The Magellan SporTrak Pro is a feature-rich, fun, and easy-to-use GPS receiver designed for the serious navigator. Its rugged, waterproof, and ergonomic design is perfect for the outdoorsperson needing a compact but powerful navigator.

Included in SporTrak Pro is a 9 MB North American basemap of highways, major roads, parks, waterways, marine navaids, buoys, lighthouses, and more. The SporTrak Pro runs on two AA batteries for up to 14 hours. It's housed in rubber-armored, impact-resistant plastic that's waterproof and also floats.

Will this unit: - give you route choices like scenic, avoid superhighways, etc?
- give you alternate routes from your current location, including "back" roads?

Also, would it be easy to read if mounted on a handlebar?

It wont give you route choices and that detailed stuff. Thats a navigation system, and this is definitely not a navigation system.

You know, I dunno exactly. Thats a good question. It seems like I remember reading something about that, but I can't be for sure. I know that you can mark waypoints in the map function and it will show you how to get back 'as the crow flies', but not a direct route (via roads, etc). I'll let you know if I am able to find out.

Let me find out if it does I take it could use it as a back up a the Helicopter. I have one I can mark way point on but can't add lat and long.
