Roger,
Sorry to hear about your housing dilema. That sux.
On the gas mileage thing...I know it goes up and down depending on how overactive ones wrist can be but mine averages about 40 mpg which has the car beat by quite a bit at 28mpg. I suppose though when you factor in the cost of tires, service, etc. the car is still cheaper to run.
I remember when I started this thread that only a few months before gas was at about $1.65'ish. I don't think I ever captured the post Katrina prices that went upwards of $3.50'ish either. I get the sinking feeling that we will see that price again...and soon.

Now WHO in the heck would delete and resubmit their post just to get it to the top of the list? Agreed, that would be a sign of a very insecure individual. Thanks for pointing out what a low-life tactic that is.
More to the topic: Local gas prices are a lot more relevant to me than the ones across the country. Of course if you do look across the country it gives you a better picture of gas gouging and the corruptness of the current administration but that is definately a topic for the OTB.
No idea what I am paying Hondo... I just plug in the card and pump, it keeps my stress levels lower.

I have no idea who you are talking about and it's probably just as well. I see a couple of people doing it, but not a state coordinator....myself included, at times.
What strikes me as silly about talking about gas prices on a motorcycle board is that chances are good you're riding your motorcycle for pleasure, not work....so if the gas prices are that prohibitive, I guess you need to stay home and go for a walk....
And even if the price varies by 10 cents a gallon, on a five gallon tank, that's fifty cents.
Do 400 miles in a day and break even by skipping a coffee....

I don't know how to say this without prolonging this silliness but... YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING! I can't remember (and didn't accuse) you specifically doing it but I have seen on many occasions the Grand Fubar doing it. As for other's I don't know b/c I don't usually look for it. I am a bit slow b/c it took me a while to figure out how the "NEVTX.com" group rides all kept rising to the top with no new replies.

Reposting other crap?
That's your pal....not mine....
Ux VTX
08-24-2006, 12:29 AM
Yes, he's my pal... but what did he repost?
I know Hondo... he'll skip 5 gas stations to get to one that saves him 3 cents per gallon... so this is pertinent information to him and to me b/c I benefit following his lead on these occasions.
And as to saving only a dime per tank... you go ahead and think that way. I wouldn't go out of my way to save a dime but I would go out of my way to endorse a vendor that consistently provides a product at less margin to it's customers. BTW: There are whole web sites (and a section on AAA.com) that are dedicated to showing where the cheapest gas can be had - why is that?
Bumping (however sneakily by a self-admitted [proclaimed?] "official") a post that has dropped down to the (OMG!) 3rd or 4th post when the readership of the forum knows of at least 3 other places to find the same exact information adds a heck of a lot less new information than an updated local price of gas.
Hondo812
08-24-2006, 09:44 AM
In the past week and a half I have seen gas in central CT averaging $3.30 per gallon while finding some closer to home for $2.85. That's a $0.45 per gallon difference and that is significant. I suspect that gas in NH is down in the $2.70's and quite frankly that would influence to a certain degree where I choose to ride.
This is not a knock on CT at all as I truly enjoy the roads over there, however, I also enjoy the roads thoughout New England and if it's cheaper this weekend to go to NH then it's a safe bet that's where I will be going.

Thanks for the link and the update Oakala. You too Judi.
Brockton as a destination? I dunno...but there is lots of good riding in nearby Halifax, Kingston, Whitman, etc. Seems to me it can make a convienient meeting spot for a SE Mass ride. Just use your imagination.
roadstargirl
08-28-2006, 11:24 PM
There are some absolutely awesome rides in the Halifax area...I would know, I used to live there.
Meeting in Brockton? Why would ya?
I work in downtown Brockton and in the two years I've worked there, three people have been killed in front of our business....half a block from the gas station I mentioned.
NO WAY would I ask someone to meet me there.
Not convenient to highways, no cultural elements to amuse you on the ride into Brockton, and a good 75% of the drivers don't speak English or have a valid license...and probably less than half are insured.
So why in the name of God would you want to meet there? Just to say you did it and lived? To look at the hooker on Main Street? Or maybe to watch a drug deal go down?
If I use my imagination about Brockton as a meeting place, it quickly turns into a nightmare....
But thanks for the heads up about what you might consider appropriate, good to know.
Now, asking someone to meet me at the Exxon station at exit 8 off Route 495 and taking 123 to Route 106 towards Halifax....well, that's more my style. Oh yeah, and then 106 to 105, circle back through the twin lakes in Middleboro and end up on Furnace Brook in Plymouth to downtown...NOW WE'RE TALKING.
But Brockton? Bad choice all the way around...
And yeah, if I put together a ride like that, you can bet your bottom dollar I'd bump it to the top over a gas thread. Otherwise the easily bored could miss it.

