What exactly are we supposed to post on this board? Long trips we have been on? Or Long trips we are going on. Or any and all of the above?

Just wondering.

Anything to do with long distance riding: past, present or future.

 Just make sure you don't include the "H----Y" word in your post, or it'll end up on the OTB.  So, I recommend, if you took a long ride with guys and/or gals on another brand which claims it's THE American scooter, then say it that way vs. the other.

On a lighter note, I guess the longest rides for me and Mrs. P thus far was trailering down to Lake City, FL, then scooting down the entirety of the West coast, over to Miami and then down to Key West and then back to Miami, up the East coast to just north of Melbourne and then back up to Lake City, this was a 5 day trip. It was probably a tad longer on average per day(but, I'm not sure) than our trailering out to Snakebite's in Borger, TX then up to Denver, untrailering for 6-7 days and doing some 1600 miles in the Rockies before reloading and heading back to GA.

Or long trips we would like to go on.

I'd love to go up the coast of Maine, take the ferry to Nova Scotia, and return by way of New Brunswick thru Calais, ME, and follow Rt 1 down the coast back home again. Southern Maine isn't too far from here, so I wouldn't have to go far just to get started. Another would be a round trip to Montreal. Or Montreal to Quebec city and back.

Real Iron Butt riding, however, involves long distance in relatively short time, like Boston to St. Louis in one day, or coast-to-coast in 3 days. There's whole organizations built up around that kind of riding, with competitions, rules, awards, official recognition, etc, etc.

My longest was 600 in one day and 1400 in four days. Guess I'm only a leather butt instead of iron.

My longest was 600 in one day and 1400 in four days. Guess I'm only a leather butt instead of iron. The first day of our trip out west last year was about 600 miles. I like that "Leather Butt" term. But my BUTT was more like "Worn Out Butt"! But I have no regrets. I LOVED every mile!

My very first ride on the X was 240 miles from the dealer to home. That was a heck of a break in for a butt that has not sat the saddle for 5 years. I was a little numb in places, but enjoyed the entire ride.

Actually the worst part of that ride was the 20+ mph wind I was riding straight into at 60+ mph. Anymore and I just could not take the pounding it was delivering to my chest.

Heya Thundering Zephyr,

That's a misconception about the IBA runs.

They do have shorter challenges (the SaddleSore, 1K in <24 hours and the BunBurner 1.5K in <36 hours) http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm?DocID=1. Sure, an 18 hour trip isn't easy (1K miles at 65 MPH) but I have three friends who've done it in the last month on business trips!

I'm working on the National Parks Tour right now. Visit at least 50 parks in at least 25 states within 12 months http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm?DocID=11. Right now it looks like it'll take me 12 travel days divided across three trips to cover 28 states. I plan to cover a big junk of that on the way to the VTX Homecoming.

My $0.02 worth.

Mine was almost 200 miles with 2 miles on the odometer in the middle of January 04. the sun was shining, temp of 51 when I left the dealers, low 30's & dark when I pulled into the driveway. And this being after 21 years of not having a motorcycle. It came back quick, but that was a real chilly ride.

Looks like I can post then!!!

Just got back two weeks ago riding solo from Chicago to San Francisco...took I80 west going out, stopped in Ogallala, NE the first night, stayed over at my mother's in Loveland, CO for the next day and a half, rode to Wendover, NV and stopped the third night, and made it into the Bay Area at 5pm on the fourth day.

Return trip was a bit quicker....left the Bay Area Wed. at 7:30am and arrived back in Chicago Friday evening at 8:30pm. Rough ride though...cold, windy, rode through that last set of storms that blew through Rockies & Plains which dumpedsnow in CO!!

First night stopped in Salt Lake City, UT...second night was in Ogallala, NE again, and was home the third night.

I Left Chicago with 5100 miles on the X...came home with 10,500!! Only problems I had were a sore neck and shoulders, and I lost one of the four bolts on the way out from off the front fender. Other than that...the X ran flawlessly!!!!!

Doing this ride, and doing it solo had been one of my dreams for years...I'm glad I waited to do it on the X!!!!

Part of me wishes I had gone through the requirements to document it and get my Iron Butt related stuff...part of me knows that I don't need they're certificates for my accomplishment to be acknowledged!

BTW - Just in case....to the two Utah State Troopers that nailed me coming out of the Salt Lake Pass at 115mph...thanks for letting me go!!! hehehehehe

8) Hey T-BoneX...I think you take the cake so far!
I flew up to Missouri from New Orleans to pick my X up from the dealer, then rode it home...0-750 miles exactly as I pulled into the drive!!
Very sore butt, shoulders, neck, but a well broke in X :D

Couple weeks ago I went to the Republic of Texas rally for 4 days of riding in the hill country. Had 1700 additional miles when I got home!

Got a few of the Louisiana X'ers talking about a 1000 miler in 24hrs. !!

Its funny you should say that, Starting August first, me and three other guys are leaving Central NY to go up to Nova Scotia. Havent got details on what way we are going yet, but we have planned it since november of last year... I can't wait. we plan on doing 450 miles the first day alone. Just about everyday will be the same for about 9 days in total. I know I have 10 days of vacation I am using for it, so it will be 9 days at least. The others I am riding up with are retired.
