I want to thank WAH and PepsX for all the info on the iWay 500c GPS unit. I ordered one from getfeetwet.com yesterday afternoon. There was a chance I had to go out of town so I had it shipped overnight. I got it today and so far I am very impressed with it. I also made the deadline for the $100 rebate so that was good too.
I plan on a several week cycle trip this summer and this unit will really come in handy. Looking forward to putting it through its paces.

BTW,
Dan (PepsX) also makes a great bike stand for those that don't know.
Thanks again,
Ron

You are welcome Greyboat, sounds like you've been "playing" with it already. Ours is coming in handy this winter during the rides for the Patriot Guard Rider's military funerals looking for the staging area's they give us to meet at. Going on a mission Thursday this week.

your welcome Greyboat but, i got to pass the thanks on to lamont, he helped me alot when i got mine.

I find more stuff this thing can do all the time. I just found out it can display an amp meter too for all you voltage hogs :D

How the heck does it do that :?: (I didn't see that in me manual)

Peps, I followed your suggestion but only found a voltage display not an amp one. I didn't know I could make it show MPH on the normal display. But thanks to what you wrote i figured out how to have that displayed to instead of having to look under the trip window to see mph.

Good find anyways, Peps. I find more and more things useful on that unit each time I use it.

Yep - I found it too. It displays your batt voltage. I've been running the speed indicator onscreen - it fixes the vtx spedo error :)

Yep, Lamont and Pepsx had a big influence on my deciding to purchase the 500c. :D Haven't put it to use yet but will in due time.

Not having read the instructions thoroughly yet, is there any problem hooking up the power to the unit? Is any additional equipment or electrical component needed? :?

Is there any way to use the space reserved for music for some other purpose? (not sure what I have in mind at this point but not planning to do the music thing). :?

Does anyone have any suggestions about mounting the unit? I have marked as a favorite some posts I read before buying the GPS. I recall reading that what comes with the 500 is not adequate for mounting and I may need to purchase a RAM steel mounting ball/bracket/etc. :?

One other question, I want to get a head phone or ear phone to use so I can hear the verbal directions with my helmet on. Any recommendations???

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas. I shall appreciate your help. I am eager to begin learning how to use my new toy/tool in preparation for a cross county trip in July and August, but not planning to do Sturgis (at least not while there are 500K people and motorcyclists there. 8) :D

The iway did an excellent job leading the PGR bikers from Tulsa to the military funeral yesterday...it was right on in getting us there! They put us in the lead since we had it on the bike. I hope the guys were paying attention because we left a little earlier than the others from the cemetary! It started out in the 40s but by the time we came home it was 70! It was pretty amazing to see the group ride in from Tulsa as they were riding like we all had ridden together as a group for years and only a few of us have ridden together maybe once! Others mentioned that too when we got there so I know i wasn't imagining it watching them in the mirrors. :D

There's a battery lead that comes with it (save the cig lighter version for use in your car). Get a 12 vdc terminal block from Advance Auto. Mount under seat with velcro or double-sided tape. Tap into the power block per Bare's web site (http://bareasschoppers.com/acclead/). Run wire under tank to handlebars using tywraps (to keep off top of engine). Then dangle the headphone jack from the left side cover so you can plug in your headset.

I'm using the mount that came with it for the handlebars and it works fine. There may be a better one out there but I'd start with that one so you know exactly what you might need to migrate to if you find that necessary. The one in the kit puts mine right smack in the middle of the bars if you like it there (looks symmetric).

I just bought the 350c for my truck and my wife and I can tell you after using the 500c for this long the 350c seems very small. I love the 500. :D

Yeah ... the 500c is rather big *but* it is very functional. I cannot see having one with a smaller screen b/c you'd have to stop to use the darn thing. Plus - and this is a huge plus - the 500c's touchscreen works fine with my big thick fat-fingered Tourmaster winter gloves! (http://www.motoemporium.com/tourmaster/wintereliteglove.jpg)

x-beast he's talking about the metal mount where the ez-clip is. The ez clip actually makes the iway bounce alot going down the road. The metal ball mount really makes it much sturdier. Ask pepsX he saw the difference too.

LaMont I read somewhere that 350 is NOT waterproof like the 500 and yes the screen is small but maybe they went that way and pulled the 700 and 800 as the 500 seems pretty big to some and the 700 and 800 were going to be even bigger. But you would have thought they'd make the 350 waterproof too. Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to remember reading that someplace.

This is where the metal mount is to replace the Ezy Mount. http://www.goldwinggadgets.com/GL1800_iWay_mounts.htm Its still easy and quick to get off, just have to unscrew the piece with the little handle that releases the ball. The website shows the ezy mount pic on the left and the metal ball base on the right.

I just came across a website that still has pics up of the 700 and 800 but no description. Its hard to tell if the screens were bigger or the same as the 500

Okay found a description on another site, 7 inch screen for the 700

The 800c is a 10.4 inch screen

Lamond, WAH, X-beast, all you wonderful folks (and I do not mean to non acknowledge anyone). Thanks, Thanks, Thanks for those fabulous responses. Shoot man, I just might be able to do this thing myself now.

I am unable to think of adequate words to describe how GREAT this board is. There are so many knowledgable, generous and helpful members it is frankly overwhelming. :D

Please just know that I appreciate you. Thank you. :D :D :D
