What kind of temperatures can I expect taking I 80 throw Nevada the first week of August? Would this be unwise? Looks like mostly moutains on the map and would not be to hot. Thank you for your input
There are a couple higher passes on I-80 between Wendover and Battle Mountain but not what I would call mountains. Generally, that time of year, the temps get up in the upper 90's to low 100's between noonish and 4~5PM in the high desert of northern NV. The advantage you have in coming across I-80 is that it is the northernmost route across NV and not quite as warm as other trans-state routes. Bear in mind that you will also encounter plenty of abrupt crosswinds as you cross the desert regions that can get pretty intense at times. You will encounter worse winds in SD and WY though. Another consideration is there are adequate exits to allow for fuel/break stops at roughly 75~100 mile intervals. Cell coverage is spotty for emergency services so make regular fuel stops even if not close to reserve and remember to stay hydrated.
