Stopped for 1 hour then then took 81N. to 44 east to I-40 East at Oklahoma City took I-40 back to Little Rock 440 miles got home at 12:10 a.m. I must admit my butt is not iron and it hurts today.

my longest was only 700 (10.5 hrs.) my butt was pretty tired when I got home. I didn't even get off the bike for fuel, just pulled up to the pump and used a credit card.

Wow, great job. As long as you had fun, that's what counts. I have taken that ride in a car not on a bike from Tulsa to Little Rock and then back. That is quite a ride. Have not taken any really long rides as of yet on the bike. We put 200 on it one day and that was the best trip so far. I just picked up my bike last month. But I have big plans too!

I just rode to Delaware, OH and then to Hillsboro, OH last weekend from Philadelphia, PA. I did it in preparation for the ride to the Homecoming next month. I posted my story on the PA X Riders Board:

I rode 1017 miles in 17 hours (chicago to Denver). I was moving here and needed to get my bike here before the winter.
I rode 853 miles in 17 hours yesterday according to my speed-o, filled up 7 times. Left Little Rock at 7:00a.m. went south on I-30 to Prescott 371 to 71 to DeQueen Ar. Four of us did about 1060 miles from Denver to Reno on the way out to California for the Big Sur ride in August of '03. It took about 21.5 hours due to a lot of road construction stops. I rode the stock seat... real sore after 600 miles.... no pain after 850. Then we continued to complete 3200+ miles in our 7 day trip. Ordered the Ultimate Big Boy seat when I got home!!!!!!!!!

technically more than a day, but over 1300 miles in 26 hours when I went from Red River, NM, to Monument Valley to Natural Bridges Monument in Utah to Albuquerque to home near Ft. Worth. I rode all night. I took a lot of pictures along the way and that and the 100+ miles of rain really cut down on my average mph.
That was on my Spirit 1100. I didn't even look at the bike for 2 days after that.

Well, once on our motorcycle vacation we rode from Houston to El Paso for 750 miles. That was on two hours of sleep the night before and pretty much wupped us.
Then just 2 weekends ago we rode from Houston to Ft. Stockton and back for the IBA SS-1000 (approximatel 1036 miles in 18 hours). It was easier than I thought. We even went riding the next day (after waking up at noon).
I think we could do the BB Gold 1500 (1500 miles in 24 hours), if she didn't run out of gas and we didn't stop for a real meal (like during the SS-1000). But for now, I think I'll just wait for the license plate frames to come in. :D :D

1250 (?) miles in 19 hours, Seattle to San Diego. All sorts of crappy weather the last time I did it, from high 40s in the early morning leaving WA, to high 100s in the Central Valley area to 0 visibility fog at 2 a.m. in O.C. Arrived with my leathers drenched from riding through the fog, but happy because the 10 lbs of bug guts I picked up in the Valley got washed off.
The most surreal experience of the ride: an Indian (from the subcontinent) gas station attendant in San Clemente asking me about the VTX and telling me about how dangerous and cool bikes are.
Did it on a bone stock 1800R except for desmog, Thunder Teardrop and a PCIII. Would have much rather have started the mods with a Corbin and 440s and put the airbox and the PCIII on later.

I did about 1700 in two days-I guess I need a thousand in one day for Iron Butt though? I also just got back from a 6K trip through the western states. I found out that Canada SUCKS since they will not allow anyone with a DUI in-no matter when you got the sucker. Apparently, two beers in a two hour time period pushes one over the line just enough for a rookie bored cop to bring you in on. :(
Robinson Il. to Sarasota FL. 1020 miles and 8 days later, back to Robinson stopped about ever 120 miles for gas and etc. it took 18.5 hrs. (i think the wife shopped a little to long at the gas stations) and comming back had a few rain delays (down pours) I just can't say enough about my Mustang seat!

