Welcome to the New England Forum
Since our borders are all within a short days ride of each other I am hoping this forum will make it easier for all of us New Englanders to get together for rides and conversation.
Please be considerate of other clubs and people and refrain from bashing.

Was a good ride Koboti, I did about 220 miles from here. We got a few drops of water on us up on Route 2 but the black ugly clouds just missed us so we didn't get really wet.
Lots of great roads in MA and CT yesterday, some I had seen some I hadn't.
We basically headed to Oxford through Douglas area, then 12N-56N-122N-2W-112S-20E-220/10S (into CT... then some back roads to 190E-197E and finished with some more back roads to Uxbridge, including Douglas State Park.

Thanks for the forum - hopefully this works out great for us! I'm looking at the weather forecast and looks like sunshine is finally going to be the norm!

Sunshine? What's that?
Now we need to plan a NH ride, I might be inclined to spend a night at Dolly Copp or some other campground up there! Maybe right after black fly season though....
Glad you like the new forum.

Black flies don't bite, they suck! Actually up north we've adopted the black fly as the state bird!

Nothing like hanging around in the woods slathered in DEET with little drops of blood just dripping down your arms and legs.
Vicious little bastages!
How are they this year? With all this wet I would think pretty bad...

looking up to be a deet summer - they are all out in force - maybe it just seems bad since we've been without them for a couple months, but I sure didn't miss them - at least my X can outrun them!

All this rain has pulled out the bird sized Skeeters here in VT as well. These thing are almost half the size of thier Alaskan cousins

Tried to get up into southern VT yesterday but we had a little bit of a late start so ended up sticking to MA. Maybe a good thing!

I thought June Bugs were the NH state bird? I had one of those almost knock me off my scoot in Loudon last year.

Nah - we just call june bugs appetizers - good protein, easy to digest when they splatter into your mouth at 50mph!
Ux VTX
05-31-2005, 11:33 PM
Hell, a junebug in the mouth at 50MPH will provide an instant tonsilectomy! LOL. In my more adventurous days I caught one on my bare chest at 110MPH and thought I was shot! LOL. Actually I saw that critter coming for about a half a mile in slow motion... WHUMP!!! Wheeze.... (sound of VTwin decellerating...)
:D

NE VTX RIDERS IRON BUTT? By the way, as was pointed out to me: NE VTX Riders sounds like "Any VTX Riders", I like that.
So ya think we should hit all states in one day? Being from MA, right here in the middle, I wouldn't propose such a thing! LOL. But I would definately be there!
Let's see... Newport RI to Bar Harbor should do! Whaddya think, 14 hours by secondary highway? Maybe once we leave RI we should follow the line of the Appalachian trail... now that would be a ride... Western CT, Western MA, Southern VT, and ups and downs all over NH and ME. Of course that would end in the shadow of Katahdin!
The New England Appalachian Trail VTX Blowout. Yeah... NEAT_VTX.

following the AT via roads would be a sweet ass ride...i hiked from ny/ct boarder up into vt about 6 years agow and had a blast.i bet this trip wouldent tahe a month and a half though.

It is an interesting thought... let's say you try to find every road crossing on the AT... that would be many many miles. I think just a close approximation would be fun though.
AT goes through lots of notches: Crawford, Pinkham, Franconia, Grafton, Mahoosuc (can't ride through), Evans...
Hmmm.... a dozen or more VTXers stopping on the side of the road in Evans notch for a dip in Emerald Pool in August would be pretty wild...

There already is an All New England Ride. Starts at Cycle Design in Ma. See the mass riders web site for details. As a matter of fact it is this week end 6/4.

Yeah, July is coming up fast! Lots of work stuff through the end of July, then Marysville -> SD -> CO -> NH until the second week of August.
Nova Scotia sounds nice and would like to make it back up there sometime, but like some others on this board, I am not allowed in the 'Great White North' anymore...
Anyway, with 2+ months to plan, we can probably scratch something together.
Would a 'central' start location work better than picking people up along the way?
Long day? or long weekend? Anyone know of 'biker friendly' camping areas in Maine?

Being that I am from MA, a resident of NH since 95, and that I will be on transition leave for retirement from the Army, and that I will be in the area in Aug. I will keep an eye on the board for this ride. Sounds interesting
