Does anyone know if they is an official Texas IBA?
I read somewhere about a group of guys that rode the entire perimeter of Texas. (I think it was in 'Texas Ride' magazine.) I don't remember what the total distance was, or how long it took, but maybe some one else does. It'd be interesting to see if we could get a group together to make the run, and have it sanctioned by the IBA at the same time.
Oh, I just checked and it looks like 2400-2500 miles; Maybe that's TOO long?!!
How about an inner-loop? Like: Dallas-Abilene-San Angelo-San Antonio-Houston-Lufkin-Longview-Dallas? According to my distance locator it's 1024 miles.
Any non-Dallas riders could join in at any major stop and continue on 'til they finished the loop and returned to the location they started from.
Just a thought.

(1000 Big Texas miles in 24 hours! For SaddleSores done entirely in the borders of Texas!)
Would appear that the IBA http://www.ironbutt.com/about/about.cfm recognizes the ability to do a 1000SS within the state.

I like it, I want it, I'm ready to earn it! (Got a brand new Ultimate seat to break in, too!)
So, when would you like to do this?

While I'd like to do it as soon as I finish typing this, after a little consideration, I think sometime in September or October; It's going to be uncomfortable enough without the sun beating down on us most of the way!
I'm trying to get the route so that we will go along the outskirts of the bigger cities that we might hit during the busy times of the day. Also, hoping to leave so we'd split the time riding in the dark between morning and evening. (Just checked Gov info and found that there are 14 hours of daylight in June, but only 12.3 in September.)
I'd also like to work it out so that we're already headed south by noon, so we won't be riding with the sun in our eyes.
(I can already see people calling this the 'Sissy Run!)

)The faster you ride the cooler you'll be. Either way, I guarantee that if we leave before the break of dawn, we'll be heading south and in San Angelo before lunch, San Antonio if we push it. Here's a trick to keep cool: take a Camelback or similar water carrier/dispenser fill it to almost full, then freeze it solid. It'll keep you good and cold for hours, and usually melts at a rate to quench your thirst.

I just completed my IronButt last month. We started in Benbrook and headed west on I-20 at 0600 am. Went out I-20 and continued on I-10 to Sierra Blanca. Hit Sierra Blanca and had lunch and then turned around and finished in Arlington at 0100.
The sun was always at our backs and that helped alot.
There were 2 1800 VTX and my 1300 VTX a HD and a Yamaha.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My Mustang seat felt great - my ass isn't what hurt. I really needed some cruise pegs on my bike.

I've gotta watch this thread! If it pans out...and work permits...I'm in! And about the route, the little stretch between Abilene and San Angelo is a nice little ride for out here with some pretty good turns and hills. 8)
