Those Coral Springs papers go straight from my lawn to the trash, but a friend of mine reads them. He said Coral Springs police were being equipped with sound pressure meters and were starting to enforce the noise ordinance. Look out if you have loud pipes like my sideburners!

Uh-oh, I ride to work almost everyday. Gotta make sure I don't crack 'em on University, huh?
Get ready to throttle down, I was gassing up this morning at the Chevron and three motor cops from Plantation were running traffic from the parking lot. While one was writing up a cage the other two walked over and checked out the X. We were BSing and they said that they heard me before they saw me and to be forwarned that they were getting pressure to start enforcing the noise ordinance and they hear that it is getting to be a widespread situation with a lot of departments. I got the feeling that they didn't necessarily agree with it but may be forced to enforce it.
Thanks Hoss,
Knew Plantation couldn't wait to get into the fray if Coral Springs was gearing up.

My stock pipes keep sounding better all the time.
Especially after my hearing test last week...........I need hearing aids in both ears.
Listen to years of doing the wrong thing.

I think all cities have a noise ordinance. Some are for "quiet times" like from 10pm - 7am to keep parties quiet and us dirt bag bikers from waking folks up. Some ordinances cover 24/7 and state that noise can't be above a certain db level.
Best thing I have found to do is find a bike cop in the area and talk to him / her. Most of them ride off duty bikes and are willing to share knowledge thay have to keep fellow bikers out of trouble.

I found the Coral Springs ordinance: http://www.coralsprings.org/cityServices/agendas/backup-11.18.03/2d1DS/index.html. It's pretty long but has a chart near the end that spells out what areas and how loud you can be. As with everything though it will be up to the officer's discretion. I go 10 mph in 3rd to keep the noise down in my neighborhood so hopefully they won't bitch to the fuzz.

I was in Delray Beach last Sunday and they have signs all over the place stating that noise ordinance is in effect and will be enforced. Some municipalities have enforcement as a higher priority than others. I run modified stock pipes so it really isn't an issue for me. If your pipes sound loud to you, they probably sound loud to a cop as well. I don't know if a noise violation is a primary reason for getting a ticket. But if you get pulled over for any other violation (speeding ?) and you have loud pipes, your probably gonna leave that situation with two tickets instead onf one.
