Info for anyone planning to ride the Beartooth highway in Wyoming... change your plan! It's been closed indefinately due to 13 serious mud/debris slides. Probably closed for the season.

I am taking off on a 8 day 3300 mile trip on June 27th up through Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Nevada and then back home to California and was totally bummed out to hear that Bear Tooth Pass is closed all year. :(

You can still ride 30 miles of the Beartooth Hwy. About 15 miles are blocked off. I rode it last week and it is still worth the trip. Ride up and back down. Pased two cars on the way back down. The closure has really cut down on the traffic. :D

Just got home a couple of hours ago. Hair under 4000 miles in 9 days. Yellowstone was the greatest. Whole plan was to ride Beartooth just for the ride. Ran into heavy road work a little ways out of Yellowstone. Went around to Red Lodge and rode up as far as I could. Already planning for a return trip next year. I'll check the road conditions before I leave next time. Got to meet Paul Teutle "Senior" in Cody Wy. Not the jerk I expected. I covered Or. Id. Wy. Mt. Wa. Now I'm getting serious about a seat. Still riding stock, that I've modified a little. Any ideas. I tried a friends mustang and it made me feel like I was on top of the tank?

I just bought a mustang seat with the adjustable backrest. I noticed the seat is more comfortable when riding and not so good when sitting still. I finally realized that the awkward feel when sitting still was because the seat tilts you back. If you lean forward slightly the awkward feeling goes away. The seat really redistributes your weight so you feel almost nothing on the tailbone and the areas of the behind that usually take the roughest ride. You can't check the seat out without riding the bike.

Which seat did you get? I think I was on the standard seat with backrest.

I got the Mustang two-piece Driver Backrest Sport Touring Seat. It was MS-79301. You remove your old seat, and also remove the U shaped rear seat bracket. Pretty simple.