The first day, the wife and I went 640 miles Illinois, Indiana, kentucky, West Virginia and back into Ky. We rode about 200 the next and 250 the third. We did it on a Shadow Aero 1100. I was going to do some long distance / touring this year but, I had an accident at work in April and will not even be able to walk for a least a couple more months. But as soon as I can walk..... :mcrider:

I've done quite a few 500 mi. one way to and back (leave Friday and back Sunday) from Atlanta to Daytona, Orlando, Tampa. (Got people down there) I seem to do at least one a month and the last 4 have been in the rain all the way, both ways. Thank God for Frog Togs. Man what a rain suit. In the warm weather it breaths so you don't get all hot and sticky underneath. Most normal weekends we seem to run 250-300 miles through the Appalachians. Good practice for the up coming Saddle Sore 1K I'm fix'n to do in July. My hats off to y'all that have put more than 500 miles on with the stock seat. That beast went in the first 400 miles I owned the bike. That has to be the most uncomfortable seat I have ever been on. What was Honda thinking! I have noticed one thing in these trips and that is the wide variance in gas milage. Riding with a group (especially where many don't have windshields) it seemed like we average about 60-65 mph and about 49-50 mpg. Alone or with one other with a windshield we seem to average 75-80 mph and about 40 mpg. Has any one else seen gas milage variance like this?

The Saturday before the Honda Hoot, my dad, mom, and myself left home (Magnolia, AR) and rode to Mobile, AL to Jacksonville, FL, up the east coast through Myrtle Beach, across the Chesapeake Bay, up to Delaware, across Maryland, through D.C. (saw the whitehouse, ect.) down through the northern part of the Blue Ridge Parkway to Knoxville, TN for the Hoot. We made several rides out of Knoxville, including the Cherohala Skyway, Deals Gap, The Tail of the Dragon (318 curves in 11 miles of Hwy. 129) :D, and the Cumberland Gap. We made it home 8 days and 3,691 miles later. What a great trip and some good quality time with mom and dad. That, so far, was my longest ride. My dad and I also made a 1,262 mile trip in two days last year riding 860 miles one day. By the way, Dad rides a Wing.

Well I just finished my first Iron Butt. 1230 mi. in 19:45. Now I know why they call it the Bun Burner 1000. Actually my Mustang seat did quite well and I was suprise at the gas milage the X got. I got an ave. of 38.7 mpg cruising at a pretty constant 75-85mph. Illinoise is just one long drive at 65 and the road construction is pretty insane. More than 1/2 of the trip was in the rain. Frogg Togs worked as advertised. I never got weet and given the heat I never got too warm. I may do an Iron Butt on the return home. After a couple of hours you kind of get tis rythm were you can just keep going.

Well I just finished my first two Iron Butts. 1267 miles, Atlanta to St.Paul and back one week later. 19 hours up and 21 back. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I would have prefered to have had a traveling partner though. It's also a bad way to go deer hunting. I missed one by no more than a foot or so and at 85mph there is no out come would have been very good. On the way up more than 700 miles of it was in the rain. That sucked. My only real complaint was the high beam indicator light. On a very dark streach of road with no traffic and you fire up the high beams the blue light is so bright it screws up up your night vision. Does any one know if there is a lower wattage bulb you can put in their without having to tear everything apart?
When I got up there, my brother in law rides the same bike I do (2002 VTX 1800R in Blurple) but he only has 4,000 miles on it. Kuryakyn, which is located close to where he lives and he has some friends that work there, had his X all winter to do all the new 1800 parts modeling for this year. If you look in the '05/'06 Kury catalog, the Blurple X is his. They let him keep all the parts they put on for the use of his bike. Such a deal. The chrome engine covers are awesome. Anyway, he took a look at my bike and said, "dude, your rear breakes are gone." (Less than 1/64 in. left)I had the fronts done in February when I put new tires on and was told the rears should last the season. (So much for listening to the stealership)I have 25K miles on my X. Well he had a friend of his from where he works (www.vipermotorcycles.com (http://www.vipermotorcycles.com)) come over and he put new rear breaks on for $50. Then I got a big suprise. Since it was also my birthday he handed me this box and said Happy Birthday. Inside was a PCIII. His shop buddy used to work at Honda had it in and mapped in 1/2 hour. I swear it is like riding a new bike. The milage went down a it but I had a situation where I had to get around a car and truck and the bike went from 80 to 100mph in the length of the car. I couldn't believe it. I'll trade that for the milage anyday.
For what it is worth, check out www.vipermotorcycles.com (http://www.vipermotorcycles.com). It is a new production bike company. I got to put a couple of hundred miles on one of their test mules. It is a 150 cu.in. monster. This one was de-tuned and was producing only 130hp at the rear wheel. The production level machine is supposed to be something like 180hp.
Right now I am waiting for a new rear tire. I took one quick little ride when I got home and I don't know what I ran over but it put a 1 in. cut in the center of the tread. There is no way that one can be patched. So a new Metz is on the way. I know there has been some discussion on this forum about tire pressure and the consensus seems to be 41lbs. in the rear and 38 on the front for a Metz. After running two seasons with this pressure I am convinced it is too high. When I replaced the rear it was worn to the cords only in the center of the tire. 38 rear and 35 front seem to give better wear and traction. Has any one found out anything different?
Take care y'all and have a safe season. Biketoberfest is next.

