I've had my VTX for just over a year and put a little more than 9000 miles on it. I just got from two trips, and after the first one I ordered the Cruise n Comfort backrest for the stock VTX seats.

I ordered the driver's backrest mostly because of what I'd read on this forum and others on this site. I also liked the idea of buying from another VTX rider.

I have to tell you that I was pretty happy with the backrest even though I'm too tall for it. I'm about 6'2" and around 260 (if I lie well ) so I needed something that fit several different ways.

The backrest works really well on the stock seat, but it does move you forward about 2 inches and maybe a little more. It put my thighs up on the tank and put the front of my shoes over the floorboards.

So ... why am I going on about the backrest if it didn't work for me?

Simple ... I've returned the backrest and Bill has just been GREAT to work with. Yeah, he knows the backrest isn't for everyone, so this will help some future buyers to see if they fit the mold ... so to speak. I figure my little information will do two things:

1) It will help buyers understand they need to worry about size when buying after market parts.

2) It will put some folks mind to ease dealing with someone over the Internet.

I have to tell you, like a lot of folks I've been burned plenty of times buying stuff on the Internet. But Bill Carner is just easy to deal with, so I thought it worth a plug!

The reality is that the backrest did work for a couple short trips (up over Cedar Mountain, etc.) but I'm gonna have to go with the Ultimate seat eventually just becuase it's made for us bigger boys. But if you're in the 6' and under category (and you don't want to buy a much more expensive custom seat/backrest combo) then I'd strongly recommend you look at this backrest. The quality of workmanship is great and it is so easy to install that even I did it in about 5 minutes ... and I have the mechanical ability of a wet sponge.

So ... Bill ... and Gang ... thanks for letting me try out the backrest, sorry it didn't work, but best of luck to others as they buy your product. I think you've got a real hit on your hands.

Thanks for the info. I'm 6'1 225. sounds like it might not work for me. I'm considering buying an Ultimate.

I agree with most of the stuff said about the backrest, so far on this post. It really makes my rides more enjoyable. I am 6'4" around 210 and have no problem with the fit. My son rode my bike down to college for a couple weeks, and he said he the backrest was there for him when he leaned back, and he is 6'0" around 200lbs. He probably could have adjusted it up a little, since I have is set all the way back.

Any way, thought I would add my 2 cents. And again Bill Carner was great to work with.

I got one of Bill's back rest in Aug, I'm 5'8 it was a good fit, better to lean back and relax than to be riding and not be comfortable. Might cut 2 inches from passenger seat to sit me back a inch or to.

$140.00 plus you can also bend back the bar a little which I might try first instead of cutting the passenger seat 2 inches. Crusincomfort.com
