ACI customs does very nice work and they are reasonable too.
Be prepared to get your ear talked off though...he'll likely take you back into the shop and show off his work.
Happy to do just simple single colors or whatever you want. Heck of a good guy:

Just out of curiousity. What does a custom paint job for a fuel tank cost? I would imagine it's a matter of how complex it is, but is this a few hundred dollars? Thousand? more?

I was told that to paint a tank back to stock was about $200 + paint. Paint is fairly expensive so I am guessing $300-400 for painting a tank back to say...Illusion Blue.
I would imagine that any type of custom work from there would add to the cost...i.e. taping, multiple colors, artwork, yada yada yada.

I was a painter for many years in a collision center.. Some of the good auto guys don't want to waste their time when they have insurance work in the yard so it always helps to ask around for someone on the side for the best deal, of course you'd have to know he or she knows what they are doing for a cheap. Cheap jobs usually mean cheap prep or cheap materials and any one of those or a combo of both will drive you crazy.
Custom work I'd say look at 1,500 - 1,800 to start and move on from there... I don't think $3,000 would be out of the question for some of these wild custom jobs depending on the time and material involved (airbrush & such). The place rich posted looks like a nice shop as well as Jim Monroe.. people who specialize in bikes would be the best

To give you an idea of how exspensive paint can be,to paint my bike the original color was about $300 for the paint. That's just the paint no clear,no primer,no prep,no anything. I'm glad I can do it myself.
Like Eddy said you get what you pay for when it comes to painting cheap is ussually cheap. After painting for 30 years I won't do cheap because I was taught to do it the right way when I first started painting.

I hear that Duck. I seem to recall seeing the illusion blue paint being something like $1200-1400 a quart. No idea how much coverage that is on a bike though.
