Hello All,

I hope that everyone had a nice weekend. I had been planning on checking out "Thunder in the Valley". A friend with a Gold Wing invited me on a trip to Wellsboro, in Tioga County. We left on Thursday, and it was a nice ride from Delaware County. We went on the back roads through Lancaster to Harrisburg, and up Rt. 15 to Rt. 6. Wellsboro is a nice small town, and very biker friendly. LOTS of bikes everywhere. I only saw one other VTX, but quite a few nice Valks. Beautiful roads, mountains, wildlife, good food, and cold beer. And, of course, the "PA Grand Canyon". We saw very little traffic. We had most of the roads to ourselves, even on Saturday. It was a HOT weekend, though. We were worn out by the time we got home. I logged over 700 miles, and killed a massive quantity of bugs.

CaptnGus,

Years ago I visited Wellsboro (15 years ago in fact) with a group of motorcycle riding friends.

I was so impressed with the area and the State Park there (where you can go camping) that I took my two children - ages 6 and 5 at the time - back there a month later. We camped out for two nights. They have enjoyed camping ever since.

We (PA VTXers) will have to plan a ride there.... maybe next year??? :o :o

I know what you mean, especially if you are into outdoor sports. Hiking, bicycling, motorcycling, camping, canoeing, fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, ATV'ing, and probably a few more (I refuse to refer to "birdwatching" as a "sport"). For the real "manly" men, they even have an annual rattlesnake hunt (not this cowboy!). Friends of mine were so impressed on a vacation, that they ended up buying a second home there. Real estate is still cheap in that area. Maybe it's because of the snakes??

Another trip sounds good. There is still alot that I didn't get a chance to see. Wellsboro is also close to Corning and Steuben, NY, and the finger lakes. Here's a shot of the canyon from the western rim:
