Has anyone heard of a law forbidding a motorcycle rider from having anything hanging on their belt while riding? I.E. cell phone, poket knife, etc. There was an individual pulled over in a neighboring township (in Pennsylvania) who was cited for several offenses, one being having a cell phone on his belt. Does anyone know if this is a legitimate law? I have never heard of such a thing, but had heard that there is was something in the lawbooks about requiring boots, sturdy pants (denim or leather), and long sleeve shirts, while riding. Thanks.

Laws vary from state to state, but here in Illinois, there are no laws regulating things hanging from your belt unless they somehow impeded your ability to ride to motorcycle. There are also no laws about having to wear certain boots, jeans, or anything else; except that you are required to wear some type of eye protection. Like I said though, laws vary so you may want to find a police officer or look in a law book to verify what your laws are.

try going to your search engine and typing in, Motorcycle Law- Pa. or go to Lexis Nexis and see if you can find it. I know Tn. doesn't have anything like that. I typed in TCA-Traffic Law-Motorcycles to get my info.

There is no law in Indiana that says you can't wear something on your belt. You can't carry anything that would interfere with your riding though. If your riding through Indiana, you can check www.indiana.gov (http://www.indiana.gov) for further law info. The laws you speak of sound kind of petty to me...

Just a thought.....May it have something to do with "load securement " regulations ? I know here in Alberta things have really tightened up with these rules moving to include private vehicles not just comercial vehicles.

Gotta check into Florida's law on that one.

Well... I have never heard of any such law and I have riden in Pa. many times over the last several years. I work in Bodymore Murderland and here we just don't want you to ride with your gun hanging from your belt  ... But, I guess in "small (minded) town" Pa. you really have to watch out for those dangerous hanging cell phones. That or the guy had nothing else to do that day. Or... maybe he was worried that the rider was in possession with the intent to call while riding? Or... I surmise that it could be a mite bit dangersome ifin' somebody misstook ya for a phonebooth... Ya juss never know, doo ya?