I don't share your fear of Brockton RSG. I grew up 2 towns over and spent much of my youth in Brockton. I took classes over at Massasoit in the late 80's and early 90's and survived quite fine. I took the MREP over at Massasoit a few years ago and again "escaped" unscathed.
Now towns like Halifax or Rochester...those scare me.
roadstargirl
08-31-2006, 01:22 PM
I currently LIVE two towns over.
Brockton is another world.
Those who work here and grew up here tell me that it's changed a lot.
The cop I'm friends with echoes that sentiment and calls my company "the Eden of North Main Street."
Like I said, three murders in front of my building in the last two years. Not cool by anyone's standards. We have a steady stream of people who want to shoot up in our parking lot, despite video cameras. There are usually about five hookers on the corner at lunch time, many of them pregnant, most of them young, and all of them strung out on crack or heroin...I'm not educated enough about drugs to know which it is. There are drug deals on the corner, and the cops use our stairways to video tape activities out there on the street.
There are areas of Brockton that are still full of nice houses....but there are no gas stations in those neighborhoods. The gas stations are where the dense population is....and that's where the crime is, too.
When I first started working here, I was unaware of the local "culture". Now after developing relationships with the cops because they want copies of our security tapes, I know better...and NOW I see it. Before I didn't suspect anything and was blind to it, I guess.
I looked at the demographics recently for Brockton, well over 50% of the residents live below the poverty level. Where there is poverty, there is crime. There is a large population of immigrants, most of them illegal.
Of the 13000 houses in Brockton that are owner occupied, (roughly 50%) only 423 are assessed at more than $250,000. Average price of a house in Massachusetts is now set at $360,000 or close to that. The drop out rate from school is 33%. (These figures are from the Brockton, MA home page, figures are from the city records.)
Last year there were 700 burlargies, almost 2000 B&Es, 200 robberies, 1800 assaults, 2000 charges of larceny, and 1000 cars stolen. Figures on the police web site show a consistent pattern since 1993. I've got no idea what it was when you lived here....but in a town of 90,000, those figures are pretty aggressive. If you think about the figures, it's three stolen cars per day, seven larcenies, 5 assaults per day.....You get the picture.
It's not a pretty picture and it kind of surprised me. I figured with the real estate market what it has been for the last six or seven years, that urban renewal would have hit Brockton sooner or later. Now the real estate boom is going away and Brockton sits as it was.
roadstargirl
08-31-2006, 02:06 PM
By the way, I think I have a very clear impression of what Brockton is like....I listen to sirens ALLLLLL DAY LOOOOOOOONG. Can't even talk on the phone if I have the windows open, people ask what is going on in the background (ie vendors, etc.)
By the way, the national average per 100,000 are as follows:
murders 5.5 (8 in Brockton)
rapes 32 (there were 44 in Brockton last year, 66 the previous year)
robberies 137 (200 in Brockton)
assaults 291 (1800 in Brockton!!!)
larceny 2365 (2000 in Brockton)
motor vehicle larceny 421 (1000 in Brockton)
burglaries 729 (2000 in Brockton)
And Brockton is 10% small than the average used for the national figures...with a population of 90,000.....

I just heard that rumor this morning also. I hope it is true. Sad that we are excited to see prices at $2.00 and think that is cheap HA HA
Although I'm sure someone will bring up the fact that in Europe it is almost $7 a gallon and we should be thankful! :o

Find the cheapest prices here:
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/gasprice ... ndex.shtml (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/gasprices/states/index.shtml)
By zip code here:

From the government web page:
Retail regular gasoline prices are projected to average $2.72 per gallon in 2006, and $2.67 in 2007 (Gasoline and Crude Oil Prices). Summer 2006 (April 1 to September 30) regular gasoline pump prices are expected to average $2.92 per gallon, 55 cents higher than last year's average of $2.37 per gallon.
It's like legalized gambling this time of year, deciding when to sign that contract for fuel oil....Someone at work told me that they heard on the radio that prices are supposed to continue to slip between now and Thanksgiving, but I can't find anything that proves that...
And Brockton still sucks.

And again........$2.65 - $2.67 in the Tilton area.
Now if the rain would just leave so I could take advantage of those prices!!
Few weeks back we were right around $3.00. So my math works this way:
4 gallons at $2.65, I am saving $0.35 per gallon. This gives me an extra $1.40 in my pocket, wich equates to one medium coffee from Dunkin's !!!!
I don't care if it is cold......I just want the rain to go away.

I promise to send a dollar bill to anyone who cannot afford to ride because gas is up, say, 20 cents a gallon....and you have a five gallon tank.
I can't help with the rain unfortunately..
