Xcelr8,

Did you know this guy? I read it Sunday.

Unfortunatly, of all the very nice people I meet at Holiday Park, I only know a few names. I was talking to a 60ish guy last week who was telling me about his Jack Russell Terrier.
I am at that intersection 3-4 times a week, and this incident has really depressed me.

I have a 1 yr old Jack Russell. Not a dog for the weak of heart. I wish I had 1/10 of her energy.

Pretty rough............Group of 10 bikes waiting for the light at 27 to change. Light goes green, 1st bike starts, tractor trailer runs the light hits the bike, cuts the rider in half, bike explodes in a ball of flames..........truck never stops.

Did they get the truck?

As of Monday, no. I think a group of riders are going to put up a memorial for the victim at Holiday Park. I'll keep everyone posted when I learn more.

Hindsight is always perfect, but I make a point to wait a few seconds after the light turns green to venture out of an intersection. I can't believe the trucker just kept going, hopefully he is caught and spends a good portion of his life behind bars. Of course, if a few bikers catch him first that might not be necessary...

I printed the Sun-Sentinel article to PDF, it's on my webserver if you want to see it:

It's an old machine so please be kind (and patient).

SoFlaJim Thanks for the post . I think it would be better if a group of bikers caught him ... Just my 2 cents

He did wait.......there was a F-150 alongside that got the bumper tore off. There already was a vehicle stopped at the light when the tractor trailer just laid on the airhorn and blasted thru the red light.

It doesn't matter how careful we are.........you need eyes in your a$$ to drive/ride in So Florida.

xcelr8 is right. I was there that night and it was a stomach wrenching experience. I had riden from Holiday Park to Lake Placid up US27 and had seen a truck driver who was thrown from his truck after it flipped on the exit ramp of I-75. Then I ride back down to Holiday Park at night and I see this. It moved me so much that I didn't ride again until last weekend.
