I'm up for it depending on my work schedule as usual. I can't wait to ride. Foul weather and the broken foot has put a real damper on it for me, but I should be ready to go in a couple of weeks.

this is spring/summer type of trip, we need more daylight (racer is old and works a 40 hr. week job)

Southern Illinois would be a good ride . We could plan on making a stop in Metropolis and visit the Fort at the Massac State Park.It would be a good stop for stretching our legs. then up 146 to Cave In Rock and take the ferry accross the river into Kentucky and work our way back towards Henderson.

O K, buick, e'rr butt, e'rrr buett, son, you got it goin on, Get with Hoovey and see what you guys can come up with. We really need a "west" ride. See some of that country. Date and time to be discussed , to accomidate as many daylight hours, and people as possible.

You go guys, I'll foller....Hoovey slodown, I kain't see

Y'all ought to see my new lites, they is purdy, even in dalitye.

edit: Probably have the southern Indiana/Ky group go west on I-64, to a meeting place over there with the Sullivan/Robinson/Franklin etc group.
Think about that when bringin details together.

Let's see what works for everyone before we have a bunch call in sick for me  (skip out of work and go ride day would suck for me if I don't get to call in sick)

Thanks for the thought weekly, now you rate a smidge behind Matchstick  (BLACK BIKES RULE)

we need to know what in the heck is down there before we go (this is where C.G. kicks in)
So keep the input coming in so we all can come to a conclusion :?:

the only thing about Cairo (K-ROW) I know is that you can see three states at one time, who knows, maybe ole Huck Fin will pop up

Oh I forgot, it will have to be in June due to I am molding 17-18 yr olds into "mini me's" (if they need any help in being smart ace's) World look out :!: one parent called and said that I discourage and depress her son (he farts in the class everyday and will bring tears to your eyes) Now who would incourage this type of activity?

I am not totally useless, I can be a bad example

BEHIND MATCHSTICK :!: THAT SHOULD PUT ME AHEAD OF HIM. COME ON WARM WEATHER :!:

Timmer
01-29-2006, 09:24 PM
Sumpin to think about is that Cairo is a long way for many of us. 300 miles one way from Louisville. Even farther for thems whats up near Indy. Might want to consider making this an overnight swaree... Start one afternoon..... overnight and end by noon on Sunday???.... Might be too big a risk for a party to accidently break out on Saturday night....

01-29-2006, 11:18 PM
BEHIND MATCHSTICK :!: THAT SHOULD PUT ME AHEAD OF HIM. COME ON WARM WEATHER :!:

The reason to put you behind matchstick is that when I look into the mirror I don't c's u! (paw learned me well)

anyway just get out and lead the way :lol hell at this point we should let paw (RACER 04) lead that way we can do an IRON BUTT TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :!:

By the way this is part of the master plan

Yeah, could be an over nighter, TTT, have buett look into that as an additional option, It's his ride. Hoovey might be a good one too to check on this.

I'm just the , fact is, I dunno what I am.

Termite
01-30-2006, 08:17 AM
Overnighter would work for me too. Cairo is also where the Mississippi and Ohio rivers come together. You can stand at one spot and have a foot in the Mississippi and the other foot in the Ohio. In my case I can have the same foot in both rivers.

Just north of Cairo is the Trail of Tears park and it has some beautiful overlooks of the Mississippi. I've always thought it would be interesting to take the "Great River Road" north from there up towards St. Louis and back to Indy. That'd be a pretty long ride but still fun to do sometime.

not yet, I was hoping Buett would carry the ball and set it up to fit his schedule. He never gets to ride with us. But if he passes it off, I'll ask Hoovey to assist me in setting up the "Kay row" spring ride.

That is of course Buett doesn't want to handle it.

Just trying to be considerate.

More to follow....I'm sure!

OPPS...Check the Indiana board, seems like there's a ride scheduled. Don't want no conflict.

02-10-2006, 09:20 PM
consider it passed off, I will not be going.

To all:

Have mapped this route tentatively using the HWY 150 exit on I64 as a starting point and traveling the scenic River Route along old hwy 66 to 41 south of Evansville, then continuing south across the Ohio a couple of times through NW Kentucky and through Shawnee Illinois through Southern Ill on back roads to Cairo..... We're looking at 8 hours ridingtime on the bikes to get there and about 4 hours back assuming we use the interstates. Or, could reverse the ride and have a few hours on the first day to travel around down there. Would be happy to assist in planning this thing but will not do it without consult. We rode part of this route last fall on the ride that started in Brown County IN.... Beautiful roads and scenery. I have several mapping programs and can also send the route to anyone who has a Garmin GPS capable of routing. This stuff along with Google Earth can help us pinpoint restraunts and lodging.

02-15-2006, 07:49 PM
O K Timmer, you got the consult, I will assist, heehee I never get to lead any way.I will suggest we make this a two day tour, overnighter. That way we can ease on over there and see whats to be seen, then rest, enjoy each others company. And ease on back Sunday, taking a different route. I'm up for it..........

We need a date, err, a weekend to do this, I don't date Timmers!

Needs to be warm, or at least warm during the day. Let me know what town we might end up in, and I'll find a inexpensive motel . Need one that allows campfires as we are all fire bugs. And dogs too as Lizzie will be along.