Just rode 1228 miles to Honda Homecoming in 23 hours with 1 hour spent at a Texas Honda dealer with starter switch problems. The switch was fixed at the Marysville dealer. (THANKS) Temple Texas to Dublin Ohio. That was the closest room I could get. I had a good time and made it to The Ride for the Record with 593 others... :pepper1: :pepper1: :pepper1:
i did about 800 miles on my 1800C , from Bahrain (down in the middle east), through Saudi, all the way up to Dubai, in the UAE. i crossed 2 borders, and stopped for gas more than 7 times because i could barely get 105 miles with my setup.
it was the longest i have ever been on a bike, and the first time i ride through rain and then a sand storm. it was worth the experience!
i'm planning to do 1200 miles in december, this time all the way to Oman.

Gotta love those long rides. I like the thumb nail pic of your scoot.
The link you posted for the pics is not working. I have a music and pic gallery on Yahoo too. You are going to have to go into the folder with pics for your bike and select a property that allow the pics to be viewed by the public. Right now, in order to see the pics, we would have to sign into your Yahoo account as you. Let me know if you get the link to work. I would like to see the pics of your bike. It looks like you put alot of work into it. Where did you find a Springer frontend for the X?

I do indeed have a few $$$$ in the VTX. Way more than I will ever get out of it, but is my ride for the near to far future. The springer is for, sorry to say, a HD. the Frame was cut and a new neck was welded in. I have never had a chopper frame like OCC builds. This is my 3rd Chopper, all have been stock frame, different degree necks.

Weazl, I got to the pics. Please do put some more close ups in there. Especially the driving lights mounts, the neck mod and the springer. I will never get out of a bike what I put into it and like you, I plan on hanging on to mine for awhile. How does the springer handle the weight of the X? What rake and trail did you end up with after the mod? Did you have to do any mods to fit the 200 series tire in? How is the ride and hadnling? (I have an R as well and want to put a 200 on.) What year is your X? The more I look at your bike the more questions I have. Cool scoot. I haqve the Mustang 3 piece as well. Since I have two Saddle sore 1000's out of the way I can go for a gold now as well.

I finaly did an Iron Butt. 1,100 miles in just under 19 hours. Winner, SD to Marysville, OH. Spent an hour and a half chasing a blown fuse. Some of that was finding a less than helpful Honda mechanic, he was more worried that if he tried to do anything he may be late going home. He spent half an hour making excuses instead of trying to find it for me. I finaly found it 250 miles later when it started to get dark and I realized I didn't have taillights either. Replaced the fuse and got my speedo back.

The spring does very well with the weight of the VTX. The only time i have a little trouble is starting and stopping. The slow speed puts a lot of weight on the handlebars, I suppose the narrow Z bars dont help any. I plan on putting on a set of ape hangers this winter when I can remove the tank and lengthen the wiring and cables.
I am not sure what the rake came out to as i bought the 6 over springer and had the cut and fit to it. I did want the lower frame to be stock level, but the extra time to get a 19" wheel was going to be 6-9 weeks, according to the builder. So we went with a 21" wheel. this leaves the frame a but out of stock level.
I sure hope there is not to much modifications for the 200 tire. The tire size will depend on how much room will be left when the 11" shocks are installed. I will have to measure the room at the inside of the fender. There is enough room in the swingarm/driveshaft area. As far as riding and handling i am not how the 200 tire will do. I know the shorter shocks will hurt the riding a little. When I want comfort I ride the wing.
My VTX is a 2002 Retro, well was

