What do you think of this?
Ride Main Map Page (http://www.avail-consulting.net/images/VTX/roadtrips/August/AT_Ride_files/AT_Ride.htm)
If you have Streets and Trips you can download and play around with the file here:
Map File Download (http://www.avail-consulting.net/images/VTX/roadtrips/August/AT_Ride_files/AT_Ride_files/AT_Ride.est)
The AT map that I used to plot this is available here:

Others more familiar with the North Country can probably add more insight into places of interest, camping, must-see areas, etc. (chime in!)

Holy cow! 600 miles huh? Ok, that would require a good long weekend... don't forget the Northerners would have to get here to start and the southerners would have to get home.
It's a great start for the planning, I wonder how many people would be able to put the time together to do this in one shot.
It would be one beatiful ride...

Hey, you started this crazy idea!
NE VTX RIDERS IRON BUTT? By the way, as was pointed out to me: NE VTX Riders sounds like "Any VTX Riders", I like that.
So ya think we should hit all states in one day? Being from MA, right here in the middle, I wouldn't propose such a thing! LOL. But I would definately be there!
Let's see... Newport RI to Bar Harbor should do! Whaddya think, 14 hours by secondary highway? Maybe once we leave RI we should follow the line of the Appalachian trail... now that would be a ride... Western CT, Western MA, Southern VT, and ups and downs all over NH and ME. Of course that would end in the shadow of Katahdin!
The New England Appalachian Trail VTX Blowout. Yeah... NEAT_VTX.

LOL!!! I fully realize that! :o I was just surprised to see the mileage from S&T.
Was thinking out loud about the logistics of it, 2 FULL days of riding with room on either end (or at least one end) for folks to "get home".
Of course there could also be pick up points on the way for people wanting to just do part of it.
This sounds like something that would require a t-shirt design for! I did the NEAT on my X! Or sumthin' like that! :-)
I would say early- to mid-August is better, late August is the last blast for those with kids to have a weekend before school starts....

Yeah, 2 hours is about the same for me, ME to home is about 7+hrs. I was up at The Forks last year for a rafting trip.
The times in there are bogus. I just put in 7a-10pm. There are also scheduled 15 min stops every 2 hrs.

Sounds like a great ride guys. I'd love to join in, probably the best for me is at the VTNH border (where I-89 and I-91 cross), might be a good place for a lunch break and others to join the group since there is great access to lodging, roads and eats there. The Route 2 run should be great, not much traffic up there, except for truckers and the occasional RV.

Start the ride in Masquamicut Beach RI and we can hit all New England states in one ride. :wink:
Done.
:D
Map / route info has been updated.
We should come up with 4-5 meet up points along the way. Don't want this to be too organized, but we should be able to hit the targets within 30mins or so.
RI= Masquamicut Beach RI
CT= Cornwall/Wallingford area?
MA=??????????
VT = Bennington & Woodstock?
NH= Hanover area?
I would be able to make it down to RI to start (only ~2+hrs for me), but others may be turned off by the back-tracking or 4+hr trip down.
Anyone know of 'easy' landmarks along this path that would work? I'm not terribly familiar with CT (other than passing through).
Any 'locals' come up with better ones? They should be easy to find, have some facilites i.e gas/bathrooms, etc. not 'the 3rd Cumberland farms on main st.' :lol: Parks, ice cream stands, lunch spots, monuments, maybe??

I know it's not exactly on the AT but folks I ride with go on and on about VT 100 being one of the best roads in New England.
As to starting at the beach in Southern RI, I can tell you it can be something of a pain to get around anywhere near RT 1. I would be curious if any of the RI folks have any suggestions.

Rte. 100 IS a great ride. Now that work is out of the way on weekends for a bit, I am actually doing a big NH / VT loop this weekend or next, and that was a planned road.
Playing around with S&T shows no gain or loss in mileage as far as going Rte. 100 North. It would be nice to shave a few miles off this to get it under 12 hrs in a day.

I am clueless about most things, but especially RI. Hardly ever go there, as I don't have any reason to.
Anyone? Is there a better area to start in RI?

