As you all know we had an exellent turnout last year for  Skinny and kerry's  memorial ride, My brother (Jeremy) and I would like to make it an annual event :D But we'd like to hear from all of you how you would feel about the ride  We also talked about it being a fund raising Event. We would like to keep the date the same Sat. July 22nd. Also Start at Doyles.

1. What would we call the ride?

2. Was it to long/short last year?

3. Not enough/to many stops?

4. Should we have patches made up?

5. Who/what should we raise the money for?

6. T-shirts?

We do have some offers

Bobby Rockets would donate the bar and resturant for the ending place.
they have room for 500 people inside and enough room outside for about 2500 bikes.

A band also would donate their time as well.

We know people have different ways of greaving but we would like to hear from all of you. You all were like a family to our Dad and Kerry, We think the same of a GREAT bunch of Guys and Gals. So on that note all opinions are welcome and want to hear them :D

Thanks,

My only thought would be to start at Doyles. That was their hangout and where we all got together.

I'm in! And to answer your questions:

1. Keep it the Skinny and Kerry Memorial Ride.

2. & 3. Last year the ride was perfect in my opinion. The stops were all at the right time and the distance was just right.

4. & 7. Have T-shirts made. You can only sew on so many patches, but you can never have too many shirts.

5. You guys know better what was near and dear to your Dad and Kerry. Raise money for a cause that they believed in and supported.

6. The ride should start at either Doyle's or Chris's USA (Home of the three legged chicken).

This is only my view on it. No matter what you guys come up with I'm sure it will be fine.

Brian

PS: Nick I will bring the swingarm for you to the party in March.

Not enough room here to say yes enough, and I agree with Brien here.

T-shirts are the way. Might want to see if starting at Doyles is good with Jeanne, but I like the idea.

How about calling it (Skinny and Kerrys ride) just an idea.

I might have to make a road trip from Washington and put the X in the back of my truck.... If I'm not on deployment then I will try my best to make it.... You guys and gals be safe and ride them X's hard.

Later
David

P.S. If you do get either patches or T- shirts made let me know so I can get one.

I've thought about this much since the last event. The memorial ride was one tough SOB, both emotionally, and physically.

A group that large was almost impossible to pull off, and we got VERY VERY lucky at times, as well.

I think a 2nd ride should have the route mapped and posted, and more comfortable-sized groups make their own way- thus keeping the group size smaller, and more managable in traffic. Let people take it at their own pace, and land at the destination when they choose. Some people like pounding on the miles, some do not. I would want to spend the majority of the day riding, and a minimum amount hanging around.

The max for me would be a dozen or so. That many bikes can ride and not impede traffic in a pack, with those that get the red light etc., can easily catch back up.

The memorial ride was a very special event for me, but I personally do not want to ever relive anything that happenned that day, the good OR bad.

Whether or not there is a ride scheduled, on the anniversary of their being taken from us, I plan on watching the memorial ride DVD, watch some of the various pics and clips I've got of the two of them, and spend the ENTIRE day putting miles on the bike. Do like maybe a 4-500 mile day seeing sights and going places I haven't been to before, ending the day with a good meal and some BS'ing.

I want to reiterate Nick- we got VERY VERY lucky last year during the ride. There were numerous times that something could have went a little different resulting in something very bad. I learned alot about the dynamics of a big ride, and pretty much am done with them.
There were several times I personally did not feel safe, and would not do it again, unless busted into small, managable groups.

Just my $.02

Riley, We have talked about this and I agree 100% :) I was talking to Jeanne and told her I wanted to get away from having blockers and this is the only way  I'm glad you mentioned this as I have so many things goin threw the melon (short term memory) and forget to put on the board. My thought was 12-15 bikes, Seems like 12 is the number :!: P.S. Thanx for the .02

Good point Riley.

Just a thought. Maybe we could all start at Doyles, release small groups at different times (like every 10 minutes), and finish at the park where we went to. Then BBQ, drink or whatever.

Mark_1bx, Good thinkin about Doyles, The park I dont think will work as we are trying to keep the cost to a min. As I wrote at top Bobby Rockets will said we could end there. Located in Lyons, WI. Hwy 36 & Hospital Rd.

Have you considered doing a poker run instead of just a group ride ... you could then donate the proceeds to a worthwhile charity or even start a memorial fund in their names for some philanthropic purpose

Reaper

Do you think as many bikes as last year would be there? My guess would be not near as many. There were alot of people that saw it on the news, and just came for the ride. I would think are group would be smaller, maybe im wrong, but in any case I agree the ride last year had many high times were bad could have happend, and I do like the smaller 6-12 rider groups.

Sorry Reaper, I couldn't resist.

Just for that I'm going to send myself home for three days this weekend. In fact, I'm going to send myself up north where it's colder and there's more snow and make myself stay outside and ride a snowmobile the whole time to suffer in the winter weather.

Hey everyone, been a while since I had a bike, but I'm back with 2001 C ready to ride again. I remember riding with Riley before WIVO existed! Back in the day of the Highland House rides. Keep in informed. I know work in Elkhorn and still live in Algonquin so I definitely qualify as WIVO.

Hey Jon. Where ya been? Wow, it's been awhile since the highland house days. I couldn't even tell ya what's on that corner now.

I was down there for the H House last weekend. DoubleX or whatever name he uses was there- he didn't have his bike even back then!

Tim and I met some of the IL folks down there- we were still pretty messed up from partying the night before. We told our women-folk we were going for breakfast.

Never told them what state tho! lol

10 hours later we finally made it back home!

Real fun day... Lining up a whole raft of X's side by side at a light and doin our best motocross-style take off when the light turned green

I may just have to go for a scoot later.

Welcome back!

What a memory Riley! That ride was a blast. I had to sell my 02 R/S back in 04 and just got a 02 C the end of fall 05. Looking forward to riding again. Hopefully I can get a hypercharger installed before my first ride this year. Does Tim still have access to the cow magnets?

Yep, but he's layin low these days. Long story.

I can stop and grab ya a couple if ya want- no problemo.

One condition- we have to get together for the delivery- Postage prolly costs as much as the magnets! (Get me out of the house, too, lol). We can hook up at Doyles, or the missus and I? are going to the bike expo down at the Stpehens center on Sat the 11th.

Anyone else? They are the bomb for green light triggers- cheap too. I can grab a boxfull.