In May, did 1131 miles Alb. NM - Flagstaff, AZ - Tucson, AZ - Las Cruces, NM back to Alb, NM in 19 hrs. Saddle Sore 1000.
A couple of buddies and I are already planning a border to border run 1640 miles next year. Figure we'll run down to Mexico then up to Canada then over to Sturgis. Total miles will be 2350 miles in 48 hrs. Alb. NM - Mexican border - Canadian border - Sturgis, SD. We figure we will get a Saddle Sorre, Bun Buner, and a Border to Border in.

I did my ride May14-15th and turned in my information in the next week. So I would say right at 9 weeks before the certificate, patch, pin, and licence plate back showed up.
Bad thing is I did mine on a Honda Sabre and now I have a VTX so the licence plate back does not work.

I've had the bike for two summers now and had 4 long trips (put around 8500 mile on the first year). So far the longest single day was May 15, 2005, when I rode Amarillo, TX, to Cedar City, UT (home). That was just over 850 miles, with a couple short side trips in between.
The next longest was San Diego, CA (actually just south of SD) to home in October 2004, and that was just 550 miles total for the day.
All that was on the stock hard seat. I just ordered a new seat (Ultimate) and hope to get one more good ride in this year (maybe by mid-September) before we get our first snow.
I looked at the Iron Butt site ... those guys are nuts!! I love the 100,000+ riders who get it done in a year. I just can't imagine that many miles in 1 year ... I wonder what their hotel bills look like?

Its been over a year for me since my last Iron butt!
My best Iron Butt was from Camarillo CA to Englewood CO (1100 miles in about 16 hrs).
My longest duration ride was from Vinton LA to Camarillo CA (1700 plus miles in about 30 hours) but was delayed several hours by rain.

I rode 1350 miles from Aspen CO. to Dayton KY. in 18 hours. I had to cut my summer trip short and haul butt home asap. I ride a VTX 1800 Retro w/Mustang seats. It wasn't as hard of a ride as I thought it would be. I think I could have burned a couple more tanks of fuel if I wanted to.

I have been looking for a lower wattage one but I haven't found the part number for the existing one without taking everything apart to find out. If I have to take it down that far to put the white out on I am going to pull the bulb and see if there is a low watt replacement. The white-out will work for now.

1850 miles, 33 hours, Havasu City, AZ to Vernon Center, MN. Through sun, rain, accident delays and seemingly endless gas stops. 500 miles to Sturgis the first day, left the third day for Utah. Saw Bridges, Arches, Brice, Zion, Glen Canyon, Grand Canyon and lots more. Then onto Sedona and Lake Havasu. It took me 7 days to get there and a little over a day to get back to my wife and kids. I need to get something better than the stock rock I sit on my 1800 R.

Went from Indianapolis to Salt Lake City. Did it in two legs on the way out, first 900 miles, then 600 to get there. Took it easier on the way home. Three legs, 400-500-600. All on a Stock 1800C. Only bad weather was the first 5 hours, just a light rain.

Whew! Long haul on a Hard Seat, I'd say.
I'm guessing you ran across I-80 from Rock Island on. I've done that route, and the drive across Nebraska can make it seem much longer. By the time you hit Kearney, Neb., I imagine the seat grew especially hard. :D
That ride from Cheyenne, WY, through to SLC is actually pretty nice, especially if you've got some time to explore. From the divide down to Rock Springs and then through into the Flaming Gorge area has some really great riding spots as well. Hmm ... sounds like a new trip for next summer. 8)

Hello Grumpyz, I used to own a valkyrie interstate. I could ride that all day without a wiggle on the seat. My wife and I would put many 500 to 900 mile days in comfortably on the stock seat. Yes, I am disappointed in the stock seat. By the time I got home, I was too numb to feel it. The pain was maybe the reason I could stay awake. I looked at Mustang and Corbin in Sturgis, but was not impressed with either for the passenger seat. I'm not going to buy anything until I find a good passenger seat. Anybody have a good suggestion? I've made that trip a few times with my bike in the back of my pick up, just wanted to see if I could do it on the bike. Being from MN, I like to ride in AZ and San Diego in the Winter. When you only have a week of vacation, you ride as much as you can. Sometimes it is all about the road. Dave

