Hi all,
I'll be passing thru Iowa on either the 16th or 17th en route to CT and was wondering if there was anything I need to be aware of. I'll be taking 80 across and I'm mostly interested in:
long stretches w/o services
notorious speed traps
good eats
photo ops
alternate roads (along 80).
If anyone has any info I'd appreciate it.
thanx

I haven't been on 80 in a while, but it's known for it's heavy traffic and bad driver's. If you are going to take it, BE CAREFUL!!
The troopers work it for it's heavy drug traffic, but I'm not sure about speed. Iowa just raised it's interstate speed to 70 on July 1, 2005. But it also raised the fines, and supposedly enforcement. However I believe it's still cheaper than most states.
Have a good and safe trip!
Sorry I couldn't help more.

Just remembered Rubes steakhouse is just off of 80 west of Des Moines. Good food! It's a grill your own place, a little cheaper that way, but expensive for cooking your own. All that said, I enjoyed it the time I was there.

I just went to Omaha for the July 4th weekend and there is construction between Exits 29-46 on 80. It is on the west bound side however they are moving all traffic in the east bound lane. I was in stop and go traffic for about 45 minutes due to this construction. On the way back we exited 29 and went south about 2.5 miles and then turned left onto route 83 (it is marked 83 on our map but never saw any signs turned out to be something like G-18 a county road marker. Just turn left at the T and you will be fine.) and went 17 miles to WALNUT and then turned North for 2 miles back to 80. I do not know if this will be an issue for you or not just hope you make it around it safely.

Thanx guys.
I'll be sure to watch out heading across. Sounds like both Nebraska and
Iowa are known for bad drivers (not sure if they top Mass though).
