Ok my fellow Blue Knighters, I have seen our Brother officers in Miss. and Louisiana suffering about all I can. Lets do something to help them. They are having to work numerous hours with little to no rest and no homes to go to. We need to rally and do something to help them. Share any ideas or what may be happening from your area.

I'm on the Federal side and as of today only about 400 Federal LEO's have been deployed to New Orleans. Most Federal agencies are still deciding how many LEO's to send and what their specific duties will be. It's my understanding that it is an all out war zone with shots being fired at rescue workers and Police. I have volunteered to go and am just awaiting my orders.

Back in 1992, I had the misfortune of being deployed to Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots. It sounds like history is repeating itself once again.

Be safe!!

I've talked to several NOPD (and Fire Dept. and other first responders from that area).

The biggest uncertainty is: Am I going to get paid on time? How am I going to pay my bills?

Everybody is working lots of overtime, but many departments can't afford it.

The FOP here in Baton Rouge has collected donations and bought clothing and toiletry items for officers from NO and points south who've been furloughed and passed through here. Our lodge is also functioning as a hotel for those police families that have no other resources. All first responders have to come here (BR) for physicals and shots before going elsewhere. NOPD was only giving their officers a $200 partial pay (cash). Other, smaller departments weren't even trying to get their people any money. The FOP was kicking in up to $100 per officer, depending on financial need - but that doesn't go far if your family needs housing and food. 80% of NOPD officers lost their homes. Likely the other first responders are in the same shape, especially those south of NO. And southern Mississippi is even worse in many places.

Donate to your local FOP for the hurricane relief effort. Give whatever you can. The money coming here comes from the National FOP.
