Hi...

CountryDave here. I'm in SW Iowa. I joined the site just a few days ago. I have a brother who will be joining in a few days, he also lives here in SW Iowa.

We are leaving Thursday for a ride to South Dakota and the Mt. Rushmore area with 3 other guys. Should be back next Monday or Tuesday, as no one can take more time off than that.

I've been finding lots of good info and topics here at VTXOA and glad that we now have an Iowa board of our own!

Cheers!

Hey Fellas,

Finally a place to plot and plan strategic offensive moves against the Illinois board members.

Hey Dave....we need to keep an eye out for the J&P cruise nights up in Anamosa. I went to the one last Tuesday night. Wasn't a big turnout but still a fun event. May be a good place to hook up with other X'ers. Met one 1300 rider from Marshaltown. Musta been 60-70 bikes and 20 or so cars. Good music...food....doorprizes...I bet attendance goes up next month as it gets warmer.

Ok....now.....about that thing we were talkin about doin to Spike and the Illinois crew.....I'm all for it.....do you think we can talk the Cops into it?

Hey Dave, Good Job, been waiting for an Iowa Board. Anyways, Hello to all my fellow Iowa Xers from North Central Iowa. Dave just rode through your neck of the woods the other night. Stopped into the I-80 truckstop just in time to miss the nastiest weather as it went through. After 4000 mi trip I didn't hit any really bad weather until I got back to Iowa.

Sounds like a great trip. I was going to ride to Kanab Utah to meet up with a couple hundred Vulcan riders I've been hangin with the last 5 years but since our 25th anniversary is that same week my wife said it would be a VERY costly trip if I went.....can you believe that????

Sooo... we're gonna meet up with the local (Mostly Chicago) crew in Boscobel Wis. the weekend of June 19th then head up to the North Shore of Superior. At least we'll still be on the bike.

Sioux City. New rider this year. Lots of great info on the board. Hope to meet some of you soon. If anyone is in the area we have a weekend rally on Friday June 17th and Saturday June 18th in the historic district. Would love to have some fellow X'ers show up!! Rally used to be Awesome Harley Nights until last year when the dealer really screwed up. Now goes by Awsome Biker Nights. Lots of venders and proceed go to St. Florian Fire and Burn Unit.

I used to live in Iowa, does that count? My dad has an X as well and lives in Humboldt Iowa, he's a trucker and does not understand computers so he won't be posting anything. He does attened the 4th of July rally in Algona every year and usually hangs out with Mike in the Blue Bus (Leather Smith). It's good to see Iowa finally made the grade and got a spot on our web site.

Hey Dave - Thanks for getting an Iowa Board going, it's greatly appreciated! I was beginning to think there wasn't any other X riders here in Iowa.

Hey Everyone Else - Glad to see some more X riders! Are there any riders in the Des Moines area? I live in Perry, 30 miles Northwest of D.M.
Anytime you guys want to go for a ride, let me know.

Wifey and Me just did the Dav/Belleview/Dubuque/Galena/Dav run yesterday. Ended up down behind THE MARK where we hooked up with our oldest son and his gal on her parents 28 ft. BAJA type boat, can't remember the brand, but it had a 426 HO in it, sounded cool.

I think I shot myself outta the water for the 14th. Going on vacation that friday so I bid all my time early in the week and think I'll be outta town.
If I ain't workin...I'll be at J&P weather permitting.

Hello fellow Iowa X riders. I've been lerking on the VTXOA Board for quite awhile. Not much of a poster. Glad to see we finally have a state board.
I'm in the Des Moines area, near Saylorville and Big Creek lakes. We have three 1800 C models in the garage, Candy Red, Illususion Blue, and Uranium Green. I'll try and keep up with posts on this board and hope we can get together with some other Iowa X'ers. We are planning on attending the Honda Homecoming in July and participate in the WORLD RECORD!

My first post. I have been lurking around here for a while reading all the excellent advice. My VTX is just 6 weeks old and is replacing my first bike a 91 Nighthawk 750. WOW what a difference. I will post pics soon but have debadged her as well as added the clock to the speedo and a 12 V cig receptacle to the front of the bike for my GPS and XM radio. I live in Cedar Rapids and am always looking for a reason to go riding.

