I'm interested in getting a custom seat for my X, but am unsure. Do any of you have custom seats and if so, what kind? I am leaning towards the Mustang. My VT1100 only had the stock seat on it, which I never found uncomfortable. I haven't traveled long enough on my X to determine if it's seat needs to be replaced. But yesterday I got out my VT1100 to blow the dust off before a potential buyer dropped by and WOW! It felt like I was sitting on a pillow compared to my X.

I like the Corbins for looks, but I don't want to make a passenger suffer for the looks. I'm not sure how comfortable one would be long term. My friend's Corbin seat on his 800 Vulcan is like straddling a 2x4. I think the Ultimate is nice and probably very comfortable, but I can't get over that stitching. I don't like that at all.

I just wondered what everyone had, that way I can see those seats on a bike when I meet you, instead of trying to imagine what the seat would be like from pictures. By the way, I'm not into studs. I think bikes with studs look VERY nice, but my preference for my bike is to go with the non-stud look.

I installed the Ultimate Low Rider with Backrest (non-studded) a couple of weeks ago, and I'm glad I did. I thought the stock seat was uncomfortable; it felt like it had no foam at all in it. The Ultimate pushes me closer to the tank, which I didn't think I'd like the first time I sat in it, but after a couple of times, it felt very normal. But, it is the backrest that I'm really happy about. For the first time since I started riding two years ago, when I purchased a Rebel, I've felt really "connected" to the bike. I emphasize the word "connected" because it's the best way to describe my feeling as I ride the bike now ... I feel like I'm much more integrated with the bike. Here's the url to Ultimate's website

Have to agree with danX.... Installed my ultimate low rider a few weeks ago too. I love it!!! I have not had a chance to do any long rides with it yet but it is so much more comfortable than stock...... As far as the stitching goes.... I didn't like it much either but I figured.... can't see it when Im going down the road.

My Dad is looking for an 1100... I don't have email yet, so I'll check back in awhile. Thanks.

For longer rides a firmer seat is actually better for endurance. But only if that firm seat is a good fit for your posterior  I have a Corbin Solo and LOVE it, but I need a seat with a deep center due to having an odd tailbone. Also, you can get a good Corbin Pillion. But there are local guys that also have the Mustang and the Ultimate. If I were you I'd try to hook up and sit on each one and see which one has that 'cradle' feeling. You're welcome to sit on mine to see how it feels. I also have a Corbin backrest but don't keep it on very often.

Keep in mind that forward controls can also change the way a seat feels. When your legs are stretched your thighs take some of the weight off your rear. My L&R/Corbin combo is perfect for me.

I really like the look of the Corbin classic with the touring pillion, but I just couldn't get over the cost of those vs. the Mustang vintage. But I found a website that has the Mustang cheaper than HDL. Just today, I found a website that had the Corbin seat much lower than the other places that I had found. I would definately be interested in checking your seat out Robdogg.

You can always call HDL and tell them where you found the better price and they will beat it by 5% or $5.

You're welcome to check it out anytime. I was told by HDL that Thunder is boxing up the airkits finally so I'm hoping to have it by the end of next week. But.. we'll see..

Mustang, I Love it, the wife likes, but I still cheat I use a sheep skin as well.
600 miles no problem. It really depends how you ride. Ultimate Seats are very nice too. If like looks, got the cash, and don't tour - Corbin.
If don't care about having leather and you tour- Mustang. IF you want leather and tour - Ultimate.

Check the Ultimate Seat site. If you could take the time too read all the post about the Ultimate; I think you would find it to be the seat of choice.

I was unsure about an after market seat. I called and told them my fear. They sent me a test seat to try out. All I had to pay was the shipping. I was too send it back either way. I loved it. I got the 4 piece set.

The Ulimate Seat company was at the Colorado 2 - 4th of July ride last year.
And if you showed them a credit card you could try 1 of there seats for the period of the ride. They mounted it and took it off if you did not buy.

I purchased a custom seat from Diamond Seats. They don't advertise a seat for the VTX on their web site, but I saw another VTX owner with this seat on his bike during a poker run. Phoned the company, and spoke to a guy who assured me that I would be pleased.

I am.

longest ride (so far) with only gas stops was from Duluth to Omaha. 520+ miles. No butt ache.