Masquamacut is within 10 miles or so of the CT border, so even if there is traffic we would (hopefully going against the traffic instead of with it. As for rt 100 in VT that is pretty good. How far up to take it. If we go to Rt 4 then cut east we miss the best 10 miles on 100. There is an area called Granville Gulch, it is the best riding on 100, IMHO. If we take 100 N to I-89 then I-89 to Montpelier we could hook onto Hwy 302 all the way to Portland, ME.

in my oppinion we should stick with the at ride...if someone wants to put together a all ne ride then that should be something els.
also going further up rt 100 about 80 miles just to hit 10 miles of good riding on rt 100 seems wrong since we would miss out on riding rt 112 aka kangamangus to ride rt 302.
just my 2 cents

The Kank is hurting. Humungous potholes.
As for Rt 100. It would be adding 80 miles of good road for 10 miles of fantastic riding :wink:

Not to come off sounding like a smartass but if this is just an AT ride you should probably leave RI off the route, no?
What I can tell you is pretty simple....plan it and they will come. I was just tossing out ideas. Doesnt mean we have to use them.

Good point. :oops: Although it's not really that 'out of the way'. Would be nice to do all NE states in the same shot.

Well, I am not a very good 'planner', so keep tossing out the ideas, guys!
I didn't know about the Kanc being in bad shape. Maybe we should redirect?

I drive and ride Rt 7 all the time to visit my daughter in Bennington, for the most part it is straight and it pass' through the home turf of Constable Nelson Tift. This man has been honored for the past 15+ years for the most citations written by a LEO in Vermont. The guy who is #2 don't even come close :wink:

i road the kangamangus this week from rt 10 to rt 16 it is a old road and they are doning construction on it. if we do go up rt 100 to 89 to 302 we should then go 16 to rt 2 rather then all the way to portland via rt 302

So it sounds like VT 100 is a go then?
Destination Portland? or Baxter St. Park/Katahdin?
To camp or not to camp?
1 REALLY long day or 2-3 decent days with an overnight in the Whites and/or N. Maine area?
Personally, I could probably take either a friday or monday to make this a long weekend, so it doesn't matter either way to me.
I see some interest from some folks up North and some down South. We are going to need meeting places for those that can't do it from start to finish.
Sledman, Can you suggest a meeting place around 89/91 area?
Dave, where would you be coming from?
Also, this will be a week or two after about a 2+ week/6k ride for me, so I am hoping I won't be too saddlesore. :wink:
Others that are interested, please chime in!

Hmmm... me Dave? LOL, I have been kinda outta reading this lately. Leaving for Nova Scotia Saturday and trying to line a job up for when I get back (I did! I did!) Money is good.
Well, I am in Uxbridge MA, right on the RI border so if I have to I will drop down one state for 5 minutes to get all 6! :)
Is it time to set a weekend? I think early August is best, as August closes down kid responsabilities pick up with school coming.
I vote for some camping, cheap is good.
Sorry I have been a little abesnt lately...

I am rolling back into NH on the 10th or so from a 2 week road trip, so for me the weekend of the 20th is better, but I could probably pull it off if it was the 13th.
Camping is cool, just need to get gear organized.
How many takers do we have?

Sorry to chime in again so late. Nate, The AT actuall tracks throught hanover and Orford. There are great places to meet in the jucntion of 89.91 area. If coming in from woodstock/rutland on 4 there are several hotel parking lots to meet in. If the plan is to head for Hanover and out toward Orford, Plymouth, past the Squam lakes and onto ME, we could meet at the local Honda shop located just off I-89 (about 3 exits from where route 4 runs into I-91.) That would put us on Route 10 headed into Hanover.
There are also some large strip mall parking lost in the junction area. Probably the best thing to do is let me know the inbound and out bound routes and guess at the number of riders and i can pick a spot and if need be let the folks know we are coming.

I did RT100 in VT earlier this summer from bottom to top and back. SUPER NICE! :D :D
I did a quick jaunt across rt 2 in NH and the western part of ME. Definitely worth the trip!!
Doing all of this across 2 days???

can you beleve that baxter state park in maine home of mt katadin is off limits to motorcycles.
after a 2 day ride through VT NH and ME i found myself on the long road from mininocket to baxter state park.i slow down, did i just see a sign saying no bikes????cant be right... i get to the ranger station and low and behold another sign. ranger said i got bad news for you.no motorcycles have been let into the park since the 50s.
after pleading my case for a good ten minute to no avail.i decide that its not the destanation . its the journey. so i force myself to change moods and journey on home.
the riding was awesome had a ball but still dont understand how a state park,one that tax paying motorcycle rides help pay for,can exclude a vehical that gets metter gas milage and better emissions the half of thies SUVsbecause of some lod arcaic provission...
pardon my last outburst the DR. said the pills should have kicked in by now. :wink:
