To get us back a little earlier...
We are starting out at 1am Sunday morning.

Weather is looking better everyday.

No V-rod this time so we should make good time.
He is looking at the Honda ST1300 so he can run farther than us on a tank.

Well, that's one way to do Bike Week. :) Good luck guys :!:

We (a friend and I) are planning a 1500/24 IB Gold ride April 8th (but no partying half way through  ).

Post how it went, again. I sure will. Thanks.

Hey todd where are you guy's riding? A friend and myself were planning one on that very weekend. Let me know, maybe we can run it together 8)

We are running through TX/NM the weekend of the 8th (going the other way from y'all) - barring weather. I'd invite y'all, and others (for small group/s), but the guy who invited me, later talked to a real Iron Butter (11,000+/11) who told him to travel alone - no way to travel with me, or anyone else - nothing personal against me ('cept my farts stink ) - the IBer and I have never met. No biggie - that's his thing.

Anyway, now I'm doing good to hang in there with my friend by myself. He agreed to travel with me as two independant riders on the same route (whatever that means). I'm his emergency help (911 cell phoner - biker hit deer and ran off the road, etc) - he can't get over that. Other than that, he planned it out very, very well - I like it - it meets all my criteria, too - and then some. He put a lot of thought into it. I'm happy.

What are y'all riding on (Cs or Rs)? Cs aren't very long winded. You will have to manage your fuel well - travel only on freeways and make very quick stops in order to make it in time. Figure it all out before hand. My friend got a Valk Interstate tank (7 gal.) for his Valk (regular, something or other, model). I am in the process of putting an aux. tank on my C. He planned a few ~175 mile legs. I can't keep up with him anymore with the stock C tank. It's something I've talked about for a long while (I'm into long x-country rides on back roads for my vacations), so I'll get use out of it from now on. Check out my avatar - see the red emergency gas can on back? It'll be a real one shortly. We've (g/f and I) have run out a few too many times before (like during the IB SS 1000).

What are your travel guidelines? I've previously been jumped for this, but I insist on agreeing on all the rules, weeks in advance. Decide how you will handle every situation that might come up. Include how long you will spend at each gas stop - including emergency bathroom breaks! The big one is: "all for one', or "one for all" - stay together or leave someone behind (out of gas, break down, flat tire, unplanned rest breaks, quiters, sloooooow people - arrrrgh, etc) . Decide before you leave, agree to STICK TO IT - NO MATTER WHAT- no hard feelings (once on the road - do whatever, you can change it to be be nicer, if you want...), and remain friends afterwards. Don't agree to decdide "when the time comes". Take my word for it, its a fight on the side of the road just waiting to happen - I've seen it happen too many times. This is fun - keep it that way.

Finally ('cause I'm getting tired of typing), you do know you must oficially complete the 1000/24 ride first in order to get credit for this ride 1500/24?

Keep me posted. I'd like to hear your war stories. Good luck. I'll try to take some pics like others on this BB have (I like them) - but I forget everytime.

Again, GOOD LUCK and have a blast! I will.

Ok here are my guidelines. I always work out the details far in advance. I say, I'm going on by myself whether you want to or not, unless it's breakdown or emergency, I would probably not leave a friend.

I am making very quick fuel /P stops, so I can keep the meter turning, I am not waiting for food purchases or snacks, or other crap, so buy this stuff in advance, and pack it on my tank bag.

I try not to speed, but rather go for the steady state of cruising.

I am mostly traveling with one person, maybe 2, but I have to know how they ride in advance. I state what I plan on doing and the roads I plan on taking. I study maps well in adavance. I make map errors at times, but try to recover without too much down time.

I am riding an "S" model, so does the friend I usually ride with. We are equipped fairly evenly.

I try to have fun, wherever I ride. I like to have an intinerary, especially a stopping point for over-nighters. During the day, I ride both interstates and back roads, and do not like riding with people who will "only do backroads," because sometimes backroads are worse than interstates.

I should be in your neck of the woods in June. I need to know some must ride roads in NM and Arizona. Going to the Coloradical!

take care! 8)

We made it.
Dang it was cold!
Still not able to quickly answer if it was worth it.
If not for the destination... Daytona Bike Week,
we would have turned around at the state line!

We were frozen!

Heres the temps atlong the way.
We were so glad to see the sun come up! 8)
