I am thinking about a ride around America via the coast roads and into Canada. With a few excursions into Mexico. Starting and ending at Amarillo Texas. Not sure how long it will take. Only sure of the east and West route. Has any one done this ?

Sounds like an awesome trip. I plan on doing such a trip one of these days when I retire or near there. Each time I ride a really long trip, I learn a little bit more on how to plan a little better. I know less gear is better, that is why most my gear doubles as both water tight and insulated. I now travel only with water proof riding gear, that way I never have to stop to put it on...

I haven't done the complete lap of America, yet, but have done about 1/4 of it (some places a couple times).
I ran Brownsville, TX, to El Paso, TX, with a few jumps over the border, a number of years ago, and it was an interesting ride. We had originally run Oklahoma City to Houston then Houston to Browsville by bus before picking up some bikes for the trip to El Paso. It was a summer project for a friend, and we were returning a couple rental bikes to a dealer in Phoenix (we only went to El Paso).
I rented a bike in Baton Rouge, LA, last December and rode first over to Mobile before turning around and coming back through New Orleans to Houston. That was a great ride, though I got wet twice.
I've also done Amarillo to Las Vegas and Amarillo to Phoenix before, and both were good rides. I also did San Diego to Santa Barbara just over a year ago, which was a beautiful ride.
I'm guessing just about everyone who reads this topic will have the same feelings ... envy.
One thing that I've learned is to plan for weather and conditions in each location. Whenever you travel more than a few hundred miles in this nation things seem to change so much, so you have to really be careful about what you plan.
Are you doing this all in one trip or breaking up into several smaller bites? My guess is that one big trip would take several weeks to really do it right. I'd want a month or two if I were going to try it.
Are you planning on Alaska as part of that trip?
I'm planning this summer to do Los Angeles to Eureka, CA., and maybe go as far as northern Oregon along the coast. Post your potential times for different locations and I'm sure you'll find lots of other riders who will share at least a part of the ride with you.

i have done Alabama to upstate NY several times . Also done Alabama to Colorado once about 4 years ago. Many years ago did the entire route around the USA. Took me three weeks. Not a lot of site seeing along the way. Would love to do it again in the X but yime doesn't permit it now. Geuss I will have to wait till I retire

I have this one all laid out in TripMaker. I have utilized the roads to keep the trip as close to the edge of America as possible. No excursion into Canada because I refuse to spend a penny in a socialist country(but that is just me).
I will make this trip soon. Just have to take the time off to do it.
I also have a trip laid out to skirt the outermost edges of Texas. Will probably do this trip first.
