Well, Hurricane Katrina took my house, two cars and my bike. After we get settled I'll start looking for another bike. Should I go to an 1800 or find another 1300? What kind of gas mileage does the 1800 get? Is anyone else on the Gulf Coast up and online yet?

Damn, sorry to hear about your loss...sucks.
I get around 32-33 on my 1800 with the Hard Krome 3" pipes, it did get around 37 before I added the stuff.

Sorry to hear about your loss. But the main thing is your not out looking to replace family members. Now back to the motorcycle. I let a friend ride my 1300C, He has a 1800. His comment was how much lighter the 1300 was and handled better than his 1800. Hope this helps. Richard

i think a lot depends on if you ride 2-up a lot....
recently took a trip......on the way home it was 3- 1300 and 1- 1800
we all topped off and then went 113 miles. here are the results.
1800C - 2-up - no bags 4.1 gallons
1300C - med female rider - no bags 2.82 gallons
1300R - med/lrg male - no bags/windshield 3.02 gallons
1300R - lrg male - hard bags 3.99 gallons
front top faring
goldwing type back top hard bag (looks like the rear of a car)
if i lived in Chicago or windy places, i would opt for the weight of the 1800....if i raced, i would do the same.
hope this helps

I am wrestling with so many other things the bike replacement has moved to the back burner. I may even wait until this winter or early next spring. I have been smitten with a BMW R1150RT though. Many that is a highway machine. Until I saw that I was sure I would get another VTX.
Have any of the other Gulf Coast riders reported in. How did everyone make out?

A few of us are up and running here on the Gulf Coast. Ber_1800 lost everything except his 1800 though. Sorry to hear about your loss! The Southern Cruisers are up and running now...just settling in on finding a new place to meet. Nothing is left of Spirits Grill except the sign. Man below the train tracks sure is a mess!
I ride a 1300 VTX, and I test drove an 1800. The 1800 is alot heavier, but has more horsepower. I opted to get the 1300 because it felt more maneuverable during rush hour traffic on Pass Road. You can just zip this one in and out of traffic easier it seemed.
I am getting away from this place for awhile. Headed to Stillwater OK on Sunday for a few days. Good luck with your bike when you decide!