Hey Dave, I got the wide Mustang passenger seat alnoing with the wide drivers seat with a back rest. The whole setup is pretty comfortable. I have over 26,000 mile on this setup right now. If I had to do over however, I would go with the Ulimate Seat companies seat. It is the best seat I have seen bar none. I discovered at Bike Week 2 years ago. Too bad it was after I got the Mustang, but still the Mustang is much better than the stock or the Corbin. Check them out at http://www.ultimateseats.ca/ . I have ridden a couple of X's with this seat and it beat the Mustang. I had a Corbin on a different bike and found it to be almost as bad as the stock seat. Check out the Ultimate web site and let me know what you think. I can put you in touch with some one that owns one if you want.
I am originally from Mn. as well. I go back for a couple of weeks in the summer. There is some great riding up there especially up the St. Crouix River and the Boundry Waters areas. I live in the Atlanta area now and I am less that 1/2 hour aways from some really nice riding country. We get to ride year around here and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Mn is pretty much 11 months of winter and 1 month of bad sledding. I don't miss not having a snow blower.

800+ miles in about 12 hours, with several stops for gas and one 45 minute stop for lunch (clam chowder at a little joint in Forks, I think it was). It was a trip around the Olympic Peninsula, on Labor Day.
On a 1985 Kawasaki Ninja. :D
I was incredibly lucky that day, actually- when I was going north, everyone was heading home from camping, and when I was going south along the beaches, everyone was heading north. So I was always going against the flow of traffic and had zero problems getting stuck behind turistas in their Winnebago CycleCrusher(tm) 2000s.

Gang I do not think stock seat is that tough sorry. I did 1132 miles in 19 hours with a 1.5 hour lunch break. No problem doing Saddle Sore 1000. Next day back on the bike for a long ride (over 200 miles). I honestly think it's more on what you are personally capable of doing and how you prepare.
Too many people get on their bike and do a long ride when they seldom go farther than 150-200 miles. You have to work yourself up for the Iron Butt type of ride if you want to walk away with no stiffness
I have tried several different seats and never found one that I said WOW that was great.

I don't think that I've ridden more then a couple hundred in the rain at one time. Temp and gear make a huge differance at that point.
I rode most of a day once on a group ride, small group showed up, in the rain. Leather, no helmet or rain suit, and chilly. It was a long day!
I was used to never wearing a helmet at the time and didn't think of it untill I was on my way. Bought a good rain suit after that!
Aw, riding in the rain is fun. On my Alaska trip last summer I rode in the rain for 26 out of 29 riding days. Some days only had spurts of liquid sunshine while others were total. My rainsuit appreciated the almost daily washings. Day rain is usually manageable but night rain...

About the 6th day in a row and I might have turned around for home ... or for some Sunny California beaches. I've ridden in two days of rain in a row, but that has been it. I normally try to time my trips for better weather. In fact, in the last couple years I've even gotten to a point that I try to plan at least two trips, usually in different directions, so that I can make a last minute choice based on what the weather might be.
I do have to say I want to make that Alaska trip, sooner than later, and that I guess that kind of trip might make a difference on how long I'll put up with the rain. Alaska is one big trip and a lap of America is the other ... hopefully in the next 5 years for both.
Just recently done a 1100 mile ride ,1 day up next morning ealy got the bike kitted up back home another 1100 miles . First thing i did when i got home was order a new seat as thats a hard way to find out the stock seat is well &^%& man ya got to love these bikes 8)
More liquid sunshine to report. I took a ride down toTallahassee, FL to see friends and family. On the way back I enjoyed (read; suffered through) two days out of three of constant rain and storm along I-85/77/81/84. Cold, cold rain making my electric gloves useless. Total rain mileage was about 1,000. The guard chaps held up and did a great job protecting my legs.
BTW, the Alaska trip was glorious, stormy weather notwithstanding. Next time, I'll have a much more relaxed timetable. With all this rain riding experience, Nova Scotia should be fine.

