Venarius,
I know a ton of riders in the Woooostah area. Most are out every weekend with many doing midweek hooky rides as well. I make it out that way a least a dozen times a season or more. Give a shout when you get your ride out on the road.

I have ridden with the group at www.nevtxriders.com (http://www.nevtxriders.com) for three years and love 'em. Safe, well organized rides, etc.
Try a few different groups and pick and choose.
www.nevtxriders.com (http://www.nevtxriders.com) has a calendar of rides on their page and membership is free.
I think there is one this Saturday starting in Boxboro and heading west. you can write to vrrmm@nevtxriders.com for more details if you want.

One more thing:
All riders are welcome. If you have friends who don't ride VTX's, feel free to invite them, too.

I've ridden with the Manomet Mystery Riders, the local Star Chapter, and Women on Wheels.
I've also done a lot of poker runs, etc. With over 10,000 miles per season under my belt, it's safe to say I've ridden with more than one group.
Of them all, www.nevtxriders.com (http://www.nevtxriders.com) is still my favorite bunch. They have the safest rides, the most varied destinations, and they never make a newcomer feel left out. We all know each other pretty well, but we make it a point to avoide the "private" or "inside" jokes that might make a newcomer feel uncomfortable.
Did you want more detail than that, Hondo?

Sure. Share your thoughts about Women on Wheels. I would like to think there are a fair number of women riders that frequent these forums. That is one group that while I have heard of it I do not know much about it and really cant offer any advice to those who might ask. Perhaps you can.

Unfortunately I don't think there are many women that come on these forums. There is a small percentage of women riders anyhow and of that group, an even smaller percentage who turn a wrench, which is what usually attracts someone to a board like this.
This particular board is very good, but most are pretty liberally sprinkled with the kinds of images that women don't necessarily want to look at, and that also turns them off.
I rode with Women on Wheels a few times. There was not a real local chapter for me, as I am on the south shore, but that's not a real big deal. Basically I didn't pursue it because they just were not the group for me. Nothing bad, just not for me.
Manomet is a good group, I like them, we've had a lot of fun. Personal preference here, I like long rides, let me leave the house at daybreak and come home after sunset. The Manomet group meets noon on Sundays in Plymouth and ride till about dinner time. Just not enough time on the bike for me. Ditto for poker runs.
The Star Riders are good when you can catch them, they're just not that active. One ride a month means that you don't have any options.
That's why I like www.nevtxriders.com (http://www.nevtxriders.com) so much. They have so many rides I can skip a third of them and still get in a lot of riding.
I do lots of long distance rides, too, and would rather spend my time doing that than doing the commute to work. There are four riders where I work who ride in every day. I rode to Quebec City last year and had a ball. 1500 miles in four days. (One day off the bike, walking around in Quebec.) This year I'm doing Nova Scotia in August, not sure where I'll go for Memorial Day, though the Wall is a possibility.
Anyhow, a long winded answer, sorry about thta...I got to reminiscing~!

I hook up at least once a year with riders from a shadow forum, (hondashadow.net ) and may do their ECR in Roanoke, VA.
I also ride sometimes although not really that often with the New England Riders. They are a self proclaimed Un-club that has no dues, no officers, just rides. Everyone pitches in. Dozens of folks plan and organize rides and there are also a ton of pick up rides. There are long rides and shorter ones to accomodate those with other demands on their time. One of their larger events is happening on Saturday, the annual RIMBY ride in the Pioneer Valley of western Mass. You can find a link to their forum here.. http://www.newenglandriders.org/ Be advised that all brands and types are represented. There are also several from the massvtxriders group that frequent the NER.
Beyond that most of my miles are done with 3-4 other bikers or less. I have found that group rides of this size to be more flexible when it comes to direction, dining, stops, etc.
Obviously the good thing about frequenting an organized group is that it exposes you to new ideas, new roads, and destinations that you otherwise might not explore. New friends doesn't hurt either.
