Warning!!!! Do not fall victim to this scenario as i did yesterday...
It was such a beautiful day i had to go for a ride, so i pushed my "X" out into the driveway, put on helmet and gloves, "STARTED THE MOTOR", and turned to close the garage door. As you all know this motorcycle that we all love so dearly, has quite a lump, lump, to the motor at idle. It was this lump, lump, that was just enough to let my bike roll forward on the stand, and fall over in the driveway just as i turned to mount-up.... "OUCH!!!".
Possibly several thousand dollars damage occured in a heartbeat, and i was'nt even attached to her when it happened."DAMN". Luckily for me i carry a low deductible on my insurance, so it will not initially cost me alot to make her beautiful again, "BUT" the insurance company see's this as a "collision", and my rates will escalate from here. "CRAP!!!"
Although my driveway looks flat, it is (as i would suspect most to be) "slanted toward the street". The "HORROR" of such a act should never be witnessed by another X-Rider, so please be careful that this scenario does not happen to you!!!!
OH! THE MENTAL SCARS!!!!    :(

Bummer! What kind of damage did it sustain? I can imagine tank damage but what else? On the bright side I guess now you can get the tank seam filled in and a spiffy new paint job.

Mike...
In 23,000 miles I have had mine on its side three times. No damage at all. Not even a scratch. Of course it is due to the Linbdy bar. The ground hits that bar and the bike sits there. I pick it up and do not even have to adjust the mirror. Well worth the money!!

Sorry to hear the news. This must have happened just after we talked. Did youget to make it over to your Dad's place to see him off?
Hope all goes well with the repairs. We are looking forward to your Klikitat (sp) ride.
The check for the shades should be there soon.
Thanks again

I feel your pain, and this has spurred me to get right on getting a crash bar before it is too late. This thing is a pig to get in and out of the garage and frankly that's the part that scares me.
No use waiting, is there....
I'm on it, what kinds of bars do you guys use?
thanks

Here is what my X looks like when I drop it. Down three times and not a scratch! I guess this makes 4.

Hey Bob - I'm thinking about buying the L&E Forwards and was curious about adding the Lindby bar too. From your pic it looks like you have that combo on your bike - how do you like it?

I do and I like! I had to make an adaptor to mount the lindby with the forward controls. It's not a big deal though.

Mike that's not good news.....
My drive way is just like yours with a slight slope to the street. It could have easily happen to me! I'll be paying closer attention to that in the future.
Thanks for taking the time to give us the heads up and letting us share your pain.

I had some old foot pegs from my last motorcycle. They had a nice picec of chrome steel. I cut some brackets and drilled some holes. You want to get the bottom of the Linbdy bar as high as you can. The first try I made I got them too low and they drug in corners. Not good!

Bob your so handy what you do own your own auto shop!
Your right about those bars saving your bike, cheap insurance for the investment!
Wish I had them the morning we pulled out of the resturant late last summer in Corvallis and I dropped the bike in the street! ..... still not sure what happened but luckily got off with only a minor scratch!

It can happen so fast! That ride last spring with Dennis and Jerry I hit some wet pine needles in a parking lot while turning at 10 mph. I was on my butt with my X making circles around the Linbdy bar so fast I had to think about how the heck I got on the ground. One milisecond I was on my bike and the next milisecond I was on my butt.
Give that basketball daughter of yours a pat on the back for me. How come you never invited the Xriders to a game :D

Hey Mike,
I sure hope you didn't fill out an accident report. After the insurance pays up for your bike, just go to a different insurance company and presto, no more rate hiking chargeble accident. I found bikeline.com to be quite reasonable

Thanks Brad for the advice.... And thanks to "all" who can relate to this HORROR!!! My wife just says "you dork!!"... Gotta love her though!!
I just may look into a set of crash bars, as i also believe the damage would have been minimized by such a device... Oh well !!!
Hope to meet with insurance adjuster today, where again i will argue the case for liability verses collision. My agent seemed to think that if the wind had blown it over it would have been liability... Whats the difference ??? I still was not even on the bike.
Lessons learned!!!!

Mike
I heard the bad news about your bike from Michelle at work today. Sure glad to hear you've got good insurance for it. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for a tank or are you going to repair yours?

The bike goes to St. Johns Honda on Saturday morning for an estimate of repairs... Was told it could take several days !!! ?? He wants to be thorough, and put it on the lift and all... Hope the downtime is minimal, can't stand to away from my baby... If anyone has any suggestions as to a (fast ) turnaround shop, I would consider taking it elsewhere if needed..

Damn Mike:
Your X fell over. You did not hit a wall at 60. How in the world could it take over 15 minutes to access the damage and get parts ordered?? Several days is bull!!! If it takes them several days to access damage just how long does it take them to fix it, several months??? I had my 1100 ACE fall over years ago and it did $1100.00 damage. I rode it into the insurance adjusters, we went over the bike and listed everything that was dented, scratched or broken. They cut me a check and I rode to the Honda dealer and ordered the new parts. If I were you I would get on the phone and find a dealer that is willing to get the job done.
Bob
Mike
St Johns Honda sold me my last 5 bikes and does the service on all of them, including an estimate and ordering parts for damage after some @#$hole pushed my bike into the wall at work with his front bumper. If Dick and the crew need a few days, either they're already booked and are fitting you in or they are concerned and want to be thorough. One thing for sure, I've never had to take a bike back to them to get it "right" later.
If you're still concerned, get ahold of Gary Wheeler - sales manager there. He' my go to guy at St Johns Honda and has my total confidence, along with the rest of his crew.

I'll echo everything Bear just said. Bought mine there, had one warranty repair done as promised. St Johns is an excellent shop. Sometimes it's not about speed or price but trust, thoroughness, and working relationships. Sometimes it's good to ask yourself: why is this so inexpensive and quick?
In fairness to Bob, however, I'd probably do it the way he did, collect the check and fix it myself. $.02