That's close to the one I did last summer. Atlanta to Minneapolis. 1267mi. in 19 hours. No stock seat though.
My modified stock seat, a personal triumph of cutting and adding memory foam, will soon take an honored place in storage. The short version of this story is that my beautiful wife of nearly 32 years has finally decided to join me in riding and so I cheerfully (life is short at best) made purchase of a set of Mustang seats including contoured backrest. (much cheaper than the price of a 'wing). My current seat has taken me through 21,000+ miles without any complaints.

In preparation for my BB 1000 I did two 850 mile rides in about 14 hours each way. I learned a few things and need some guidance on a few others.
I wore leathers for most of the trip and found them comfortable and a pain. The comfort came from the elimination of cloth vibration and the warmth after dark. The discomfort came from a creeping zipper that vibratred up the track (soon to be fixed by adding a piece of leather over the slide). The jacjet was too warm during the day in Florida so I changed to a mesh one that worked well. At night I put the heavy leather one on and changed to full-finger gioves. I was comfortable despite the time of day. I'll do the same on the day of the ride.
The two problems I have are seat-burn and refueling times. In order to do the 1000 mile run in the fastest time I need to maintain the highest average speed possible (nothing new there). The problem is that no matter what I tried, i couldn't get the pit stop under 10 minutes and towards the end the stopping time grew to 15. In most cases the pumps were free of traffic and the credit card worked in most of them.
The procedure was to find an open pump, put the bike on the kick stand and do the credit card thing. In order to maximize the fuel fill I kept the bike vertical, standing to bring some relief to my aching butt.
In preparation I checked the receipt for date and correct time and noted the mileage on the slip (a good exercise since several stops required me heading to the teller to get a receipt).
I carried liquid refreshment (although I didn't have a camel back on the bike) and nutrition bars to feed my face. I also made use of the rest rooms (having squirmed for a hundred miles, it was far more comfortable and smarter using the bathroom rather than pulling off the road). The total time to drain and fill averaged 10 minutes. Does anyone have a suggestion for reducing this? I'm using a stock 1800R tank and haven't started the tank mod.
The other problem was the butt burn. For the first 500 miles or so it wasn't a problem but as the night wore on it got more and more of my attention. I wore cotton (and will experiment with synthetics in the future) but found the discomfort annoying. The bike has floorboards and highway pegs so I have three riding positions. Towards the end no matter what I did, I got only temporary relief. I ride on a well ridden Ultimate Bigboy with back rest and found the back rest a benefit in certain positons. Is butt burn common at the 600+ mile point? Does anyone have a way to reduce or extend the non-burn time?
The result of the trial run is that doing the 1000 miles in 24 hours is very possible with a bit more time management and conditioning. I need to work on getting the non-moving times down and finding relief for the butt. I also found the throttle lock and throttle boss a welcome addition to the bike. I could relax my throttle hand and that helped, too.

Doug, you have quite a number of good questions there. I have done about 11 of these over the years and the last 2 on an '02R. Was was a 15K Golden Bun.
I throw down gel pad or padded sheepskin that you alternate between everyother gas stop will fix the bun burn. I realy don't need them with the Mustang but it helps by just changing positions every once in awhile.
The gas stops I only got off my bike every 3rd stop. I planned my stops every 110-120mi on my route plan. I do it the old fashioned way, with a map and string to the scale on the map. (I gotta get a GPS). I minimize the pit stops by drinking very little liquid. Most gas stop I pull up to the pump (keeping my credit card in a handy spot) and never drop the kickstand. Take the cap off, put it on the back seat, fill, grab the receipt, write the mileage on it and go. I can be in and out in less than 5 min.
I sent you a PM with my contact info if you want to talk about it. Alot of it depends on where you are doing your ride.