I have the Ultimate Big boy 4 piece set.
I love the driver's backrest, but it takes away room if both you and your passenger are bigger, I sometimes take it off if I'm going to have a passenger. With a small passenger, or if you don't sit with it all of the way back you should be fine.
I realy like the seat, I bought direct from Ultimate.
I realy didn't shop around much, just went off of the word from here. Most also like their mustangs, but I've never ridden with one.
Any passengers I've had also realy liked it. Never had a complaint :D

Hello,
CRUSH and I have been part of the VTXOA since 02/02. Purchased her on 02/28/02 and rode her home in the snow, which stayed for 3 weeks.
I have meet up with a few Iowa riders, was the first Iowa rep on the Kings site, and enjoy riding.
I live in Des Moines, and have only ran across a few X Riders here.
I am down now, OWI, back on the road in Sept. Then I have a tire to flame. I rode out 3 rear Metzlers last year, and 2 front.
Even rode to Peoria IL on Christmas day and rode home 2 weeks later this last Jan.
LOVE THE X.

Hi everyone

Have been following the tech board for about a year, just discovered this one. As you can see from my profile, I'm from the Missouri River side. Yes, there is more Iowa west of DM.

I ride quite a lot, about 10,000 miles this summer so far. I ride mostly on weekends, hardly ever just to work, almost never in town, almost never in NE (helmet state), on the interstates only under extreme need. Almost always on two-lane blacktops. Usually fast. I'll take a road just to see where it goes. Don't use a map much. Think nothing of riding a couple of hundred miles for a good meal, (I weigh in at 300). My favorites are: Hickory Park in Ames, Arthur Bryant's in KC, and the Main St. Grill in Atlantic. I can do 700 miles in one day, stopping only for gas, no problem. Thanks to the Ultimate Bigboy and Progressive 440 HD's.

I'm soon to be 57 years old, and have had a motorcycle of one kind or another since I was 18. I have two grandchildren which I love dearly, and it makes me afraid every time I throw my leg over a bike, and I thank God every time I pull back into the driveway, home safe. I'm a very lucky man, never been hurt too bad on a bike and when I was it was usually my own fault. I've learned.

A couple of us are doing the entire loess hills this weekend, from Akron to Hamburg. Not sure whether it's going to be Saturday or Sunday. Some of them are concerned about the temp, so haven't decided.

I'd be happy to meet and ride with anyone, type of bike doesn't matter. My youngest son has a 1300C, but he's moved to Colorado Springs, so I lost one of my ridin' buddies. My other son doesn't have a bike of his own, but doesn't mind putting a few miles on my Valk. I have taught both of them to ride in the last year, and it gave me a new lease on life.

Give me a holler if you're in the area. I'll be sure and follow this board in the future.

Later, Mike

Hi, I'm in Council Bluffs. Just across the river from the "DARKSIDE".

I recently bought a leftover 2004 vtx1800r. It's illusion blue and still stock. I'm still getting my bike legs back. So far I'm limiting myself to the streets of C.B. This is the first bike I have ridden in 25 years. Definitely the biggest!!

Take care all. :)

I live in Carson, Ia. and just bought a new (05) 1800R, 2 weeks ago in Des Moines. Still on the break-in side of things, so will be a little while before I try any long rides.
The bike is dark red,and so far I've added a Memphis Shades windshield and a crash guard. Will be looking at and listening to other bikes and their riders, before I add much more.
Haven't had a bike for a few years, and so with the kids out of the house (OH yeah, the wive is gone too), I decided to get a new ride. What little time has been spent on my new bike has been great, so far and I'm looking for many hours of great riding.
Anyone around my area, look me up and we can share the road for a few miles. Ron

Welcome Ron, there really isn't a true break in period for the X, but that being said there is a thought that a new engine should be run through the different rpm ranges for about the first 600 miles or so.

You really have a great bike there , the shield and the bars were my first two mods as well, the third one was risers off of a C model, you can pick them up off the Classified board here for a pretty reasonable amount. I always felt as I was reaching for the handle bars and that was one of the best mods I have done,

Another thing you will probably need is a different seat, or to get yours modified,, I have the Ultimate Lowrider on mine. Maybe we can meet up somewhere this summer and you can look at the things I've done with my bike to make it more comfortable. Hey and you did pick the right (fast) color.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have,,

Take Care, Ray

Hey guys,
I'm from Maryland, but moving to Cedar Rapids soon - used to live there...
In Maryland I started a forum called www.mdxiles.com (http://www.mdxiles.com) to give our state more of an identity and organization. When I come to Iowa in the next 6 months or so, I'd be happy to set up a new board just for Iowa. Everyone in MD seems to really like it - it really does help. I have a lot of computer/web design experience and love to be involved in the group. So just let me know if ya'll like the idea. Check out our board so you can see what I can do.

Thanks,
John

Hoping to ride with you guys real soon!
