For any of you who know Darkfire aka Fred Hawkins, he has had a very serious motorcycle accident and will be out of commision for several months.
About two weeks ago Fred was on the track Here in Albuquerque with his Triumph Daytona and was stuffed in a corner. his bike flipped end over end and landed ontop of him. Currently he is in stable condition with a broken pelvis, bruised lungs and a ruptured bladder as well as a broken thumb.
Luckily, he will rehab and hopefully fully recover but he has a long road ahead. He will off his feet for at least 8 to 12 weeks. This will be a hardship for Fred being a firefighter but all his friends and family are here to support him. Please put out your prayers and blessings and wish him a speedy recovery.
Thanks

First I want to thank all of you who have e-mailed, called, and written and especially those who have come by the hospital and nursing home to visit. It has meant a lot to me during my recovery time. I cannot express to all of you my gratitude and thanks, but know that I appreciate each everyone of you and thanks again for your support. For those of you who have asked what has happened since the accident, her is a little recap up to now:
On September 10th I crashed on my motorcycle and was taken by ambulance (they almost flew me) to UNM trauma center in Albq. I was admitted as a Category 1 trauma with the following injuries:
Pelvis broken in half
4 Rib Fractures right side.
Pulmonary contusion
Pheumo thorax right side
Lacerated Bladder
Fx left thumb
And my CRET/ red blood level drooped to 19 (from 40)
I spent 4 nights in the trauma intensive care unit until the CRET, Pheumo thorax and pulmonary contusion stabilized. I was then transferred to the intermediate care unit for 4 more days, and then transferred to the regular floor .
At that point I was stable and awaiting my broken pelvis and wrist to heal. I was slated for follow-up x-rays on Monday October 3rd where the doctors will make a final determination as to whether I need surgery to fix my pelvis or if it is continuing to heal ok on its own.
As for my recovery I am being told that I am100% non weight Bering for 8 weeks (6 more to go L) in bed, then 6 more weeks of rehab to learn to walk again. UNM moved me to an “Advanced nursing facility” (ie nursing home) on November 27th for the next 6 weeks until I can bear weight on my hips/legs again.
The nursing home was HELL!!! I was 30 years younger then the youngest person there. Lets just say they had no idea what to do with me. The good news is I only spent a week there before I convinced the doctors to let me go home and finish my healing. SO I’m back at home to finish my recovery!!!!!! The doctors said that I am doing very good on my recovery and that if I had assistance at home I could continue my recovery there. My folks have taken some vacation time and are going to assist me here at the house.
As for my condition, my bladder laceration has healed itself and the Foley was finally removed Monday (thank God). My left thumb x-ray shows it is healing great and surgery to fix it is unnecessary. They applied a full cast to my thumb for stability and in about three weeks I should get it removed. My hips are stable now and again surgery is no longer an option. I have about 4 more weeks before I can start weight bearing again and then I will start rehab. With a little luck, hard work, and a lot of painkillers I should be able to return to light duty in late November and back to full duty by mid December (at least that is my plan.

Glad to hear that you're continuing to recover.
Hang in there, you'll be back up on two wheels before you know it.