I'm beginning to think that the butt is so different from one person to the other that it's darn near impossible to tell who will suffer and who won't. Guys who are tough as nails in other areas of life seem to have no tolerance for long distance riding.
For me, the butt burn just don't go away no matter what I do. Ultimate or Mustang seats sure help, and so does the gel pad and sheepskin tricks, but in the end (pun intended) I still end up with butt burn if I go more thna 800 miles in a day. I think I just have a delicate tooshy!
Backrest is a must for long distance (over 350 miles in a day) as would be a good seat. But even that doesn't stop it for some folks, so it's all relative.
For me, the secret to beautiful riding days is to plan about 500 in a day (for a long day) and then break it up over the day. I can get the first 250 done in the morning, with plenty of stops between 8:30 and noon, and then take a nice siesta right after lunch. Around 1:30 or so I'll mount up and finish the last 200+ miles to arrive fairly refreshed by 6:00 or so.
Since I enjoy taking the time to stop and smell the roses, even if they are fed by dripping diesel from the nearby pumps of a truck mega-stop, this riding style works. Cutting my stop down to 10 minutes or less would just make my ride worse, and I usually keep my stops at the 20 to 30 minute range instead.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
I'll investigate the aerogel pad although I think I need more long distance time on the Ultimate. Changing from cotton to synthetic may also help.
I'll also try drinking less (and hopefully avoid dehydration) and not getting off the bike during the first several fills. I kinda knew this but old habits die hard. :)
I do know that wearing leathers and a full faced helmet reduced the hydration and greatly increased the body warmth.
I'm using a GPS with the route planned on it to give me a good idea of how I'm doing compared to the plan (plan the ride, ride the plan). It's helped me find open gas stations at 2am as well as alternates when the superslab is closed.
And I'm going to rethink the 1000mi ride. Maybe it's possible to ride hard all day and well into dark, getting 80% done, take a nap, and then do the rest. It's a possibility I hadn't considered.

My new "longest ride", not in distance, was about 1,000 miles in 23 hours. But that included two PGR funerals in the middle of the day. That also caused about 100 miles of that to be ridden in a 50 mph procession with frequent breaks, not how I usualy ride on a day like this!
I would say it was my longest day of riding, but probably also the most rewarding!

My longest was from Stecoah Valley N.C. to Broken Arrow, Okla. a total of 860 in just under 15 hours. The first 3 hours in the rain and in the mountains. Stopped for food once and only fuel other than that. Since that ride the first week of May, I installed some "C" risers on the Retro and plan on a Iron Butt before the Summer is over. The Ultimate seat was a great addition to the bike before I went on the trip.

In 1992 I bought a Nighthawk 750, I left on a Monday morn., around 7am. from Cape Canaveral, Fla. I made it to the in-laws in Weed, Ca (northern Ca) Friday night around 5pm. Must be around 3200 miles.
Getting my oil changed in Cocoa before the trip, a guy on a 1200 Wing told me, you better bring extra chain links, plugs, tools etc. That 750 never let me down, sold it in Mar 1995 with 27000 miles on it.
I would love to take the same trip on the 1800, worse on gas and better on comfort. Only been about 480 miles in one day.

I bought a one way ticket to Tampa...and it is a LONG WAY from Tampa to Dayton....ON A CROTCH ROCKET!!!
I arrived in Tampa at 10pm...i was on the bike at 10:30pm....i rode till 1am...would have rode longer but keep seeing deer standing on the road. found a hotel...sleep till 7am...and was back on the bike by 8am....i only made it to Corbin, ky b/c of the weather....thank god...my buddy was heading south while i was heading north and that is where we passed one another.
IN ALL IT WAS 1100 MILES IN 14 HOURS!!!
Does this count??? ha ha

I would have made it in less that 20 hours but it was so freaking hot in Needles that I stopped in at the air conditioned Denny's from 3 pm til dark then rode through the night making the total start to finish about 23 hours.
My routine is to stop at a rest area and sleep hard for an hour on a picnic table or bench. I park the bike right next to the table and no one has ever bothered me.
Wife and I ride to Chama often. Sweet putt from Durango.

661 is the most I have done in one day. Did 3030 in 5 days. Both of those seemed easy compared to the 450 we did in one day in the pouring rain back in June. :rain1:
Will be heading to Vegas in Sept. Thinking about a non stop attempt. (about 1,100 miles)

You guys rock. 400+ miles is all Ive done. Right now I can't image tring it with that cheap Vtx 1300 retro seat. Sometimes I start feeling discomfort after 50 miles. I would like to try a touring wide mustang, but to be honest, they don't look any different then the X's original. But a lot of people seem to stand by them.