If ya want Timmer email me Racer04@insightbb.com, and I'll give ya my phone # and we can get details worked out....call after 4 PM.

WAKE UP Hoovey, J Chumley, Mark, C G /Nick, Ron, Matt/Karen, Dave
Matchstick, MyRon/Leah, Harley Joe/Patti, Termite, and all youse others, Longnite, etc, etc, etc, Chicken wing(?)...Alls welcomeU 2 Weedly

We have enough lead time, we can make this a great weekend run and meet lotta new people, as well as see some beautiful country over to our west. Hell, I'm excited already!!!!!! We all know other states are reading our thread.

Weedly, I know you'll read this so if ya would kind one, get those up north fired up and in the mood (so to speak). We'll discuss meeting points and times later.

And yes Timmer, I have Gina, the GPS and am capable of loading your routes, Gina Garmin is her name.

WHOOPEE, WE'LL RIDE AGAIN IN THE SPRING
Dave, Matt/Karen, Ron and I have been out already in 2006.

Send me an email with your phone number. I'll place a conference call to you and Hoovey at 7:30 PM Eastern on Monday so that we can rough out a plan....

Since I was available.... yesterday took a quick ride down there to have a look see. It's really out there.... I think that Old Shawneetown may have died with the fur trade....at one point pushed the gps and quiried nearest fuel..... 26 miles.... Garden of the Gods is interesting also maybe Cave in Rock State Park... They have a lodge there that supposedly serves meals but it was closed. Ferry was running but I didn't ride it. I think we need to plan on staying in Marion or somewhere near I 57, unless bikes run on nuke fuel and everyone packs meals...

Also everyone should make sure they have a current proof of insurance with them and maybe a bond card? I'm running about 61 or 62 on a 2 lane when a big blacked out SUV pulls up on my bumper.... speed up a little to get the guy off my behind and he stays literally about 1 car lenth off my bumper get up to about 68 or 69 ... he's still there Town upcoming so I decide to slow down and pull off...just then he hits the lights... no light bar everything inside the blacked out SUV.... Do you know how fast you were going..... Yes sir I do but I was trying to put some distance between your car and mine since you were riding my bumper.... "I pulled up close to read your license" I'm thinking "buy some glasses but don't say it." I'm also thinking "am I gonna drive all the way back here to tell this story to some county judge who is this guy's brother-in-law?" Shoot... got a new proof of insurance... they send them every 6 months for 5 cars and I don't always remember to distribute them to all the cars.... "This is expired" ugh.... but no speeding ticket.... Will fax the county attorney's office the proof of insurance when I get home and they will waive the fine... Get the impression that they recognize strangers down there. Not sure that it's a very good place to party if you're a from out of town.

Now how do you feel? you have met one of many  they have mini vans, camaros,Mustangs, trucks, the list is endless, they like to work in groups so after you see one going north the one setting south will be waiting and the one going north will go a few miles up and turn around and catch up to you just to see if you will speed up after you saw him, you will need to watch out unless you take the easy way out and don't go to far over the speed limit

there is food, you need to know where to look for it at, a winger told me about a little place in golconda, He said "two thumbs up"and don't forget about Patties settlement (I recomend this one) at the land between the lakes, and there is the "iron Kettle" there (haven't ate there) and you can rent cabins at the land between the lakes and it is not far away from marion KY.

Here the tentative idea so that those who would like to go can plan accordingly. The dates are April 8-9 with rain dates of April 15-16. For those near Louisville we will prolly meet at the Dairy Queen north of I64 at hwy 150 and ride the interstate to the Hwy 41 exit at Evansville. We will meet a second group (from Illinois?)at that exit and proceed south on 41. If the Cave In Rock Ferry is running we will follow 60 down through Sturgis KY to Marion KY and cross the river on the ferry to Cave In Rock... If the ferry is not running (high water) we will follow the Ohio River Scenic Byway, hwy 62, to route 1 then south to Cave In Rock... We could stop at the Garden of the Gods depending on time and the wishes of the group. We will then continue south along the river on 146 to Goloconda and then to stay the night in either Metropolis or in Paducah. Racer is working on a group rate for us with a couple of motels.

Day 2- Anyone who needs to get home can jump on the interstate and head back north... The proposed route back is north along the river on the KY side back up to 60 north and Evansville or from South of Evansville east on old 66 along the river to hwy 37... Then to wherever home is....

I will have a couple of maps printed with alternate routs with me on Sunday. We'lll prolly ask for a head count next week for making plans with the hotel and lunch.... Lets hope for decent weather...

Hey everybody how about we let Racer lead from the DQ to the Corydon exit. I really think he won't get lost on that part of the route.

On a serious note, we won't be able to make the 8th & 9th date, :( maybe it will rain. We got a nephew getting married that weekend, D@#$ relatives
We will try and hook up with the group as they return on Sunday.

We'll be there on the rain dates. :rain1:
There is always someone with a conflicting schedule, I guess it's my turn this time.

I love throwed rolls!! Been to Lamberts several times since all my extended family was from Charleston. You'll know where that is but not many others will.

Just south of Charleston is the correctional facility, the road leading to the main gate is named after my favorite Uncle, Pedro Simmons.
