I live in Cape May County
Back on after 25 years.
I just retired and took the motor cycle safety course about a month ago.
I’ve been riding and practicing, since on a neighbor kids 750 shadow
I’m very close to buying a 1300R.
Do you know any dealers in NJ that rent them by the hour?
Salesmen seem reluctant, or maybe I'm misreading them.
One area that Harley seems ahead of Honda is all their rentals.
Thanks for any come backs

With the prices today of the 2003,2004 leftover 1800's, do yourself a favor and start off with the 1800. I went from a 750 right up to the 1800 3 years ago. It was a simple transition. These bikes (vtx's) have a lousy resale value, and I gaurantee you will be losing money on the 1300 that you will most definately be trading in for an 1800 in the near future(and you will).....
I live in Manahawkin, if you know how to ride, you can try mine. The 1800's are also fuel injected which is a nice plus, and they use metal on some of the parts that the 1300's utilize plastic. For the money, it's a no brainer.... However that's one mans opinion. In either case, you will enjoy the VTX no matter which you purchase. Either way, ride safe...... And I hope to see you on the road somewhere in Jersey.

I do not know of any dealerships in New Jersey that rent VTX's. That of course doesn't mean that some dealership in NJ doesn't rent them. I would call around just to make sure.
Many happy miles to you, whatever you decide to ride. Just ride. 8)

Are you buying/paying in full?
If so, I would do the E-bay thing.
I got the wife a 2003 1300R with 1,600 miles on it in the summer from a Bridgeton cop, on E-bay, for $6500.
You can find the same kind of dollars for 1800's.
I bought my 2003 1800R new for $11,200.
I figured I save $3,000 to $4,000 on the wife's bike over buying a brand new one and basically her bike was brand new. ( perfect condition, 1,600 miles, and came with pipew, hypercharger, jet kit.

Try getting a loan through your bank first. The dealership will kill you with an 18% APR.

Try Capital One. They have an online application too.

I also live in Cape May County. If you do a search on the Honda site for dealers around the area... you can see what dealears do rides before you buy... I know the one in Summer Point did...but I'm not sure if they still do.
Good Luck

do yourself a favor and start off with the 1800.
Strange as it may seem, some people actually prefer the 1300.

I bought my bike in Somers point. ( Fairway cycles )
I know for a fact, they DO NOT test ride any, I mean any motorcycles at all.
My finance rate at dealer was 6.9% with a $1000.00 cash back for anything you wanted.
Acessories or a down payment.

The two dealerships nearest me (Mt. Holly Powersports and East Coast Honda) have test rides during their open-house, usually in April/May.
6.9% and $1000.00 good towards the purchase or accessories is not a bad deal at all.

Well after test riding both the 1300 and the 1800 I decided on the 1800
First things first, I did not find this bike hard to ride at low speed or parking lot speed.
So we can lay that rumor to rest
I officially degree this is a great riding easy to manuver bike at least for a 6'1" 270 pound old man.
Secondly for those interested A&C Extreme Sports in Bridgeton allows test rides. as does Deptford Honda and the above mentioned Cherry Hill Honda.
My final decision was all about the money and I was 10 seconds away from buying a new 1300 when he said you might be happier on an 1800 and I have a left over 2004 Retro spec 3 in Blackcherry I can let you have for the same money.
list 15499 sale 10450 I'm adding a light bar and windscreen plus bags and V&H Big Shots will post pics when I pick it up on Tues./Wed.

GOOD CHOICE! Although the 1300 is a great bike I think the 1800 more suits your stature. GOOD LUCK with it. I'm sure you won't regret it. Just take it a little easy on it until you get used to it. With all the power this bike has it can get away from you in a heartbeat.

I agree. Bought my 1800 july of last year. It can get away fast. It's a torqemaster. I love it. Be carefult though, throttle response is almost immediate. Overall, I have friends that have the 1300, and I think my 1800 has better overall quality
