TTT,
Some advice from one who makes the run along I-70 from Wilson to St Louis regularly. Take I-270 around St Louis and avoid it between 4 PM and 7 PM. Same with KC if possible. Gas up before you leave the St Louis area, as there are not many good stops between St Louis and Columbia. Watch for road construction in Missouri on I-70. If you hit it, you may be able to get off on a paralleling road and not lose any time, especially west of Columbia. There is some construction on I-70 in Kansas, lane closings between Salina and KC and between Salina and Hays, but the delays are minimal.
If you have a moment, stop by an see me on the way. Wilson is at MM 206 on I-70, about halfway between Salina and Hays and just 2 miles south. I'll be heading out on Friday the first, so I should see you in Colorado.

Adding to what Scarecrow said;"Take I-270 around St Louis and avoid it between 4 PM and 7 PM." Take the I-370 off of I-270. You bypass the 70/270 exchange and the big shopping mall. There's a BP at the 79 Hwy exit just west of where 370 & 70 join up on the west side of greater St Louis. In KC I-70 construction is prevalant and the traffic is terrible during rush hour. Good luck and ride free. :D

TTT,
Streets & Maps suggests your trip is over 1K. Are you doing this as an IBA run? If so, the rules and paperwork are available here http://www.ironbutt.com/ridecerts/getdocument.cfm?DocID=1.

Watch for cops on 70 between I-55 and Mississippi river in Illinois. High enforcement zone and will get you for more than 5 over. The Missouri side of the river can FLY if traffic is clear. Not uncommon to run 270 and then 370 at 80 to 100 MPH and STILL get passed.
Watch for police between Wentzville and Warrenton (another high enforcement zone). After Warrenton, pretty much smooth sailing accross 70 into KC.
Gas is usually much cheaper in Missouri. If you can get from Indy to STL, you can buy gas at the 3rd exit on 270 in Missouri. QT has "sand free" gas and is priced well. ("decent" food for gas station fare)
Enjoy the FLAT and not exciting ride. It will be worth it once you hit Denver!

Dave is absolutely correct about gas prices being higher in Illinois. Missouri is generally cheaper than Kansas too. You'll also find the gas goes up in price in Kansas the further west you go. But I don't think you can get across the state without at least one or two fill-ups. Salina is the last "cheap" location on I-70.

Appreciate all the sage wisdom coming to help get me where I'm going...thanks all....MIKE(TTT)
