tools and about every welder a guy could want. Thinking of getting and english wheel and planishing hammer, just for fun! And for those of you who might need a hand with welding I can weld just about anything and hook you up with a good dealer/supplier if your looking at something for yourself. As the saying goes its not always WHAT you know, but WHO you know! The April deal sounds great!!! I let Gretna Honda do my first service and adjust the valves, but I need to do an oil and filter change for spring so that would be a great opportunity if I am not working that weekend. Keep me posted.

Mike thanks for the info. I was thinking of buying the stainless pipe in U/J bends, cutting the angles with a chopsaw and farming out the welding. I know what a welder looks like but thats as far as my talents go.

It sounds like you have a lot of equipment to play with :D

Mike,

Are you able to make something like the stand in Pete's post?

http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/viewtopic.p ... ight=stand (http://www.vtxoa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53413&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=stand)

I have been waiting to see if he would make it available (along with the Proton ) but I haven't seen anything yet.

Never asked, but what does everyone else on this NE forum use. I have a Craftsman jack, but it would definately be messy to use it for oil changes and the like.

Just wondering...

I can help you with the welding on those pipes, Uncleford.

As far as the stand, I would probably make it out of square tubing vs. round only because of speed of assembly. With square, you dont have to cope the ends just butt them up, tack'em together square and weld it off. A little primer and paint, as well as some adhesive backed rubber and you are good. Could go as far as buying the fancy little plastic tube caps but really thats just a cosmetic touch for marketing.

In his pic it looks as though he has one set up for casters next to it.... I think I would want a little wider base though if I was going to put my bike up on a stand on casters, as well as something to fasten it down to the cart... but not a bad idea.

Dlewis and I were talking about building a pair of these this week-end, while doing our valves and removing our Pair system. Dlewis also brought up square stock.

VTXROCKETEER WROTE:
The stand is 15 inches high, 18 inches wide and 24 inches long. This will fit all of the bike/atv jacks.

What size of stock would you suggest using?

I'm more concerned with functionality than cosmetic looks.

It just sounds like we (NE VTX'ers) have the means and the talent to be able to do this ourselves. I personally know what a welder looks like and have seen welding done, but am clueless about how to do it myself.

I just thought something like that stand would be very nice to do maintanence work on the bike.

I personally would not use anything less than 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" x 11 ga. wall and probably 10 ga or 7ga foot pads. This would be a piece of cake and would take no time at all. Let me know, we could set up a build and beer session at my shop (by Wahoo, NE) and knock them out one night or weekend... who likes to paint? LOL I think I have RED, BLUE, BLACK, YELLOW, LT GREY, AND POSSIBLY WHITE.

That sounds like a ton of fun. I have done some welding - way back 20 years ago when Heliarch was state of the art at the time. I would love to try my hand on these new TIG welders I see on TV all the time.

I'm up for it. I have no knowledge or skill at welding, so it looks like I'm the painter.

Just another opportunity for a meet and greet. :D

I'd be up for that. I'm an ok welder, but I'd probably just assist.

Called up Industrial Powder coat Spoke w/Lee Ray.

If we went with the color of the day (black, Blue, Silver ... what they have allready have setup) @ qty 10 (about) would be $6.25 Each :D

I would think you would save some $$$. The price I got was based on us using new steel (no rust or paint) and only prep they would have to do is a bath. Get your frame ready.

When do we want to start and whats the count?

Well, I would definately take a stand. Whenever is fine with me. I'm available most any weekend or weeknight. I will help out in any way I can. Obviously, I don't have any welding skills, but I can help out with anything else.

hey, I would be interested in helping, would like a stand myself but do not have access right now to a welder. it would be a great way to meet some of you. I live up in Wisner which is 26 miles east of Norfolk.

If you're going to build extra stands and sell them, I'd be interested in purchasing one. I can't weld and I probably can't make the beer-and- build session, but I'd buy one if you have extras for sale. I could pick it up on Tech Day, fasten it to the back of my bike and haul it home. It's not a problem if you're just going to build enough for yourselves ... time is tight for all of us. I'm getting ready to purchase my jack and I'm ready to start handling routine maintenance on my bike so I'm ready to purchase something stable that will elevate my bike and give me better access to it.

Just wondering how many people are interested in making a stand. If we get enough interest, it would be worth it to make some plans. I don't want to waste Mike's time if I am the only one that wants one. Add to this post if you want one.

A bike stand with locking caster's and tie down locations now that would be the ticket.
